'so how are we feeling today, cowboy or ancient chinese fantasy ghostbusting monk?' unrelated: the clan juniors making friends with each other is so sweet
would give quite a lot to know which of the apparently multitudinous words for 'brother' jin guanyu used to greet lan xichen just then in the og chinese. is there a special one for sworn brothers, i wonder? or is it gege again
me, sipping a glass of wine: ah, i see this man who i am shipping with another man has a wife whomst he loves very much. me: Jeeves! you know what to do! my menacing butler: indeed sir my menacing butler: [adds her to the polycule diagram]
ah well that's fucked up, boy howdy etcetera. disappointed in you, fella. very disappointed. rude of you to become evil.
well that was a fascinating little flashback gently pets meng yao's head and whispers in his ear you're a fucked up little man and i like you. your wife didn't deserve any of this shit though. gonna hold a grudge for that one
nie huaisang also hasn't deserved a damn thing that's happened to him, poor boy. he might be kind of a lazy spoiled little brat at heart but he's also a good boy who's doing his best, kind of, sorta, please stop crying
now shit has well and truly hit the fan and we're in another flashback, i should probably stop reading and seek out uhhh something less uhhh stressful whether i will or not remains to be seen also i have no idea how i keep managing to read these novels despite them being full of stuff i don't usually enjoy? coughlookatallthatbetrayalcough if anyone had actually like given me plot synopses of either HOB or GDC in any detail I never would have embarked on either of them it almost makes me bold and stupid enough to try SVSSS, even though the very core principle of that story gives me the screaming mimis (i hate bodyswaps)
oh yes, i almost forgot. Jeeves! amend the diagram! my menacing butler: of course, sir [writes FUCKED UP across it in marker pen]
one fanfic rejected for being god-damn skyrim isekai. i can't fucking deal with skyrim isekai. my fault for skimreading the tags when i first opened it another is. just clumsily written enough that it grates on me and will probably also have to be closed
perfectly average railway engineer, please do not look twice calling him Mal for the moment because my brain made a joke about Njor Mal Mann he's related to a dream i had about spirit powered trains
Oh I can answer this one actually! They're referred to in order of age/I think also somewhat seniority? But also given their relative ranks sort of equivalent. Anyway! It's First Brother/Big Brother (I've seen both) for NMJ, da-ge; Second Brother/er-ge for LXC; and Third Brother/San-ge for JGY. (i know this solely bc I looked up a guide for why this for a different show, but it's apparently standard among sworn brother things in fiction at least and also somewhat among family ditto)
if this is written with the character I think it is, it would literally translate to Big Brother but without the respective-age connotations the phrase has in english (that's gege); so the translators using First Brother might be keeping more in tone with erge and sange while sidestepping the Eldest tripping hazard entirely
please do not harbour any beliefs that this man, Ava Ridge, is anything other than a mechanic who does maintenance on trains, because that is what he is (i'm still calling him Mal, i just also have fun coming up with really awful punny aliases)
having slept on it, ava ridge is probably a better name for him actually because it actually sounds like a real one.
"Has anybody ever told you your name sounds exactly like 'average'?" "Only everybody I've ever met, yes." "What were your parents thinking?" "My parents had very low expectations."
