(When I played DA2, the darkspawn attacked right after I got an ambient dialogue about how it was time to move off the mountain. YEAH NO SHIT.)
>I'll blend in. >(something about "how are things different in Tevinter," I forgot to write down what the question was) >Investigate >Why did it change? >Weren't they defeated?
>Investigate >Are the magisters so terrible? SPARROW HAWKE, ASKING INSENSITIVE QUESTIONS FOR FUN AND PROFIT (that's NOT how i would have phrased that) >How do you know that? sparrow -- GREAT. COOL. THE OPTION WHERE WE AGREE WITH HIM (>The Circle is necessary) HAS JUST VANISHED, I GUESS BECAUSE WE'RE BEING SO ARGUMENTATIVE. THE TOP OPTION HERE WILL GIVE US FIFTEEN RIVALRY, THE MIDDLE FIVE. (scurries off to add up numbers and see if this is gonna be the tragic story of how Sparrow tragically failed to romance Fenris due to her pro-mage leanings) >Investigate >How is it inevitable? merrill is RIGHT HERE, jackass Plot-path, rather than tone, icons. I don't THINK any of these affect the rivalry or friendship - I assume we're gonna end up routed back to the above dialog where we're gonna get some amount of rivalry anyway. >_?
>So this is the answer? Oh, hey, the get-along option is back. So here's the thing: if we pick one of the options other than "The Circle is necessary," we caaaan't friendmance Fenris unless we recoup the friendship loss by, e.g., turning some mages in to the Circle. Here, then, are our options: For the sake of getting along with our BF, say the Circle is necessary. Continue friendmancing. Pick one of the pro-mage options and then hand some mages in in (upcoming quest). I don't know why Sparrow would stand up for mages here and then turn them in later, unless I guess she goes off and thinks hard about it and concludes maybe Fenris is right, but it's an option. Pick "It's wrong to oppress mages" and just switch over to rivalmancing Fenris. This will require us to, at one point later, not believe him about how serious a problem is and put it off briefly, but other than that we can be perfectly nice to him, just pro-mage. I'm currently leaning towards 3, just because I'm starting to feel weird about "just never talk to your beau about the massive ideological schism between the two of you" as a solution to the problem, but that might be rash. Can I have your votes in the form of bolded numbers, please? >Kintsugi: vote? never mind, see below
Arghh I really don't like the rivalmances... are there any ways to recoup the loss without turning in mages?
.. Oh, wait, I might be being really stupid. Let me check something. I think we might be able to do it if we just do two quests in a different order and end up missing one potential cutscene. Past Blue, why did you think this was necessary?
Yeah, we're fine if we do A Bitter Pill before Questioning Beliefs, and I'm a dumbass who overthinks everything. :P We should still pick "The Circle doesn't work" instead of "It's wrong to oppress mages," though. Let it not be said that Sparrow Hawke can't be at least slightly diplomatic.
>The Circle doesn't work. >:T Spoiler: Codex - Tevinter: The Magisters Before it became the Imperium, Tevinter was ruled by a dynasty of kings. And long before the Chantry there was a Circle of Magi: the society of mages in each city. The titles our modern Circles use—enchanter, senior enchanter, first enchanter—all originated here. But above the first enchanter, the Circles of Tevinter had another office: magister. The magisters formed a council of the most powerful mages in the kingdom. They convened in Minrathous and held dominion over all magic in the land. When Darinius seized the throne in -1195 Ancient, the Court of the Magisters became the royal court, and "magister" was the only title of nobility recognized in Tevinter. The Imperium today is a magocracy. Political power is solely in the hands of the magisters, who come only from the ranks of the Circle. Every young mage aspires to be a magister's apprentice because it's the best chance of ascending to the rank of magister themselves. —From Black City, Black Divine: A Study of the Tevinter Imperium, by Sister Petrine, Chantry scholar I don't even remember what he's supposed to be making, lmao. So.. that's done, then! What's next? Act of Mercy, or The Unbidden Rescue? You may remember that Act of Mercy started with a mysterious note telling us to come to the Wounded Coast to prevent a bunch of deaths, while The Unbidden Rescue we got from a poster telling us to talk to a guy at Viscount's Keep to get a job. >_? #kpda2banter #isabela+merrill
>The Circle doesn't work Because it DOESN'T. The Kirkwall Circle's treatment of mages seems to directly push them into the demons-and-blood-magic routes (whose bright idea was it to flog mages and give them a direct source of blood when they're in a lot of turmoil...)
