You should really hear the voice acting here- Cassandra sounds very broken up about all this.

She pulls a knife, and the music tries to make us feel anxious about this, but we know she's better than that, right? And indeed...

...she cuts our bonds.



And we're free! Sort of. There's really only one thing to do at this point, but now that it's possible to save, I think I need to break for the night. I'll be back tomorrow, and thanks for the guidance so far!

 

When we last left our hero, she was on some bridge somewhere in the custody of Cassandra Pentaghast! We return to that same bridge, where what appears to be some kind of chaplain...

...is being remarkably chill about this alleged mass murderer dropping in on his sermon.

Cassandra orders the gate open. The path beyond has barricades, more guards, and a bunch of still-burning rubble.

It also has more glowing green stuff, which causes Wren to fall down from hand pain again.

 

Wren's collapse triggers a brief cutscene, where Cassandra helps us up and explains:

Really? Seems like she'd be easy to identify. Not a lot of women glow like that.

So that's where this Conclave was? Damn.

...Glowy lady's gonna turn out to be Andraste, isn't she.

 

We're not going to see anything quite as soon as Cassandra may have intended, because another greensplosion goes off on the next bridge...

...which collapses...

...onto some very resilient ice.

Wren does not appear to notice how broken her wrist is. Possibly this is because that's the hand with the weird glowy shit in it... or possibly it's because this is just a bit of graphical weirdness.

Oh, and this is the best shot of the horn-bling I've seen so far. Even in character creation, I didn't realize it was two different metals!

More green stuff falls onto the ice, this time not so much exploding...

...as bringing a demon. Joy.

Cassandra takes the job of protecting her prisoner very seriously!

Said prisoner would rather not need it, and spots some other things that have fallen off the bridge. Just as well, since another demon has shown up outside Cassandra's field of view.

 

Convenient waeponry time!

After a brief tutorial on how to stab things, we take the second demon off Cass' back. She shish-kebabs the other one.

...oh come on, can't we take the fact that I didn't use them on you and run off while you were distracted by demons as a show of good faith?

In this game, there's a very convenient little speech bubble by the portrait of a party member who's talking! Makes conversations much easier to record in caps.


Cassandra doesn't seem to mind me pausing to rob a corpse or two. But what's this "vitaar" and why is it only for qunari?

Oh. Because it would kill anyone else. I guess we use this instead of helmets because fitting them over our horns would a: be tricky and b: make us look like cartoon Vikings.

I may have been a little distracted by this loot, but I got to the fight eventually and Cassandra was fine.

Hey, research drops! I saw in a loading-screen card that you can get combat bonuses against creatures you've researched enough. See? My preoccupation with loot has strategic benefits, so there.

 

La di da di da, fightin' more demons, nbd. Got a nice shot of my jump-and-stabbity ability. This is why I like rogues, all this flippy ninja shit.

Things Cassandra doesn't mind me doing: Corpse robbing, rubbing poison on my face, posing for a selfie with the Breach in my cool new poison facepaint...

Not really 100% what I'd expected a rift to look like, but whatever, time for more stabbity.

 

A couple of these people look kind of familiar...

But then, without so much as a please, this egg-shaped jerk grabs my hand and shoves it in the rift!

It's a very pretty light show, and it does get rid of the rift, but Wren doesn't look happy about having her personal space disregarded.

Or she was just wondering wtf just happened, that could also be it. Anyway, decision time!
