Yeah, I agree. And it can be hard to tell if it's supernatural or not when you start reading a section, so it makes you tense.
http://nothotbutspicy.com/para/cl/ Vivid, atmospheric, and genuinely spooky. I actually found these through Luka's blog ages back when he linked to "Echoes." STAY IN YOUR TREE, DOC. IT'S GOT A PEOPLE FACE.
Ooh, do you have any other recs from that site? Going through their archives at random turned up a lot of decent stories mixed with a lot of dreck. If by "nazi ghost stories" you mean 50 Foot Ant's stories of the 2/19th, I liked them at first but later thought they got pretty repetitive and strained suspension of disbelief.
I mostly really love the crazy cold war bunker in a mountain one I think the author forced a lot of the weird family mythology stuff, but it was fascinating. I would have loved it even more if there was like separate set up stories for it? I dunno but tandy just scared the shit out of me, because I used to live in a super old house and I'd read those in the winter, and just yeesh OH OH MAN VOX AND KING BEAU I gotta find a link Edit: here's link : x Edit 2: this is literally my favoritest vaguely creepy story out there. I always wanted to illustrate it
ah, yeah, I read the cold war bunker one first actually, that one was pretty good. looking forward to your link!
Guess who just binge read a bunch of fantastic creepy stories. OuO Well, okay, "just" as in yesterday when I was sick and today because I neeeeeeded to finish the SAR ones. Loved Dionaea House, recced it to the moirail. She had a dream about it made noises at me, but also enjoyed it. In any scary story I encounter, I hope to be Loreen Mathers. I also liked the first Goatman story that Jesse linked, because I love anything that incorporates smells as part of the story. Tell me about the smells!! TELL ME!! I must know specifically what kind of bad or wrong it is. Pleasssse. I don't have much to share. I seem to binge read creepypastas and not keep links. :P I remember to faves from a binge a few years back, one was literally cordyceps (before I had encountered it out of a documentary) and the other was just some rambling messages about vaguely spooky goings on, and at the end you were instructed to read the first word of every paragraph. It said Don't Look Behind You. Normally that's pretty eyerolly to me, but this one got me good. A classic, though, is Ted's Caving Page. http://www.angelfire.com/trek/caver/ (I cannot seem to make links nice on mobile?) Mysterious stuff, claustrophobic caves, and ominous bad smells. Love it. One that creeps me the fuck out in a bad way is Seedeater/Rag Face. I don't know why that one in particular, I guess some people react to Slenderman that way? *now very tempted to read through that stuff again, to see if has aged well, because what is common sense*
http://emcarroll.com/ this too, especially if you haven't read "His Face All Red" whoops also @The Frood Abides , I just edited my original post to add the link : D
One of my favorite free horror game makers, SnowOwl, made a game based on the first part of this creepypasta, Bedtime. The game (It Moves) is really good and actually uses lines from the original pasta, but the full story in all three parts is O.O
BLESS YOU I'm on the second bit and am really interested. (My dad used to cave as a college student and he still has on old halogen lamp caving helmet or whatever those old helmet lights used to run on. It lives on the ledge above our fireplace.
holy shite that caving story is FANTASTIC. the dead girlfriend on FB one also legitimately creeped me the fuck out. edit: for ambience while reading the cave story, i used three mynoise.net generators - Distant Thunder, Prehistory, and Cave Chime - all set to animate randomly.
Seeing Candle Cove mentioned, I'd be remiss to not suggest some of the author's other things. The Stillwood King Curious Little Thing The Fulcrum The Song and Dance Man (turns out not written by Straub, but originally collected on his site, I just missed the accrediting, and still a good 'un) Springboy Lemon Blossom Girl Aaand probably my favourite of his, though longer and larger and a webcomic, would be his Broodhollow comic, which draws from some of his writing to create a charming and funny but reasonably spooky strip. That link will take you to the first page of the first book, also titled "Curious Little Thing" but being far more expansive than (and otherwise distinct from) the short piece of the same name I linked above.
i clicked this thread and it automatically took me to the second page. the first thing i wondered was 'im sure everyones heard it by now but i wonder if anyone mentioned the goatman creepypasta yet.' @jacktrash VERY FIRST FUCKIN POST IN THE THREAD you rendered me not just late but fuckin obsolete, i salute you :D
One antipasta platter coming up. *cracks knuckles* man door hand hook car door [also there is a dramatic reading if you are into that] "Does anyone know a good plumber? I did one of those stupid rituals and now my shower is leaking. And there’s a faceless guy in my kitchen." The Boy Who Loved to Read The Viper
