Wait a minute... yeah! I remember this!

Man, I haven't read that in forever. I remember some really cool stuff being in it though. A lot of cool quest things, like the shadow-self island thing? yeah, that was awesome. And I love the idea of people being stuck jumping session to session, and assigned Classpects that don't quite fit them but that they have to learn to make work.

Edit: I think it also wasn't quite to 88 chapters the last time I read it (yeah, I read this a while ago) so maybe I'll bookmark it for something to start chewing through again when I can find the time.

Yep. I'm definitely on board about the whole Hope and denial thing. Both Hope and Rage play a lot on belief... and a lot of the time, having such a strong belief means denying what's actually happening. It seems like Rage switches this up by going between "no, it's alright, everything's fine. I'm secure in what I believe and it's great. I'm content" and "here's reality, motherfucker! tough, ain't it? the world sucks." while when you undermine a Hope player's beliefs, though they may be the most positive person if you're affirming them, they'll start lashing out big time because you're undermining their very self. (...I love thinking about how people can fuck up. Hope and Rage players, no offense intended here.)

I'm a Seer of Void which is really accurate because i use a lot of nonsense knowledge from empathy & intuition but i struggle with my own thoughts & mental illness
I also feel invisible/unable to communicate due to being trans and stuff & it feels like no one can really "see" or "hear" me through my body and voice so that is part of my quest
    yeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaahhhh

Alright, got a wall of text for you guys (@rorleuaisen and @Lissiel). [insert same disclaimer here about Classpects and my interpretations of them]

    Seer
knowing/understanding (especially through learning and gathering of information rather than intuitively); information/trivia/fact focused, and likes to record it, especially through writing which tends to be wordy; analysis; gives advice/explanation/guidance, especially that is sought out by others, while Sylphs do this more directly (meddling); likes strategy/planning; influences through guidance/direction/manipulation of others; tends towards being cryptic and vague/mysterious in advice or not giving all the information available to them.

    Rage
doubt; resignation; inhibition; limitation; domination? (not so convinced on this one) maybe more manipulation (also altered states of consciousness or perception?) and loss of control/agency (that is, being manipulated); impulses; stagnation; restriction (but this is individual-focused along with Hope as opposed to world-focused as with Doom/Life, also Rage/Hope is more mental/interpersonal while Doom/Life is more external/physical); shows up both as "I am doubting what I once believed in" and "I doubt there is anything but what I believe in;" emotions like anger, hate, fear, depression, mistrust, apathy, ignorance, etc. essentially restricting emotions. Though note that ignorance can be bliss, and maybe Rage is more emotions in general and it's the classes we've seen paired with Rage that makes it seem like negative or destructive emotions; subconscious influences (which isn't necessarily manipulation); intense focus (this seems counter to some of the others, but it's all about restriction, narrowing in on something and putting all your energy toward it); ...religion? (hard to tell how much of this is Rage and how much is that religion is a good way to show doubt and how much is just the Makaras) faith

    Void
secrecy/obfuscation; irrelevance/unimportance; uncertainty; being overlooked/forgotten (and so memory); submission to others; sleep/dreams/unconsciousness/subconscious; mystery; lies (especially when the teller wants to believe them too); "backstage" stuff (not spotlight, as with Light); potential, kind of? in a making something out of nothing way; note: the Ultimate Classpect Post talks about Void as destruction. I have my doubts about this. I feel like Doom is more the actual destruction and Void is the result of that destruction

    Seer of Rage
So, as said before, this person would be an excellent manipulator, and would be more intentional in that manipulation. They would understand the more negative side of emotions and loss of faith, maybe in part because of personal hardships. They'd be good at giving advice on how to deal with those negative emotions because they could see how emotions would affect outcomes. Their understanding of emotion wouldn't be a kind of intuitive empathetic thing so much as a learned skill. They could easily incite negative emotions in others, or calm them down, because they would know all the right buttons to push. They would have a plan (probably a secret one) they wanted to stick to and difficulty seeing how other paths might work, being very single minded about what their goal was and how they should get there. They might be prone to being better at Seeing while in an altered state of consciousness (while in a trance, dreaming, high or intoxicated, etc.). So maybe they start "getting" people more when they're drunk or really tired. Or maybe it just makes them see the negative in everyone more. In writing, they would love to focus on the emotional state of characters and their inner turmoil (angst all the way). They would probably doubt themself a lot and I wouldn't be surprised if they dealt with addiction.

In general, they'd be really good at understanding other people and why they were upset or what was holding them back, but kind of detached in actually relating to those emotions. They'd end up being more analytical than sympathetic, which might distance them from other people because it's a more sterile approach to things. They might deny their own negative emotions in favor of focusing on other people's and in doing so just let their own problems fester and grow.

    Seer of Void
They'd probably struggle primarily with meaninglessness/irrelevance/perceived uselessness to others. They might collect what would be perceived as useless trivia about things. Probably the type of person that everyone would confess their secrets to, they'd end up knowing all those little details about people that they don't like being brought into the light. They'd likely be really easily pushed around, kind of helping everyone else out with their secret problems on demand and not getting anything in return. Probably in part because they would know people's secrets, they'd be able to tell when someone was lying or trying to hide something, or conversely would be very bad at knowing when people were telling the truth, always detecting a little bit of a lie in what people said. I can see them being really good at remembering their dreams. Also great at lying and misdirecting by being vague about things, or only revealing parts of the larger whole. They may get sucked into their own lies because they'd rather believe them than the truth. When you got into what seems like an situation with no more options, they'd know what to do when everything else is lost/all obvious paths have failed.

A Seer of Void would seem a lot more passive (in the actual sense, not the class sense) than a Seer of Rage. And they'd also be much more of pushover. They'd be someone that everyone kind of overlooks but really depends on anyways. And ultimately they'd end up with so much blackmail material that if they decided to start using it against people they'd have a lot of influence over them.

    Mage
know intuitively; use aspect to understand other things; focussed conscious change, usually pretty targeted; somewhat detached from others?; tend to be hurt by or suffer from their aspect/loose something because of it; explores potential/knowledge and then enacts (? wrong word) things from it; a lot of observation before acting; I think (and I'm only just formulating this into words, so don't hold me to it) Mages might be more about speculation based on knowledge while Seers are analysis/collection of that knowledge, and with that, Seers end up with kind of this big library of information while Mages end up being drawn to new information or already immersed in it, or create it themself, resulting in them knowing that they know something, but not how they know that

    Heir
change/manipulate unintentionally/passively; motivate/inspire others; easily influenced/manipulated; end up being protected by others; empowered/helped by aspect; become/embody/emit/serve as a conduit for aspect; powerful, but with little self-direction for that power; oblivious to a certain extent, though not quite as much as most people assume

    Hope
belief; denial; possibility; hope (what a shocker) and positivity; faith; fantasy to an extent, and getting lost in it; stories/myths/heroes; adventure; obliviousness to things that don't fit into beliefs about the world; motivation in a kind of don't give up/get back up after being knocked down way (maybe more perseverance); seeing options or choices out of view of most because they're so improbable; security and happiness through strong beliefs and/or self-delusion; belief making things true; seems related to sexual attraction; isolation maybe?

    Mage of Hope
They would always be able to create or find one more thing to be hopeful about. They would be very assured in their beliefs, but suffer because of them. Maybe they're in an unaccepting environment or maybe their dreams are seen as too big to ever strive for/hope to accomplish. Have a definite tendency to get pulled into fantasy, speculation, and "what if"s. They would need to figure out how to actually act on their ideas, instead of just speculating about them. Probably loves fiction, especially fantasy and adventure books. They would have an innate sense of what hopes and dreams really drove people. Though they'd spend a lot of time just watching things happen and figuring them out, when they did try to change or create beliefs or motivation, they would be very good at it. And since they'd know when there still was hope in a tough situation versus when all hope was actually lost, they'd be that person who hangs out in the background doing their own thing until the group was in a very dire situation and then they'd be able to convince everyone that all hope was not lost/the night is darkest before the dawn, but the dawn always comes and motivate them to get back up and try one more time.

    Heir of Hope
Probably has a lot of other people who are attracted to them, and is rather oblivious to it. They would be this constant source of motivation for others. Any headcanons they had would easily rub off on other people. They would be protected from harsher realities by their belief, likely with a compelling fantasy world they could escape into. They'd be pretty heroic or at least fascinated by heroes and fantasize about being one. Just very inspired by heroes and people who stick to their beliefs in general. Maybe the kind of person who has their story told basically to inspire or motivate others, which could lead to them being isolated on a pedestal instead of treated like a real person. They would end up changing other people's dreams and beliefs, probably into something that made room for them and gave them a bit more safety. They may have a really huge effect on the people around them without being aware that they are doing so, being a kind of central player even though they'd mess around a lot. They'd be prone to being manipulated or misdirected, especially by people who misrepresent their beliefs and what they stand for.

@Valerie Sure! I'm about to go to dinner, but here's the stuff I did for swirlingflight. Just say what you want expanded upon/explained or what you disagree with and I'll work on it once I get back.

    Seer
knowing/understanding (especially through learning and gathering of information rather than intuitively); information/trivia/fact focused, and likes to record it, especially through writing which tends to be wordy; analysis; gives advice/explanation/guidance, especially that is sought out by others; likes strategy/planning; influences through guidance/direction/manipulation of others; tends towards being cryptic and vague/mysterious in advice or not giving all the information available to them.

    Breath
choice; direction; influence of others (even/especially without intending it?) and being easily influenced; inspiration; freedom from bonds; unstructured-ness; motivation; moving-forward-ness/changeability/progressing (not quite sure what word I'm searching for here); escape/transportation (pchooooo); maybe communication/carrying messages?
I was rereading the Ultimate Classpect Post to make sure I wasn't interpreting things too differently than most people and it says "Breath players also have a unique ability to deal with problems emotionally, like John’s lack of angst at anything that’s happening to him, or Tavros not making a huge deal about what Vriska was doing at any given moment." which I disagree with. I think the point is that they weren't dealing with that at all, just escaping it by distracting themselves with other stuff. Which is one way Breath can be a weakness, in that it can make people run away from a situation instead of dealing with it when they need to, because hey, if it's not something happening in this moment, it doesn't exist. Kind of the opposite of how Blood is very concerned with history and what is already established and the norm of things, and then potentially upturning that norm. Breath players tend to hop to the next thing instead of facing the problems they need to solve. But that makes them great at escapism.

Seer of Breath - This person is really influential on others and an excellent manipulator. They'd be able to see all the opportunities/possibilities for people and guide them to achieve their potential. I suspect the Breath repression thing in combination with the difficulties some of our Seers have gone through mean a Seer of Breath would have a lot of issues with ignoring their own problems, maybe being very prone to thinking about all the good future possibilities while ignoring problems in the moment. They'd probably be an amazing leader, capable of directing their group to paths less taken but with a great outcome, so long as they actually tried to implement their plans instead of just speculating about them. Vague in that they'll ramble on forever without ever directly addressing the issue.

Oooh, Classpects :) I made a thread about them without realizing someone had already made this one, woops.

I'll start by saying... I am not sure at all about mine, but these are the facts:
    1. Everybody else I have talked to has pegged me as a Sylph or Witch
    2. I'm also independently fairly certain I am a Sylph or Witch
    3. The Aspects others associate with me are: Blood, Heart, Hope, Breath
    4. I associate myself with: Blood, Hope, Mind, Life
I think that the best options are Witch of Blood or Sylph of Hope/Heart! Kind of hard to put down, but it's fun to

@Rezlian thanks so much for those rad write-ups! It was really cool to get to read through that breakdown of the different classes and how they'd work with hope. And it solidified in my head that i am indeed a mage, so woot! ::fistbump::

    @Rezlian
Actually, would you... consider a write up on witches versus sylphs? Or a Witch of Blood versus Sylph of ... dammit let me choose between Hope and Heart... uh, Hope? That might help me see another interpretation. But only when you have plenty of time! I don't want to give you much to do, you sound busy, so take your time and if you can't no worries!

@Valerie I dunno that there's already a precedent for what I do or don't do (though I like the reputation I seem to be building. yes, flatter me more >:3). I mean, if we're going by the past few years (or anything before the past week), then usually I already know a person and then I try to figure out what their Classpect is, not try to figure out what type of person fits a certain Classpect. The first is like going into a store and trying on clothes until you find some that fit while the second is like trying to tailor clothes to someone who isn't even there. (both pretty fun though)

That said, I am completely unqualified to figure out land stuff (which in this metaphor is maybe building a house or something?). I could definitely bullshit up some stuff, but I have nothing to really base it on, so it would end up as a pile of bullshit floating in space away from any recognizable point. If you gave me a few things to focus on, like keywords or something, then I could definitely attempt to go off on a tangent about what a land based on those might be like, but it would just be me making things up on the spot out of thin air, not actually building on concepts.

The first resource that comes to mind for that though is godtierrpg.tumblr.com which does some really cool write-ups on lands and quests (here's the Seer of Breath stuff. oh, and here's some stuff for making/naming your own land).I haven't gone through the whole blog or anything (damn you lack of free time, but also because rpg is fascinating to me but not really my thing), but everything I see of theirs looks really cool.

I feel a little bit more confident speculating about how a Seer of Breath would interact with the game mechanics-y stuff in SBURB and their session. But this is very much out of my comfort zone, so I will do my best but promise nothing. (the "you"s in this are mostly general. I'm not aiming to theorize about you specifically but the category you're in)

In what way do you think a Seer of Breath that has to grow into their role/is challenged by it would differ from one that has it all figured out? Would they manage not to fuck everything absolutely up for their session?

So the first thing here is that I think someone thinking they have it all figured out probably means they don't. The mindset that there's some sort of ultimate goal you can reach and then you're golden seems really counterproductive to me. You do change over time and (hopefully) get better at being you, but you'll never know yourself completely and would have an imperfect idea of what perfection would be unless you were already perfect anyways. But I get where this is going with how you grow over time and what you would need to do to become more balanced and... wise, I suppose, as you grew up. (oh, and a note here: I don't think points of development within your Classpect are attached to a certain age range. like a lot of development of identity, it'll tend to have some big changes during the teenage years, but it should keep evolving after that and the initial development itself isn't restricted to the teenage years by any means. the Homestuck kids are also really ahead of the curve in all of this, largely because they've been put in such extreme situations. most people aren't so sure of who they are until quite a bit later.)

I think a Seer of Breath earlier on in their development would largely be challenged by decision and action. They wouldn't have realized yet how exhausting running away from things can be, so that would be their first response to all their problems and it would end up with those problems (that never actually disappeared, just went out of sight out of mind) coming back to bite them in the ass. Because they can see so many options, they'd have a difficult time picking something and sticking with it, especially if it's something hard and oh, there's a much shinier thing over there! They'd be a master of denial and would probably put on a cheery attitude even when they needed help, turning the focus to others' problems and choices instead of their own, which would, you know, result in no help for them. The knowledge of what choices are open to people and tendency towards planning and guiding might make them overbearing when it came to others' decisions, since they haven't yet realized they can't make everyone's decisions on their own, or actually enforce those decisions. At first they might actually end up feeling restricted by endless possibilities and just depend on what other people want or what they feel obligated to choose instead of figuring out decisions on their own.

After they'd developed some more (and development can be uneven. you don't grow up perfectly smooth all at once, but in spikes and false starts), they'd be better at being a good leader not just in knowing what to do, but in convincing other people it should be done. They'd be better at seeing the infinite choices and then actually deciding on a path through them and sticking to that path. They'd be able to think about choices more long term and make difficult ones in the moment so that things would be easier later on. Along with that comes getting better at dealing directly with their own issues, instead of constantly using escapism (though I'm not saying they wouldn't still be quite a daydreamer).

As far as their session goes, I don't see them fucking it up too badly. They seem more likely to hurt themself than other people. One of the worse things they could do would be alienate themself from the rest of their group and thereby deprive people of their guidance. Messing up your interpersonal relationships would suck, but it wouldn't be deadly in SBURB unless the rest of the group was already volatile.

    @Lissiel Yes, Mages! *fistbumps back*

@Raire I will put Witch of Blood vs. Sylph of Hope and/or Heart up next on my list. I'm probably gonna spend most of tomorrow and maybe Sunday trying to get homework done in advance and studying for my midterm on Tuesday, but I'll get around to it soon enough.

So this part is pretty accurate to me. I don't know how much my writing would reflect the angst because I keep flip-flopping between "totally stuck in character's head" and "watch them from a distance", but I admit that I love the angst. I also have no history of addiction. I like being in control of myself and avoid even minor/socially acceptable addictive and mind altering substances(like caffeine, alcohol, and smoking). The last bit is extremely accurate though.

Seer of Void is definately not me! If you still want to be indulged, you can put Seer of Heart on your list. xD
