It Makes Me Happy That I'm Not Them. It inspired me; a while back I was discussing the possibility of a fic with Blaggut as an angel. Darkfics are/were quite popular, but they tend to be either crap or disturbing. (This fandom was the one which had the fic I described to the artist here on an old board which I don't think is active now. I hate "may contain mature content" as a warning at the best of times; you tell me, you're the writer!)
You may also enjoy these. I love discussing gruesome aspects of kids' book worlds. Going by real otter behaviour, Folgrim was quite possibly a lot grosser than Jacques probably meant. Also, back to Veil, Reactive Attachment Disorder starts in infancy; it's the result of very severe neglect/abuse between the ages of six months and three years. Veil was handed over to a caregiver who didn't seem to pay any attention to him pretty much at birth, and it only got worse later. Most RAD kids don't turn out violent, but sometimes the lack of empathy causes them to act out in pretty horrible ways - the kid in the documentary Child of Rage tried multiple times to kill her brother. On the other hand, Veil's infantile biting habit was probably just the result of being a ferret plus not being disciplined properly.
Augh, guy on FA is being a dick about them again. Yes, we get it, you don't like the stereotypical species divide but it's hardly a sign of Mr Jacques having issue with actual human races.
OUTCAST OF REDWALL WAS MY FAVOURITE also it might have been my first redwall.....no wait it was Martin the Warrior, but Outcast is still my favourite. (Yeah I'm with the Veil treatment stuff... I think I was in the kind of place where I just understood enough that if you treat anyone like shit in any way they're gonna lash out - I mean Sunflash DID kill like all of his abusers and no-one's saying that was bad? I know that vermin racism takes a part here but that's IU, not meta...) Also I tried to do some forum RP a while back, but teenage me was really put off by all the anglophiles going 'OMG people really talk like that???' I think if phonetically wrote a Brooklyn accent versus a Texan on it'd sound just as odd, bro. (I had a stoat mercenary called Raksha Cutear, and she was much cooler than any of the other sword fodder vermin the had on that site :p )
I love the sword-fodder vermin, they have horrible lives and I want to snuggle them all better even if I catch bubonic plague.
Also I remember I also had a melanistic squirrel archer called Seth Longfletch. He was on a vengeance quest but he never got any traction because all the other RPers didn't like the idea of a Badger being the Bad Guy, however accidentally. He fought alongside vermin and broke bread with them as well, so I expect all those 'goodbeasts' would look at him sideways XD I'm re-reading Pearls of Lutra and I was reminded of him by Grath XD (Also I just rebought like half the series on kindle because goddamit I should never give away books D:)
lol idk let's build a better redwall with blackjack and hookers Um I mean I think it would be interesting to do like a typical adventure-quest type thing in that setting? Like, unless that's where your characters come from, we don't need to involve the Abbey at all - hell, we don't even need to be in Mossflower, although that would make things easier. Say, a character has a goal in mind and doesn't mind who helps him fufill it - that allows any 'vermin' type characters to mesh with 'goodbeasts' and sort of work towards a common goal and realise that maybe they're not so different or weird after all! (It's corny I know. Any other ideas? Does anyone have any characters they have now and we can work out what they might want in life? Also unless anyone has any better ideas I'm calling the thread in fantown 'A better Redwall, with Blackjack and hookers!')
I have a couple of OCs I wouldn't mind doing something with - a trans lady stoat and her bestie who's a quadruple-amputee cat. (Gender roles are barely a thing in Mossflower so she gets a lot of "why is this important?" but not many think it's a problem.)
There's a couple settings that didn't have much to do with Redwall. Lord Brocktree, Rakkety Tam and I want to say Triss? Lutra was really just "Hey the pearls are here, everything interesting happens elsewhere." I've got an otter vagabond OC. What could be interesting is there's a couple of the Badger Lords that don't get a story. They're either Pre-Brocktree (Spearlady Gorse, Bluestripe the Wild, Ceteruler the Just) or mentioned only in passing (Rawnblade in Mariel). I've always loved the Salamandastron-centered stories best, how did those badgers take Salamandastron? Because invariably it gets overrun by some horde or another between badgers and needs to be retaken by the new one.
Hah, well, I have my squirrel who wants to kill the current Badger lord who was responsible for the death of his entire tribe - bloodwrath is a terrible thing, and it can't always be aimed predictably. There can't have been no asshole/careless badger lords, right? Maybe it starts with him going 'I'M GOING TO STORM A MOUNTAIN AND KILL SOMEONE WHO COULD LITERALLY BREAK ME IN HALF WITH HIS PINKIE CLAW' but wiser heads prevail. Maybe a quest to find a nicer badger who's willing to take up the mantle, THEN storm Salamandastron? (Try saying those last couple words five times fast XDD)
We should probably move planning stuff to its own thread, but until then... Hostile takeover of Salamandastron! YES. Dunno how we could justify taking the mountain from its "rightful" ruler and his army. Say maybe he went completely bonkers with Bloodwrath and is more-or-less stuck? That kind of thing was apparently a threat with Cregga Roseyes. S/he'll have an army of the Old Guard, hares who won't let a new badger take the throne despite the current one's insanity? Salamandastron: Civil War.
I made a thread :3 Also I am hella tired and might conk out at any moment, but yeah - Seth, while potientally important to the plot, is def the sort of person to just bugger off without telling anyone and go do his own thing for a day or two. Plus, squirrel ninja. He doesn't stick out like a normal grey or red would - and he is genetically a grey, for the record.
Oh also - @Aniseed @alchemicalheart @bornofthesea670 You guys all mentioned having or had Redwall OCs. You want in on these shenanigans?
hmm probably not right now. though if you guys make a thread for redwall rp i'll likely pop in to take a look at it and maybe join in at some point in the future. unfortunately my spoons are constantly drained and i can't focus on basically anything at all lately. :/
