I'm purrsonally reserving judgment and intend to get absolutely shitfaced before I see it XD

 

spent at least 30 minutes ranting about this to a pal. got weird feels about it. one hand, love cats. other hand, wtf is this uncanny valley eye hell? also lizard brain recoils at the thought of seeing anything voluntarily w/ taylor swift in it. spoken lines feels funky as well. hoping it's not terrible but honestly wish this kind of budget and production was being put towards a musical that isn't available for easy consumption (ie there's already an official cats recording that exists, whereas there isn't for most other musicals) but i guess this is better than some other options.

 

it says it's up for 24 hours in the UK and 48 elsewhere!!

I grew up with the og broadway cast recording so I really want to find a video of that song to show my partner...
also I'm not as big a fan of how they did misto's bit in this :/ had a go at finding a video of a better version but no luck?

 

yeah, this is the ‘98 movie version (you can actually spot a younger asparagus in the bg that they had picked out for the role of growltiger before they cut it :’( ) and they cut a bunch of misto’s bit (rip conjuring turn) for time

i found some decent-ish clips from stage recordings of growltiger but that was ages ago, i’ll see if i can dig it up again

 

I remembered-ish that we all talked about this at one point (and were Appropriately Sore over the loss of growltiger and THE conjuring turn) so I backread the thread...god we had good times

I'm getting nostalgic AND I have some thoughts I'm gonna add in a post below

 

re: misto's coloring: he's described as "black, from his ears to the tip of his tail" but not Technically on his underside so one could make the Very Cursed argument that a misto headcanon could be "black ears, and then a stripe all the way down, like some kind of reverse skunk"

re: misto being fanonized as a wilting violet: I think they got the idea from the "he is quiet and small", but imo one can be quiet while also being a total smug arrogant snarkball


also I'm remembering that one of my fave things to do with productions/recordings was watch faces and expressions to see how cats felt about each other and extrapolate headcanons from there...

 

I have an indestructible fondness for that version since my sibling and I watched it about 15 thousand times when I was a kid

 

best misto is smug bitch misto, it is what i desire in my heart of hearts

and yeah, i busted 2 vhs tapes of the ‘98 version growing up...i adore it even if it fails to give me sexy pirate song

 

I'm biased because I grew up with just the recording of the broadway version...so like, I never heard the pekes and pollicles song? but oh boy that growltiger

 

I had the broadway cast soundtrack so I knew the growltiger song from there, and it was very much appreciated, but the pekes and the pollicles was always the Real one to me. I had an OC based on the Great Rumpus Cat lol
