Am I the only person who can't help spelling it Hallowe'en because that's how JKR spelled it in the first Harry Potter book?

I get tempted because it gets spelled that way in some of my Irish learning materials.

 

I always read Hallowe'en as "hallowayen"

It's a seriously interesting book no matter what your religion is, or isn't. Its title, and the titles of many chapters, are deliberately very provocative to spark the ire of prudish people, and it does have theatrical, overblown language sometimes, but it's honestly great and can get very thought-provoking at times

 

Also think "wow, for once people who live in a world which boasts an abundance of food are distributing that food to all who ask for it while asking for nothing in return!"

 

I think "please don't tp my house" counts as asking for something. Trick or treat is a mostly empty phrase... but there's always that question, what if.

My knowledge of Halloween is heavily affected by the riots we had in town ten years back, which were not this fancy, and just involved thousands of drunk people throwing bricks through shop windows and looting. Because #college town.
