this is probably a really entry level quadrant ship but raleigh<>mako from pacific rim oh my goddddd i really like playing with the idea of how literally sharing a brain with someone can effect relationships, and these guys are so pale okay. that forehead touch!!!! when i first saw that i gasped out loud because holy shit, how tender and sweet and ahjjgsfhjksh i love

and because i'm super big into star trek lately, have my voyager quadrant ships:

neelix<3<tuvok, although i guess it'd probably be kind of one sided. that grudging respect and "despite all your failings (neelix being annoying, tuvok being dull) you're a pretty cool dude I GUESS." also, while that fusion episode was super fucking weird, it provided ample cannon fodder for my ships >:D

b'elanna<3</<3tom feels pretty obvious to me but it's also SO MUCH FUN to play with. i feel like they could destroy half the ship if so inclined, though. poor janeway, she probably has to auspitize between a lot of frisky couples suffering from cabin fever

seven<>janeway, man. where i'm at in the show it feels like janeway is doing most of the moirail-ing but seven did an excellent job of "no, stop that, you colossal dipshit" when janeway was fucking with the doctor's memory. i'd really like to see seven comfort janeway, too. while i'm at it, janeway<>chakotay (the awkward sexual tension needs to go away >:0 ) and janeway<>tuvok. girl needs all the moirails she can get

harry<>tom is also probably pretty obvious but i love it so much! harry keeps tom in check and stops him from going too far, and tom gets harry to go out and carpe diem as it were, and at the end of the day they're both there for each other. yesssss.

 

Matesprit = sexual/romantic ("normal" human romance concept, basically), moirail = person who keeps you emotionally grounded/protects you (closer to queerplatonic best friends).

With DTB, the messy quadrantflip is because they're characters who, canonically, are both enemies on ideological grounds (one is a criminal who can't go legit, the other is a police chief) and really, really like each other personally. I like the idea of them ending up with a relationship that's somewhere between Batman and Catwoman and Commissioner Gordon and Batman- yeah, he's a criminal, but there are much worse in town, and he can work outside where she can go and do things she can't do, and while it's understood that she'll be right at the front of people chasing him if he hurts a civilian or something else bad he does gets back to her, there are ways they can trust each other. So it's a bit of a mess of caring about each other but also sort of being rivals and enemies, with a brief period early on of one of them trying to rein in the other before realizing that a) he already has a moirail who's doing that job just fine and b) most of his problems are not things that can be solved that way.

The pairing I like pale and hate flushed is because there are some HELLA CREEPY consent issues.

 

Does anyone here follow Wolf 359? Of that nonexistent population, do any of them ship Eiffel<3<Hilbert? Because I think I've ready every fanfic with those two, and rarely is their fucked-upness properly captured outside canon. Especially where they start to bleed pale around the edges. (Eiffel knows his REAL NAME, is the only one that knows his REAL NAME, and Hilbert knows all of Eiffel's secrets in a horribly invasive yet weirdly caring way yum) (not to mention all the wonderful medical dubcon)

@Dave Strider To address the kismesis I would argue that there is no caretaking, unless you count possessive "don't fuck with them only I can fuck with them" belligerence as caretaking.

 

...depends on your headcanon? Most of the beta and alpha kids don't really meet. Like, Rose and Jade barely talk, we have very little idea what Jade and Jane would be like non-mind-controlled hanging out in a normal situation, how do John and Dirk get along, WE DO NOT KNOW. And that's if you even assume that human/human relationships would fit into quadrants, which are an alien construct, and possibly dependent on Alternian biology.

 

And even among trolls it's not like every relationship is defined in terms of quadrants, despite Karkat's posturing about the "HUMAN EMOTION OF FRIENDSHIP."

 

Kanaya was concerned about it being too pale at times, but I tend to read their relationship as very distinctly flushed. Just Kanaya tends towards fussing after people in general and Rose is a snarky difficult piece of shit in general. My feelings on this are based "because it just feels right". Which is how I tend to judge relationships in general. For things to be properly pale Kanaya and Rose would both have to be doing a lot more fretting and controlling for me I feel.

 

Is this an actual question about what's in the comic? Because if it is, the answer is a big old SHRUG. It really is all dependent on your own personal headcanon.

 

I dislike the idea of human romance being all of them mixed because the two black quadrants really don't fit at all with how my romance works. Nor does the pale quadrant fit. My girlfriend is NOT my moirail. She is not the one who keeps me in line nor is she the one I go to for emotional support first and foremost.

Also it's a cultural difference. Duh. You could create a culture that views a mutual love for macaroni as romance and it would be romantic for them if not us. Hell even what we consider romance varies from time to time and place to place. The trolls view the pale quadrant as romantic because culturally they decided ok yeah this is romance. Though I have feelings about the pale quadrant in that I don't feel that most close friendships in media count as flushed romance. We're told in canon that it specifically is NOT JUST best friends and I feel that's important. However the exact specifics are pretty up to you though.

Then again I'm probably biased because I do have a relationship that I can honestly only describe with diamonds. He's a friend yes but he's not just a friend. Nor is he just a best friend. My relationship with him is distinctly tinged in a way I consider to be romantic, but it isn't the same sort of romantic I have going on with my girlfriend. The things we do for one another roughly fall into how the pale quadrant is described in the comic and what we see of the pale relationships we're given. So I've taken it to seriously describe us because it's the only word that I feel fits what we have. So my headcanons on how pale romance work is tinged by that.

As regards troll sex and gender we're given no real explanations on what you're asking about. So you're free to do whatever the fuck you feel like. I personally tend towards viewing trolls as having three "sexes" and two genders for one of those sexes. So mothergrubs, drones, and trolls as we know them are all trolls. Trolls as we know them have two physiologically distinct genders. For what purpose? Who knows. I don't really care because I just think this is what sounds neatest.

No. My siblings aren't pale. Gods no. Jesus fuck no. That's like saying my siblings are flushed or pitch relationships.

 

For me pale porn involves lots of cuddling and papping. I like to imagine there's a thing for dubcon pale porn. Forceful paps. Binding you while papping.

 

Because that's not romance as we've deemed it culturally. Nor do I feel romantic towards my siblings. Though theoretically I might. My moirail? Yes. Yes I do. That's romantic. Why is it romantic? Because I damn well said it is.
