I'm not sure if this got answered yet, I looked through the thread to check, but may have missed a reply. Anyway, I'm 90% sure this is one of the borg episodes of Star Trek: Next generation

go to 39:20 to see the scene, its not quite what you described but definitely a baby in a drawer hooked up to wires and sensors

I'm trying to remember a video game. It was, I think, a DS cartridge game - it was sort of sci-fi magitech, with the protagonist using light/dark magic (depending on your choice at the beginning) and the rest of your team using various elemental-aligned magics. Everyone's magic got stronger or weaker based on where you were and what time of day it was and which planets were in alignment, so your magic would be strongest in the day or at night, and everyone else's would be strongest if they were on a planet that matched their elemental alignment and their planet was in ascendance.
The plot was kind of sketchy - you and your friends were attending a magic school, and then school trip to visit the places all your friends came from....on a rocket ship, except your character is the only human and you were supposed to be keeping that quiet because Reasons (something about humanity not having joined the alliance yet, I think, so you weren't supposed to be wandering around without supervision or...something? it might just have been one of your friends panicking). So of course, the rocket ship encounters Problems and you and your friends are promptly scattered all over the place, with no one even being on the same planets and none of the teachers in sight. So you've got to go round up your friends, find the teachers(?) and get back to the school(?).

I do not remember the name, or anything besides that the magic system was really cool and kind of convoluted with how it required you to keep track of which planets were strongest in order to make the best use out of elemental strengths and weaknesses.

oh, thinking of, could be one of the borg episodes of Voyager; they too had a baby in a drawer at one point, and tuvok and janeway sneaking around a borg ship, and the voyager borg ships had more of a black aesthetic

Does anyone else remember when they came out with that Looney Tunes magazine to get kids into stamp collecting? I remember an issue about the Universal Monsters stamps, so this would have been around 1997. I had a subscription to it, and I remember it was heavily advertised on TV, on Nickelodeon or Cartoon Network or whatever. But I can't find any evidence it actually existed online, and every time I bring it up with someone they have no idea what I'm talking about.

I'm sure if I could remember the actual name of the magazine, that would help, but alas.

    I'm looking for a quote!
    Google is unhelpful.

    things i remember about it:
    a) spoken by a male voice, so podcast, movie, tv show? i haven't listened to many english audiobooks.
    b) the she in question chose honor/survival over personal morals, i think?

oh man, i randomly remembered something from my childhood today...

so there's this old game called The Manhole-- not even really a game, it's a "software toy" where you basically just go into an Alice In Wonderland-esque magical world and can wander around exploring things. but the only thing i remembered from it was that there was a walrus who said "INDUBITABLY!" in this great voice when you clicked on him. and for some reason that always stuck with me. my whole life, whenever i see the word i just hear that walrus saying "INNNdubitabLEE!" in that exact tone. so i went to find some game footage... and discovered that that's the experience of LITERALLY EVERYONE who played it as a kid! the LPer talks about it, and the comments are full of people saying the same thing.

(should be timestamped for 12:59) (ETA the timestamp doesn't seem to be working. skip ahead for walrus!)

please, everyone, enjoy this incredible walrus, and have your mental pronunciation of the word "indubitably" forever altered.

    So there's this song.

I heard it on youtube, circa late 2015 according to the notepad file I have where I attempted to scribble down the lyrics. I say attempted, because I really digged this song but couldn't find lyrics uploaded anywhere. I was not quite clever enough to think to write down the artist, assuming whoever uploaded it had included that information in the first place. I can remember the music perfectly clearly, but of course I have no way of conveying that, only what may or may not be the lyrics:

I've been travelling, travelling for so long
The moon following me on my way home
The caravan's full, the horses are thirsty
    Praying to the moon
    Light me with your mercy
    Blue moon, blue moon, rising
My body's waiting, waiting for the medicine
The sun's aching, waiting for the penicillin
The woods are tired, minutes from breaking
    O moon
    Blue moon, blue moon, rising
    The wood's getting closer
    The world's getting small
Is your hound getting closer to my mother's door
    Blue moon, blue moon, rising
    Blue moon, blue moon, rising
    (instrumental)
    Blue moon, blue moon, rising
    Blue moon, blue moon, ri-i-ising

also wow I just realized I still say 'cut' instead of readmore or w/e
old lj habits die hard apparently

    anyways

I really really want to find this song again but cannot get any leads, since... I mean, I don't have an artist and the lyrics still don't appear to be uploaded anywhere. I'm 90% sure it was uploaded to a channel similar to say, Monstafluff or Diversity or NCS or MrSuicideSheep or --- one of those youtube channels that aggregates musics. Except none of those have any search come up on their channel for an upload called 'blue moon' unless I'm searching wrong, and I kinda hope I am just so someone else can find it. The only other information I have is it was... kinda like a Delta Rae vibe?? musically speaking?? and I wanted to write a lapis fic tied to it, because that information TOTALLY helps you find it.

It’s definitely the same lyrics, just different guesses about words that are hard to make out. Overall these seem more accurate to me.

I think the site is right that it’s “I’m getting closer to my mother’s door” or maybe “‘Cause I’m getting closer” because I think a hound would be too important to not enunciate more clearly. But either way, I think all the fine hairs on my entire body stood on end for that line, holy shit.

Man, seriously. I tried googling myself and got so much nothing.

If that site is right about it being “my bud” or “my buddy” who is waiting for the medicine, then I wonder if it’s “his son” who is aching. Which would probably finish the verse as, “O moon, have mercy on the poor babe.” But it’s hard to tell for sure.

I think the male vocal line is:
    The wood's getting closer
    The road’s getting small
    And I’m only waiting
    For horses to fall
    Continue to guide me
    For five minutes more
‘Cause I’m getting closer to my mother's door

I've been looking for an essay about worldbuilding that i think was written by Tolkien, but I'm struggling to find it again. It was about how you should include parts that aren't explained - I think it talked about having mountains in the distance that the characters to not reach, or something like that.

Does anyone recognise this it all? Google is failing me and it's annoying.

I saw a movie while I was in China, on TV, I think in Hong Kong in 1988, which had a fight scene in a museum. I remember a person getting impaled by a thrown (taxidermied) pterodactyl, and also a joke where one of the museum people picked up a thing to throw, looked at it, set it back down carefully, and picked something else.

Have you tried looking into his letters at all? Not just the formal essays. This does feel very familiar to me but I can't quite recall what it would be right now. If it is by him though it might be stuffed in one of his letters.
