FUCK YEAH I LOVE RUNE FACTORY

I've played all of them but the wii ones but I definitely love 4 the most. 1 was brutal hard at points and didn't feel fully fleshed out in some ways, 2 was pretty interesting especially with taking over as the kid (which is when you get to pick your gender, but you're a kid and can't marry. You can have a cute pretend marriage though! And the twins apparently 1. are bi and 2. share EVERYTHING including you which I'm amazed they managed to slip in). 3 had super interesting worldbuilding with the human-monsters and monster-human hybrids, and AAAAAAAAA Raven. I made the mistake of romancing her first and she's so sad and really really needs someone to punch her abandonment issues in the face and I now can't romance anyone else without feeling WAY GUILTY because she needs all of the hugs forever. Also a lot of the other girls seem very one dimensional, 1.5 at best. Except for Sophia and the unicorn girl they're all their obsessions and little more. One's lazy and obsessed with sleep. One's a fish who's obsessed with baths and eating squid. One's an innkeeper-in-training with a small store on the side and is obsessed with money. One's always hungry and obsessed with food. One's obsessed with art and RAINBOWs. One's an angler obsessed with fishing and her brother. I've gotten three events in with some of them and still find them blander than plain oatmeal with a stuffy nose.

ah, it looks like Hurricanes are the bane of every HM game. But at least on Story of Seasons (idk if it's just because I'm on seedling mode) "typhoon" rolled in and I was still able to traverse the incredibly shit weather to take care of my animals and make sure they were fed/loved so they weren't pissed off at me the next day. Also a pleasant surprise is that NONE of my crops were destroyed, where in previous games a hurricane would totally wreck my shit, destroying fields and making my animals inaccessible.

For fun because this is the first time I could ever go outside during horrible weather, I went and talked to everyone in town. They mostly emphasized how crazy I am for going out in this weather and insisting I stay with them in their house until the storm passed.

Haha, typhoons are actually what they're called in RF4, I just misremembered. You can still go out and about during them, but your hard-tended crops WILL get buried under debris unless you douse them liberally with a certain item. There's actually a boss that appears in a certain area only during typhoons, which is a pain cause he has a very rare drop that's required for a couple high-level crafting things (and also you gotta ship one if you want to get 100% ship rate.)

I think the storms (by various names) in recent games have given you more ability to move around in them, usually with a HUGE stamina cost and/or a 'running against the wind.' I know crops can get wrecked in SoS, you must have lucked out! I think they got sick of everyone complaining since the fucking SNES version about the Mandatory Grumpy Animals. Though in the N64 version you could befriend the harvest sprites in a cave (you knew they were friends once they stopped speaking pig latin) and they would take care of your animals in return along with helping out with Karen's storyline. That was a cute way to get around it, and you could befriend them in spring of year 1 before you even encounter your first storm because the three of them share a friendship pool and they like the herb that grows literally right next to them in the cave.

I honestly much prefer the ability to actually go outside, though. The whole "wake up, check TV/remember it's a storm today/try to go outside, swear, remember I have animals that will take a hit/I forgot to bring in from the pasture, swear more, pray my crops are at least partially intact, go back to bed" cycle was the opposite of fun.

If nothing else, @IvyLB the belated letter could actually be in character too. :O Just because Junior is running around doing ALL THE THINGS doesn't mean that they're calm enough to write. (Oh goodness, wonder how worried family would be if consistent letters took a break out of the blue. DO I NEED TO HUNT DOWN THAT BOY YOU'VE BEEN MAKING EYES AT??)

I haven't played my game in a little while and need to pick it up soon so I can get the birth event. Farmgirl's running around like mad. I had to move the alpacas to their own damn barn, well away from everything else, because THEY KEEP FOLLOWING ME.. Like. Breaking out of the fence following me, give me a Minecraft gate the bastards can't bust through.

That's just creepy. Alpacas are already creepy (I don't know why. Probably the resemblance to llamas) but that is extra creepy.

They're just super friendly and want attention and affection, but gfdi stop following me. I expect sheep and the goat to follow me because they do already irl, but the Alpacas get in the way of milking if I left them near my cows. 8I make the sheep realistic too.

I have the same problem with my horse!

    Also good news:
    • I won the mushroom/honey field (neerner neener to Elise, etc) thanks to the power of hoarding/recommended shipping
    but then bad news
    • I blew through my money like I have a shopping addiction and bought all the recipies/clothing sets available.
    • I used up all my damn iron upgrading my tools so I can't make my sewing studio WHYYYYYYY
for someone who doesn't want to farm too many crops, I certainly am hoarding ALL THE FIELDS I can get my hands on! I underestimated how fun conquests are.

You can go outside during typhoons in original mode too!
I did and it was mildly aoying but I was so glad I could take care of epona and hanako goddammit I'd be so sad if they were mad at me T_T
the horse keeps seeing me trotting over and making the happy note emote
is2g it's so cute but hilariously stupid when I'm fishing. Like 'Yes horsie it's okay mama is here now get back to land idk if the pier is made to hold both of us'
I can't acually play rn because bro is using the 3ds but I might get another seven days of gameplay in today.
Also I've been calculating a bit and i need 75k of expendable cash for chicken shed + chicken and sewing studio rn ad I'm just staaaaaaaring at my money like 'how am i supposed to do that????'
idk should I get another cow first maybe? I'm honestly more looking forward to sheep but I haven't got cabin country in the trade depot yet

lmfao yeah the horse... fun part of that one tho is that it doesn't HAVE to come outdoors to be happy as a clam apparently? I just started leaving it in the barn and have had 0 side effects thus far, with the added bonus of no clusterfucks when I go and shear the sheep and the milk.

Money will come slowly at first.. usually that's why it's worth it to plant a TON of cheapest veggie crop just for selling, even if you don't bother fertilizing it. At this point in my game, I could never farm again and still get along fine cash-wise because of my pottery studio and constantly buying the gal out of soil. (chunks of it at first, then all of it every time she comes. them 4k pots are /nice/.) Diving and lucking out with gems and selling junk and fish were really huge helps early on too, but the animals definitely pay back their fee fast.

I'd say go ahead and get another cow. More milk to sell immediately and all that till things are unlocked or able to be built. I didn't need to start buying materials till... fairly recently actually, for the Big Big houses and specialty barns. Everything was splitting rocks and logs. IT GETS SO MUCH EASIER WHEN THE SAFARI ZONE OPENS, HAVE FAITH... and never ever ever ever breed an animal, it is such a waste of time, hooooooooly shit. It's not just "oh, this one is pregnant, I can't milk it" it's, "Oh, this animal is knocked up? TIME TO TOTALLY ISOLATE IT FROM SOCIETY FOR A VERY LONG TIME JUST OUT OF REACH, NO SHEARING ALLOWED EITHER."

Ahaha i lost against Elise the fuckin bitch was so smug I wanna whack her upside the head with my hatchet :'D
on the plus sides: will plant a lemon tree, bought a second cow (Flan) and am keeping a close eye on the other public fields.
Dunno yet if i want the wheat field idk what to do with it? maybe. I think I'll try for it when it becomes available.
The flower and spice ones I'm honestly not gonna try for at this point i dont have the seeds for them and I dont have the seedmaker yet bc holy shit that thing is expensive
Next on the agenda is chickens. Then seeds, Then sewing shed

where do i get silve ore from? the safari?

:D Keeping soybeans around are useful. They grow better in the fields and can be leveled a bit easier for future seedage.. and when you have the right maker sheds, that's flour and soy sauce and other cool things for cooking or selling. I keep some low level wheat going most of the year so I can keep wheat around and force my cooking skill higher by making a metric ass ton of bread occasionally.

But yes, Elise needs to be whacked upside the damned head, I love her design and I love the character concept but her personality makes me see spades.

Is it bad to imagine hate sex in the Harvest Moon-verse? Because I can see that being a thing. Very easily.

NOPE. I'm sure that if I was aware of quadrants during most of the games I've played I might have actually been a shipper.

There'd be a lot of [farmer] <3< typhoons though.
