the "whistlers" story was really good, thanks for linking to it @Moss! I don't usually expect that quality of writing from creepypasta :D

    strictly quadrilateral alive, alive, alive!

I didn't really like the whistlers story. It wasn't written in a way that made sense to me - I felt like the narrator was focusing on the wrong things, and the dialogue seemed off. The whistlers themselves seemed a rather minor part of the story, and I'm sure that was meant to have a certain kind of impact. However, I'm scared by pretty much everything up to and including my own reflection in the mirror, and I was not scared at all by this story.

1/10 would read in the dead of night in the middle of the woods without fear

The same game maker I mentioned did another game a couple years before also based on a scary story, but sadly didn't include a link to the original. (It's just mentioned in the readme as "a story posted on a certain imageboard"). It's called Skinwalker. For those who don't want to play I can paraphrase the story if you guys want. There's a lot of writing in it so it'd be pretty easy.

ETA: You know what, there's enough writing I can transcribe it and just add in details of the parts that aren't entirely narrated.

I actually managed to forget about the multiple endings! Thank ye gods for nested spoilers. Heads up, this is not a 100% faithful transcription. There were a couple times I accidentally hit a key twice so I only got a glance at the actual dialog, for instance. And a few things were phrased in a hard-to-parse way with it written out in script form so I edited it a little to make it easier to follow. In game there's a few dialog boxes between so it's easier. I TOTALLY recommend actually playing the game, the sounds and visuals for the scares are really good... but if you can't or don't want to for whatever reason, here it is.

If I mention I'm talking to someone it's always their dialog first. Also there's one scene I changed from second to first person because everything else was in first. Joe has dialog in quotes, narration without.

It's only a 20 minute game but there's a LOT of words and I hit the length limit. So I'm going to split it into everything before the first choice and everything after.

The following story really happened. I saw it with my own eyes. Maybe it didn't happen as I saw it, but more on that later. We were all going out camping. Me, and three friends from university. Let me introduce my friends...

[shot of Joe's apartment, zooms in on a blond boy sitting on the couch] This is Darren. I wouldn't say that he's the leader of our group of friends... or actually, I would. He's the one that always gets us all out of the house and into the action. He's the one that hits on that cute girl by the bar, he's the first one to jump from the roof into the swimming pool. According to himself he was even more impulsive when he was a kid. I can only imagine his childhood and how often he must have broken his bones, scraped his knees, and hit his head. Still, if it weren't for Darren we wouldn't have half the fun we do.

[still zoomed, camera pans to a girl with dark red-brown hair sitting on a chair facing Darren from across the coffee table] This is Celeste. We've known each other since we were children. We met when she moved into the house next door when I was seven. My mom told me to go show her around the neighborhood and after that we were inseparable for a few years. She's a nice girl, although her health isn't the best. She has some kind of heart problem, I forget the name. It forced her to be away from school for extended periods of time during her childhood, so until we started university I was her only friend. Still, she never complained and has always been a positive, happy girl.

[pans to a light red/brown-haired boy standing and facing the camera] Next is me. I'm Joe. AS the name implies, I'm pretty normal. I don't have any overwhelmingly bad qualities, but on the other hand I don't have any overwhelmingly good ones either. I live in this apartment a short walk from our university. This is where we four friends usually gather before going out.

[pans to a black boy with black hair laying on the bed, hands under his head] This guy here, looking all relaxed on my bed, is Michael. He's my neighbour, living in the apartment next door. One day when I had Celeste over he just barged in. "Hey man, your place looks pretty nice. Mind if I join you for dinner?" he said. As you can imagine, he's pretty pushy. I don't think he realizes it, himself. He came over several times after that day. After that we somehow became friends.

[fades to black, then a shot of a clearing in the woods surrounded by darkness. The tree in the middle, and the stumps around it, look like they have human faces on their trunks]

So one day Darren came up with the idea that we should go camping. He said his family had a cabin a little bit into the forest. So camping we went. It could be fun, right? Of course me, Michael, and Celeste the idea of staying in a cabin. It's a camping trip, we have to sleep in the wilderness. So Darren told us about the woods near the cabin. I don't remember much about the trip to the cabin. We joked around, took a few breaks, normal stuff. We drove up to the cabin and left the car there. We took a short break inside and set out into the wilderness. We went pretty far in, I can't say how far in distance exactly, but it took several hours to get to where we set up camp. The first day we just screwed around, nothing abnormal happened. But then...

[fade to back, then to the campsite. Darren is asleep next to the tent. Investigating the cooking pot tells you water is needed to cook. The firepit is empty, examining it tells you wood is needed if you want a fire. Celeste and Michael stand a little way off. Talking with them starts a conversation. Starting with Celeste, as she's closer]

[Celeste] "Did you sleep well last night?"
[talking to her again, she asks] "Would you mind getting some water? I'll cook something up for us if you do." [dialoge repeats if you talk to her again after this point.]

[Talking to Michael] "Mornin' there. Or should I say good afternoon? Fix us some wood for a fire, will ya?"
[talking to him again] "Guess we actually need to do something today or we'll be starving."

[Walking toward the path past Michael continues the narration] I set out to gather wood for a new fire and water to cook with. [brief cutscene of Joe gathering deadfall, then changes to Joe at the lake.]

[Taking a couple steps forward an eerie metalic sound starts. It sounds like air going through a metal pipe]
[Joe] "What is that sound? It doesn't sound like something you'd hear in a forest..."
[He continues to the edge of the lake and fills a bucket with water, then turns back and returns to the campsite. The metal droning continues as he approaches, but stops once he reaches it.] "The sound stopped..."

[talking to Michael] My head hurts... [no extra dialog for talking to him again; message just repeats]

[talking to Celeste] We sure had a blast yesterday, didn't we? [dialog also repeats]

[Darren is still asleep next to the tent]

[Joe examines the fire pit] "I should have enough wood to make the fire last a while tonight. [he sets up the fire but doesn't light it yet]

[He pours water into the pot when he examines it. Talking to Celeste again] "Alright, let's cook something up, shall we?" [she goes over to the fire and it fades to black]

[It cuts to evening, with the four of them sitting around the fire. A fog has settled in.]

[Talking to Darren, who's finally awake] "What the hell is up with this fog? Every time I've been here before there hasn't ever been any fog."

[Next, Michael] "It's time to go to sleep soon. We're all out of booze. Guess we have to go back to town tomorrow. I'm not looking forward to that 4 hour trek. Maybe we should have gone so deep in, haha."

[Finally, Celeste] "It's really chilly outside for being the middle of summer. [talking to her again, the metallic droning from before comes back] "Hey... anyone else hear that sound?"
[Darren] "Yeah... now that you mention it. What is that?"
    [Michael] "Sounds like something metally."
[Darren] "Metally? Haha! Is that even a word? Are you stupid?"
[Michael] "Shut up, asshole. It's a word if I say so."

[the noise continues for a few seconds after they stop talking, then cuts off]
[Celeste] "It stopped... maybe it was some kind of machine?"
[Michael] "Who the hell would go out hours from the nearest civilization in the middle of the night and start revving up some kind of weird machine?"
[Darren] "Who gives a shit. It's probably someone using a chainsaw or something. Let's go to sleep. I'm tired."

[Darren and Michael file into the tent, leaving Joe and Celeste by the fire. Talking to her] "I'm sure that was no chainsaw. I wonder what it was." [She enters the tent, fade to black]

Sleep soon overtook everyone... but something woke me up a few hours later. In my half-awake state, I stumbled outside the tent. [As Joe exits the tent there's a pattering sound from every direction. The fire's down to embers] "Darren? Michael? Celeste? Is that one of you?" [aside] "The mist is even thicker than before... I can't see much."

[Examing the tent, Joe insists on investigating the sound. As he walks away from the faint light from the dying fire the metalic noise picks up again, louder in certain areas. Following it leads to a dark, featureless figure standing along the trail, facing deeper into the woods. Joe calls out.] "M-Michael? Is that you?"
[the figure doesn't respond, doesn't even turn.] "Say something, w-will you? Who are you?"
[The figure turns and Joe jumps back as it starts walking towards. A breathy whisper starts up alongside the metal noise, but it's not making distinct words.] "Whoa! Stop right there, I have a knife!"
[The figure keeps approaching. The animation is different from the standard walk animation- a single step carries it pretty far and it stops for just a second before making the next one, giving it a lurching impression without the associated upper body movement. Joe backs away a little more, but the whispers stop] "Shit!"

[He runs the long away around back to camp, breaking line of sight with the figure, and returns to the tent.] "Hey! Wake up! There's something outside the tent!"
    [Celeste] "Uhhh.... what?"
[Darren] "Ugh... I'm sure there is. Lots of squirrels and shit. Go back to sleep."
[Joe] "Hey, is Michael in here?"
[Michael] "Mmnn... Yeah I'm here. Why wouldn't I be?"
[Joe] "I dunno... the thing outside looked like you."
[Darren] "It was probably some animal. I don't think we have to worry about a fox or whatever. Take it easy and go back to sleep."
[Joe] "Well... alright then. Maybe it was just some animal." [aside] (But those sounds?)

A few minutes later... [laughter is heard]
[Darren] "Ok drop it, whoever that is. I want to sleep already."
    [Michael] "It wasn't me..."
    [Joe] "Me neither..."
[Celeste] "That didn't sound like any of our voices."
[Darren] "Well shit. Now I'm never going to be able to sleep."
[Celeste] "S-should we go outside and look?"
[Michael] "What if it's some crazy psycho with an axe?"
[Darren] "All the more reason to check it out. It's not like the tent is some kind of impenetrable fortress."
[Celeste] "Seriously if that was one of you guys tell me right now. This ain't funny anymore."

    [silence]

    [Celste] "..."
[Michael] "Ok, everyone get out together and check it out. I ain't going alone."

[They pile out of the tent. The embers are still glowing a little and a dead animal is in a pool of blood at the edge of the light. The metal sound is back as well]
[Michael] "What the heck is that!?"
[Celeste] "Someone was definitely here! Shit! Shit! Shit! Shit!"
[Darren] "C-calm down Celeste. We're four against one here. It'll be fine."
[Michael, turns to Darren] "What if the dude got some kind of weapon with him? I mean he killed this critter, didn't he?"
[Celeste] "Michael is right! We gotta get the hell outta here!"
[Darren] "We can't just up and leave. It's the middle of the night. What about our stuff?"
[Celeste] "Screw our stuff! I'm not staying here another minute."
[Darren] "Fine, we'll leave. But at least bring the flashlight and some food and water. I think you're overreacting though. We haven't even seen anyone."
[Michael] "Still, someone or something lift this dead creature here. We can't exactly go back to sleeep with no worries."
[Darren] "I guess you're right... I'll go get the flashlight. Everyone bring some stuff you think we might need."

[Fade to black.] A couple minutes later... [Cuts back to everyone outside]
[Darren] "Alright, let's go." [They follow Joe back to where the shadow figure was seen and past. I went the long way around in case it was still there. The metal noise did get stronger at points but I didn't see it. On the transition all four are walking on a straight path together with Darren in front. The dialog was set to move on automatically so I don't know who said what and most of it is paraphrased because I didn't have time to write it down exactly as it appeared. There's a new noise added, kind of faintly, that sounds something like a monkey.)

"It's awfully dark" [or something to that effect]
"It could be worse. At least it's still summer." [Something about the fog; don't remember if it was in this dialog box or its own.]
"So we're going back to the cabin, right?"

[They keep walking until they're offscreen. The next screen is another straight path with trees on either side. There's another path to the right behind the trees, barely visible at the edge of the flashlight's glow. The shadow figure follows along that path, unseen.]

[Cut to the treeline with a perfectly black sky. It's perfectly quiet, not even animal noises from the earlier forest scenes] A while later it became obvious Darren had no idea where we were going. He was swearing and looking all around.
[Celeste] "We have been walking for awfully long now... Are you sure we're on the right path, Darren."
[Darren] "I've walked this path hundreds of times. We're on the right path."
[Michael] "I don't recognize anything from when we were walking to the camp though..."
[Darren] "I said we're on the right path!"

But as time went on, it became obvious that Darren had no idea where we were. Darren couldn't find the path. Maybe it was the fog, maybe the darkness, maybe something else. Either way, we were lost. I kept looking behind me. I was having that feeling where you think someone is watching or stalking you.

[Fades to black] I nearly tripped over Celeste when she fell.

[Dialog option to help Celeste up or not]

I took Celeste's hand and dragged her to her feet. It was getting even mistier. If not for the flashlight, I wouldn't have any idea who she was.

[Darren] "I recognize that tree! We're getting to the cabin!"

Again I had the feeling that something was watching me. My gut was screaming at me that something, somewhere, was wrong. [faint metal sound] I realized that sound from earlier was back. Softer, but still present. I started looking around, panicking. Did a head count- or more accurately, silhouette count. Me, Celeste still holding my hand. Darren, in the lead. Michael to the left. Who the heck was the guy beside Michael? My grip on Celeste's hand tightened and I quickened my pace. I thought about shouting out but was worried. If I did maybe the thing would turn around and jump Michael or something. I didn't know what to do. I ran my fingers along a knife I brought from camp. Then the cabin appeared, out of nowhere. The mist was starting to disintegrate around us. It was easier to make out who everyone was now. I looked at the thing next to Michael.

She looked just like Celeste. The thing whose hand I was holding leaned in front of me.

It wasn't Celeste. [Creepy face appears! It looks feminine and has hair like Celeste's, but the eyes are too wide and the mouth looks like a cross between a monkey and ventrilloquest's doll.] I should have ran or screamed, but my body was clenching up for no reason. The thing turned and walked into the mist. I caught up with the others as they entered the cabin, practically in tears. They couldn't find the car and were arguing about where we put it. I told them what I saw. Obviously they didn't believe me. Still, everyone hurried inside and locked the door.

    [screen still black, there's knocking.]
[The black fades to the cabin. Michael approaches the door. The metal sound has stopped, but there's a faint whispering.] "He followed us here!
[Darren] "He really wants something from us. He doesn't seem to have anything to break down the door with, though..."
    [more knocking]
[Celeste] "What the hell does he want with us!?"
    [knocking]
[Michael] "Hell if I know! Ask him!"
[knocking, pauses then picks up again and continues longer than before. Player gains control over Joe.]

    [Talking to Celeste]"..."
[Joe, in narration not dialog] She's breathing quite heavily...

[Talking to Darren] "We're safe here. It's cool, man."

[talking to Michael] "It's a sturdy door. It'll be alright, won't it?"

[Only place to go is deeper into the cabin. Once Joe is at the doorway of the next room the knocking stops.]
    [Celeste] "Did he go away?"

[once he reaches the next doorway everything goes dark with a small area of light around him.]
[Darren] "Shit! The bastard hit the breaker."
[Michael] "But he can't get in, right?"
[Celeste screams and runs past Joe, deeper into the cabin.]
[Michael follows at a slower pace] "Celeste!"
[Darren] "He is j-just trying to scare us. Take it easy.

[Regain control again. Talking to Michael:] "I'm starting to believe what you say you saw earlier..."
[The next room has a window. Examining it gives you a close-up. The treeline is visible, but there's nothing spooky there. Yet. At the bottom there's a doorway that transitions to the next part of the cabin, where Celeste went.

There's a hallway; the left leads to a kitchen with another window. This one shows a darker treeline but nothing spoo- augh shit! Not a full on jump-scare but a thing with a red face fades into view at the far edge of the trees] Who is that? [It runs backward, back into the darkness.

The room to the right of the hallway has a bedroom where Celeste is, curled up on the bed. Talking her, Joe observes she seems to have calmed down just a bit.

At the end of the hall is another bedroom Darren seems to have made his way to without my noticing. Talking to him just makes him insist we're safe and everything is fine.

Going back to the front Michael can be seen staring at the door in the dark. Going to talk with him] "You saw something looking like me?"
[Heading to the back of the cabin again, Joe stops just away from the window] Suddenly, a strong sense of nausea hit me. There was something in the air. I could feel the horror overtaking me again. [It gets much darker, Michael no longer visible in the dark. The light around Joe turns sickly green and flashes as the screen shakes. New noises, like an angry animal. It's staticky and sometimes seems to glitch into a "YUPYUPYUP"

Ran back to Michael, naturally, to find him lying on the floor breathing heavily. Talking to him] "I-I don't feel so good."

[Joe's light keeps changing color. Dialog repeats for Michael so I went to the back of the cabin again. Celeste is up and walking to the end of the hall, but it seems off. She drops onto her knees halfway there and covers her ears. Talking to her she just groans. In the bedroom at the end of the hall Darren has also fallen. Talking to him] "Can't... get... up..."

[Going to the room Celeste was in and examining the bed] I couldn't take it anymore, I had to lie down. [he climbs into the bed] I couldn't sleep and I wouldn't even if I could. I just wanted to rest. I waited for the world to stop spinning. I looked out a window. [cut to window. Treeline is invisible, just fades to black. There's one tree, with a... THING... behind it. All that's really visible is the face, which is thoroughly wrong.] There was someone in the tree. I stared back, not able to register what was going on. I quickly pulled the blinds down. Celeste came through the door. She looked pale and dishevelled. I dragged her to the bed and laid her down. She was gasping for air, as if something was suffocating her. Eventually her breathing became more regular. I asked where the others were. She shrugged.

[fades back to the cabin, with Celeste back on the bed and Joe in the room.] The room had stopped spinning a bit, but I felt far from good. [He walks to the doorway, fade to black] Suddenly, a voice could be heard from the locked door. What was worse, though, was that it was Celeste's voice.

[Celeste] "Let me in! Let me in! God! Let me in there!"

I immediately pulled my knife and placed it at the Celeste lying in the bed. Her eyes grew wide with shock and alarm, but they could have been faked.

[Celeste] "What are you doing? No! I'm the real one! The one out there, that's the imposter!"

I was in a kind of trance, unsure what to do and staring down at her. Maybe I would have stabbed her if the voice at the door hadn't changed into some low, deep, guttural voice. Then it became high-pitched, like a little girl's. I pulled my knife away. I snapped out of the trance. Now the nausea was returning. I got to the door and opened it. [Fades to the front of the cabin with Joe at the open front door.] There was nothing there but a trail of black liquid.

[Going forward gives dialog and a choice] Suddenly I got this feeling that it might not be the best idea to go outside.
[He closes the door. Once I got back to the back of the cabin he stops] Suddenly I got this sinking feeling in my stomach, like something was seriously out of place. I couldn't place the reason, but I would soon find out...

[A shadow is visible in the kitchen. Going to it, it turns out to be Michael laying in a pool of blood] Michael was lying on the floor, shot to death. How did I know he was shot? Just a feeling.

[Checking the bedroom at the end of the hall, Darren is in a similar state] Recently shot to death, Darren was lying on the floor. I could see the wounds from the shotgun.

[And finally, the bedroom on the right has... you guessed it!] Celeste was dead, lying in a pool of blood on the floor. It looked like she had been shot. Panic started flowing through every vein in my body.

[Cut to static] Suddenly I realized. Was there really someone outside? No. The shotgun. How tempting it had been. I had been looking for the right moment for a long time. The right moment for what, you ask? Well, the right moment to kill my friends, obviously. What else? I just had to do it. Always taking me for granted. Those bastards. Just because I'm nothing special. This should teach them not to mess with me. [face appears briefly in the static occasionally]

    [BAD END]
[cut to black] The thing was nowhere to be seen. Just as I was turning around I took a look at the roof. [static background. Faces appear briefly every few seconds] There it was. It was close to a corner, about to turn. It looked like an albino man with really long limbs. He had fingers instead of toes and all 20 of them were elongated. He was facing away from me. Suddenly the head swiveled 180 degrees and stared at me. I started choking up, as if suffocated. It was hard to breathe. The thing opened its mouth, slowly and deliberate. I thought it was going to devour me when its stongue snaked out. On the tip of the tongue was my face. Like a tumor. Eyes closed, lups upturned into some psycho smile. There's a legend somewhere that when you see a doppelganger you die. I thought of that legend but then the creature rounded the corner and it was gone.

I lost it and followed, vision hazy. My heartbeat suddenly seemed ear-splitting to me. I was stumbling, because my legs seemed unable to coordinate. Suddenly, I stumbled forward and toppled down. Once I lay there, face down in the grass. My body just seemed to shut down. I couldn't move. I couldn't even turn my head. There was something dripping on my back. My eyelids seemed heavy and started closing of their own accord. I saw white feet with long fingers for toes step into view.

[static background goes back to being just black] When my eyes opened Celeste was shaking me. She was on the brink of tears and her voice was cracking.

[Celeste] "Get up! Get up! That bastard was in your skin!"

[the metal sound and the gibbering start up again but barely audible] My head hurt. I was about to ask her what happened when she started pulling me backwards, toward the door. We toppled out and stumbled towards Darren's car, which was parked in a different location from what I remembered. I was glad to be alive. The mist had stopped completely. Celeste was downright crying now.

[Cut to a view from the backseat of a car, looking at the dash] She pushed me into the back seat. That's when I noticed. I was wearing different clothes from when I lost consciousness. Michael was there, huddled up and face buried in his knees. Some clothes- stained with blood- were beside him. They were mine. Darren immediately stepped on the pedal, but nothing happened. He swore and did it again. I noticed that Celeste was armed with a shotgun from the cabin.

I asked them what was going on.
[Darren] "The thing joined us. He looked like you. We got out of the house and found the car. We were halfway down the road. Then Michael started screaming."

I looked at Michael. He had a glazed-over look in his eyes.

[Darren] "The thing burst out of your clothes and jumped out of the car. Michael had the shotgun. He was firing out the window. We saw the thing run all the way back to the house. At the friggen speed of light."
[Joe] "It was in my skin?"
    [Darren] "Yeah."

I looked down at myself. I wondered if I had been possesed or if worse, the thing had cut off my skin and wore it as a coat. I shuddered at the thought of something crawling around in my skin. I asked Michael if he was alright.

[Michael] The thing talked to me.

I asked about what. He didn't respond. I realized he was sobbing. The car jolted into motion. Darren fist-pumped as the car started accelerating.

I turned back towards the cabin and saw the albino-thing standing on the roof of the house, watching us. I shuddered and turned back. Celeste screamed.

[White flash, the THING is visible in front] The thing was in front of the car, on the windshield. It opened its mouth and my tongue-face slithered out. Celeste fired the shotgon. [The windshield's broken] The glass shattered and it was thrown backwards. Darren shrieked and I saw blood coming from his face. Something pierced my face and I realized it was glass. The car skidded to as top.

[Fade to black] The car doors opened, without any discernable reason, and I fell out. The thing lay directly across from me, eyes closed as if it was sleeping. I wished I could close my eyes. Its mouth hug open and I saw myself again emerging.

[Image of... exactly that.] I didn't move or say anything, because I couldn't. My face looked at me and started to talk.

[Joe] "I love you. I love you. I love you. I want to be you..."

It repeated over and over again. It was coming close to me. I wondered if it was going to bite me to death. The thing's eyes shot open and I realized it was going to kiss me. I managed to regain some control and instinctively twisted back from it.

I guess that was what saved me.

There was a sound like an explosion and blood spouted from the thing. Celeste was standing over it. Her face and body were Bleeding and she had this spaced-out, psychopathic look in her eyes. She had just fired the shotgun. My face looked directly at me.

    [Joe] "I am you."

It whispered. She fired again and I saw my own face begin rotting to nothing more than a skeleton in front of me. The thing's head flowered open. That's the best word I can find to describe it. Its head kind of split and split again, peeling away. I saw faces- lots of them- all on the inside of its head. I think I saw Celeste and Michael's faces. They were whispering something unintelligible.

In the center- where the brain should be- there was a single, red, catlike eye that was rotating in its socket. [Image of the eye, but still.] It was producing the mechanical droning sound. Celeste fired one last time. The thing sort of withered away, becoming wrinkled and smaller and rotten- until it just disappeared. [fade to black]

Celeste dropped the shotgun. I started twitching and spasming as control of my body returned to me. Eventually I stood up. We got into the car silently. Darren was bleeding too, but no one said anything. We drove back to the city in silence.

We explained away the damaged car as being attacked by some crazy thieves. We had ourselves patched up. Michael was still in a shock-like state. I hear he was like that for a while. When I asked him what he thought of the incident later he denied it ever happened, with compelling conviction. His eyes looked dead and he had lost weight. I don't know if he forced himself not to remember or if he genuinely knows nothing of it. I know what I saw, but I can't remember the exact place.

It's been two months now. We still refrain from talking about it. If you were expecting some huge twist or something, you'd be disappointed. I still don't know what we met out there. I don't want to know, actually. I still have nightmares about my own face- shouting "I AM YOU."

One thing I do know, though. I am never going camping ever again.

    [END]
She shook her head and got to her feet. The ground was getting muddy.

Me, Celeste walking beside me.

    [knocking]
    [Joe] "Someone get the shotgun!"
    [Darren] "W-what?"
    [Joe] "Get the shotgun!"
[Darren] "Shit!" [runs to the dresser near the door and returns to his earlier position watching the door.]
[Joe] "Shoot! He'll kill us, shoot him!"
    [Darren] "Huh? What?"
    [Joe] "Shoot! Shoot now!"

[Darren shoots, leaving a hole in the door. Fade to black] Nobody said a word for what felt like an hour. Finally Michael slowly walked towards the door. And opened it. What they saw sent them all into shock. [flash of a bloody face]

It was Joe. The Joe inside the cabin started laughing. Silently at first. Then louder and louder until everyone had to cover their ears. That was when everyone realized they had made a mistake. The Joe outside the door... was the real Joe.

    [BAD END]

it's the almost-plausible ones that really get me. so much easier to suspend disbelief than the supernatural ones, at least while you're reading them.

afterwards, you start to spot the plot holes, but it was scary while it lasted. :D

Me, the biggest of all scaredy cats: Welp it's night time, I'm home alone, and I am afraid of literally everything, no matter how cheesy and unrealistic!
Me: Time to read the scary stories thread!

Stories like the one in the op just make me think "yes this is our friend we don't know what they are but they haven't tried to kill us and seem to only want hot dogs and to be out of the cold." I'm getting thoughts of a video game where the creepy, implacable demon that stalks you through the outskirts of the woods ends up just being one of your group by the time you're in the deep wood and the real shit is going down.

It's really weird how I can barely stand reading creepy pastas but if it's on nosleep I'm okay? Probably because there's no pictures on nosleep unless you click a link. which I do not.

the reason i like nosleep is that lightbulb button in the right sidebar. i mean ok yeah and some of the stories are amazing. but i hate hate hate reading light text on a dark background. it gives me eyestrain within 5 minutes.
