I first discovered the Homestuck system from these forums. And the thing is, Hussie happened across A Thing that appears to map well to real reality and definitely to fiction.

Hodgell's Kencyrath Series: Jame <> Brier, definitely. I ship Rue <3 Brier myself. Kindrie <3 Kirien. Jame and Torisen have a horrible quadrant vacillation going on that needs an auspistice to sort out, sometimes they're spades for each other, sometimes hearts, sometimes diamonds. I suspect Kindrie will take up that role eventually, but I don't know which relationship they'll settle on. I want it to be caliginous (because that would be more fun, and because they have always been rivals-who-loved-each-other) but who knows. Jame <3< Bane. Their last physical touch was a kiss containing a bite that drew blood, after all. I want to see Jame <3 Shade, but I don't think it will actually happen.

In Gravity Falls, I ship Dipper <> Mabel like burning and I desperately want someone who sees both sides of the argument (not just Stan's) to auspistice between Stan and Ford. I think their original diamond was unhealthy (Stan depended on Ford way too much and was unable to let go of their childhood dream and focus on actually growing up and getting careers, and Ford doesn't handle neediness well at all because he's terrified of it), but they could be diamonds again if someone helped them sort it out first.

Oh, man, I know, the Tales series! (They should call it the Pales series...) Learning about quadrants cleaned up my ships for these games so much.

Naruto/sakura/sasuke as the worlds most absurd non-functional constantly-rotating clubs.

Sakura/ino, where they started pale and then sakura flipped black and Ino didnt want to lose her so she want along with it but was still sorta pale for her so it just sort of...didnt work. and then Ino met Temari and fell in True Hate, and was forced to sort her shit out with Sakura.

I like the idea of hinata<3<|neji a lot but I think itd take a lot of development to get there from canon, at least when i stopped watching. Still, man, that kind of respect for each other--and respect for themselves--would be SO GOOD for both of them, and also wow it would be so pretty. I want to know what bodyguard/feudal lady spades would look like too i bet that'd be amazing and also hella complicated.

Kakashi/Gai where Gai courted that mothefucker's spade like a goddamned gentleman for years. He probably cried the first time Kakashi took one of his challenges seriously and showed up the next morning with black roses. The rest of the village thought they were hella hate married like four years ago and can't figure out why Gai is standing in the road shouting poetry at Kakashi's window at four in the goddamned morning.

Also Gaara is carrying the worlds biggest diamond!torch for Naruto, who thinks they're Buds and completly fails to even notice Gaara's scandalously obvious crush.

Sora/kairi/riku as FUCKING DESTINY TRUE LOVE clubs, i will fight anyone on this they are the perfect ashen ship. Roxas/namine as "we are both so broken, wow fuck" moirails. Roxas/Axel as a turboflip heartspade clusterfuck where neither of them admit to having feelings even though they obviously do and they hurt each other and want each other's presence and its a big mess of pain and love and also really inappropriate sex.

Has anyone watched/read Hanakimi? The love triangle there is the stupidest thing ever. Mizuki is obviously hella pale for Sano, while Nakatsu was hearts for her, and the two of them fucking loved being quadrant corners, it was ridiculous. Also kagurazaka is my go-to example of how a kismesis acts when their rival gets fucked up, how rivals take care of each other and encourage each other when they're not both at top form.

I think I've mentioned how I ship Commander Vimes' quadrants elsewhere but: he is so pale for Carrot. Oh my lord, SO PALE. The end of Men at Arms is straight out of a pale porno. I cannot even. And Vimes/ankh morpork/vetinari clubs are practically canon. Look at what total joy vetinari and vimes take in being complete shits to each other, listen to how they talk about the city. I think maybe he could've had a spade thing with Carcer, but that guy was actually crazy so it didnt last. And his heart belongs to lady syble forever, they are the best<3

 

@alchemicalheart oh god, so much Harry/Draco. That was the worlds most embarrassingly obvious hatecrush since like. First sight. And then in...what was it, half blood prince when Harry just like. Started following him around everywhere and wouldn't shut up about how terrible and also pretty he was? Jesus, tone it down dude. I bet the troll version of that book made everyone totally headdesk with OMG WHY HAVE THEY NOT HOOKED UP YET. They probably stand on the train platform in the epilogue and snark awkwardly at each other.

Okay, okay but what if they started off after the garden as the stupidest most awkward spades because This Is How You Do Right? Like, playing murder tag through the centuries and neither of them wants to admit that its a fun game but theres no real animosity there. And finally they were just like. You know what, fuck this, lets get drunk. And then they settle into a super comfortable moirailship where they know each others weaknesses and compensate for them and poke each other to try new things and enjoy life and actually be happy. And from time to time Aziraphale gets really drunk and like, lays on Crowley's lap in a really inappropriate way and does the "i love you man," drunk thing until Crowley has to olly outy or die of embarrassment. And sometimes Crowley is like. This is too many feels i am going to Seduce That Angel there is not enough dick sucking in this platonic partnership i am hardcore no really. /seriousface And Aziraphale just sort of. Kisses his nose and pats his hand and completely kills it until Crowley has to give up and be like. Fine. I actually do like you a lot in not the pants off way dont tell anyone. And they never do flip red for real but they never really stop poking the edges of it either.

Kairi <3 Sora <3< Riku <> Kairi

Why would anyone try to auspisticize between Sora and Riku, they're perfect, the purity of their rivalry resonates through the ages. It's Roxas and Riku who needed a middle leaf. In a kinder world there would have been Namine c3< (Roxas, Riku) and I would stare at it with this face 8'D

 

I will concede the riku/namine/roxas club. That is hella cute, and i could be convinced that roxas/namine works as well clubs as diamonds since it would have to be a pretty dinged up diamond to begin with.

But no, no friend, riku and sora are the SHITTEST rivalry. Yes they compete, and even often enjoy it. But it doesnt build them up and help them be their best. Riku and Sora both are at their absolute /worst/ when they're honestly trying to prove they're better than the other. Sora turns into a clueless asshole blithely "everything is fine if i just believe it hard enough! :D" -ing across the universe; Riku becomes a hyperfocused self-destructive asshole breaking everything around him because he can't even with himself. They spend almost three whole games running around hurting each other and themselves and other people because they want to connect and can't give up on trying and yet whenever they do try they get burned. Think how often you get shots of riku holding out his hand and Sora desperately just failing to reach him.

Its not until Kairi stops waiting passively at the sidelines and instead gets in between them and puts soras hand in riku's and holds it there that they can actually see each other clearly and work together, and THATS when they get to be their best. Riku stops hiding and trying to destroy himself and give up and finds the strength to be himself. Sora takes the time to actually pay attention to what Riku really is thinking and feeling, he slows down to consider what riku needs and is doing instead of just charging off and assuming Riku will do what he wants him to do and getting all buttmad when riku's a whole person of his own and not a sidekick. Like, they like being shits to each other but they really need someone ready to step in and check them when they start to go off the rails. Then they can play-fight like they love to without, you know, destroying worlds.

Also, i do think Kairi started off as red for sora. But thinking of herself as a passive princess in a tower is ridiculous levels of terrible for her. Waiting on the island for her One True Heart to come back from his Valiant Adventures fucked her up so bad she lost her own heart to darkness. Kairi doesnt become functional or happy either until she stops waiting for the boys to direct things and wades in to fix them herself.

Half the problem Sora and Riku have in KH 1 is that they let (made?) Kairi get between them. They were both thinking they were straight because herp derp adolescence, so they just assumed that if they were having a rivalry and feels were involved then they must have been competing for the girl. And since they weren't actually talking to each other about how they felt about each other, both of them thought the other one was obviously better and so didn't realize that the feelings of rivalry were reciprocated. At the end of KH 2, Kairi has some profound ideas for Riku, like "redemption doesn't mean torturing yourself" and "making even really bad mistakes doesn't mean you're worthless forever". But all she does for Sora is say "Hey, this is Riku. You like Riku," and step back. Then the boys team up, kick ass, go sit on the beach, confess that they each always wished they were as cool as the other.

Sora and Riku both screw up a lot when things get more complicated (partly because good advice from adults is just NOT A THING in this universe, ugh) but when it's just the two of them, they're perfect.

 

Hmmm. Again, not into KH, but a relationship never exists in a vacuum. One of the basic tests of a relationship is whether you can work through outside challenges as well as internal. To me, saying when it's just them they're fine means the relationship failed.

 

Not only does Axel turboflip red/black with Roxas, but he flips pale/black with Siax, and pale/ashen with Xion (her auspitizing between him and Roxas, him auspitizing between her and Siax in the worst way) and in general is the type who gets terrible soul destroying dysfunctional crushes on anyone he's actually close to. He probably needs to sit down and rethink his life.

Tifa<3Aerith, Aerith<>Cloud, Aerith<3 Zack, Tifa<3Cloud and also Zack<3Cloud because who can resist the chocobo. Genesis is black to the entire world, except Angeal who he is grudgingly pale for, and especially Sephiroth. Sephiroth was pale as shit for Angeal and flipping black/red for Genesis, but never actually voiced his feelings because Sephiroth. He and Zack were tentatively moirails before the shit, it went down. Angeal was basically all the quadrants for Genesis. I also love Cloud<3</<> flipping with Barrett.
