Maybe the others sense that something has changed, because...

    OUR CHOICES ARE:
    The direct approach:
    Or the mountain path:

It seems to be implying that the squad on the mountain are still alive and could be rescued by us, so that's where I'd be going if left to my own devices. What do you guys think?

Option 2 sounds more rogue-ish,yeah? I vote that one.

yeah 2 sounds cool, though 'casualties' is mildly concerning.
on the other hand the first says that scouts could be lost so i think neither of those options will leave us with no dead npc soldiers (what? i want to keep all these faceless, nameless people alive if possible :c)

Agree or not, Cass is going to go about this the right way. Such a professional. *chinhands*

And here is where the cutscene drops us off. Here is also where I decide not to put character progression to a vote as we have enough of those already and also I feel like the one who has to do the actual stabbing should be the one who decides how the stabbing happens.
    [IMG] [IMG]
    Backstab get!

Then comes some otherwise uninteresting climbing of ladders and hiking of switchbacks that probably exists to provide time for some party conversation:
[IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]
What a ray of sunshine you are, Solas.
Predictably, the mine is full of demons. Soon, it will be full of dead demons.
I'm not sure what they mined here, but until I receive further information I'm gonna assume it was ice.
Up till now there's been a deplorable ratio of crates, barrels, and bags to actual loot, but now there's gold! And...
...huh. I had no idea you could insulate yourself from electricity just by wearing plaid.
    More demons become dead demons.
Turns out cotton has healing properties. Who knew fashion was such an important mage skill? And in that case, why do they seem to wear such hideous hats?

At last, we're out of the ice mines! But... oh no...
    [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]
Oh, okay. I guess it would have been too much to ask for all of them to be around to save.

    We know, Solas.
    And that's Tal-Vashoth, thank you.
Walking, walking... are those combat noises I hear?
Why yes, they are! Also another rift!

While Cass gets stuck in, I use my handy-dandy built-in AOE.
    [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]
Confirmation that these are the surviving scouts.
And probably also that they wouldn't have survived much longer if, for instance, we'd gone with the main force. Good job on that rescue, guys!
Maybe Solas isn't wrong to think he's smarter than everyone. He is the only one with the sense not to stick his head in the rift while I'm sealing it.
    [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]
Yeah, we pretty much do whatever the alleged-mass-murdering prisoner says around here, it's just how we roll.

Nice to see someone else who doesn't want me dead!
    [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]
The scout party clears out, and so do we.

Incidentally, why all this blood if we've only been fighting demons so far? Not even abominations, just demons that dissolve into mist and rags when you kill them. Do they even bleed?!?

Once again, Cass keeps us from needing to stop and ask for directions, but first I'm going to search these demon remains for...
...hey, that's a pretty sweet hat! Nobody's actually badass enough to wear it yet, but once someone is, it should come in handy... what with all the exploding that things seem to be doing lately...

Also, the longbow has a restriction on it that says "Not Varric". I lol'd.
Going down ladders is way faster than going up.
    [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]
Yeah, Solas, what happened to staying on task? :P

    More scenery porn!

Well, the "ashes" part is right...
Oh, and this one reminds me, do you guys want me to share the codices? If so, by capping them or by tracking down links?
    [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]
    Totally Andraste.

Now, as you can see, the scenery porn is giving way to what I might call scenery guro.
Complete with blasted corpses not even finished burning yet.
This place was ground zero for a massive cataclysm, and it's still smoking.
Only one even seems to have any intact belongings, a helmet I've given to Cassandra for now.
I'm having trouble coming up with amusing commentary, is what I'm saying. This part is just not funny.

Wren is appropriately somber as they near the location of the Breach.
    [IMG] [IMG]
I'd make another Captain Obvious joke, but he has a point. How am I going to get near it? Do we have a catapult? Comically huge ladders?
We have Leliana and some of her soldiers!
...and now we no longer do; she nods wordlessly and takes them away to do the thing.
Apart from the fact that it's way too early in the game for this to possibly work? Well...
    Are we?

I'd already picked by the time I saw you, @garden , sorry.

    [IMG] [IMG]
"This rift" being a large one in a much more reasonable location down in what may, before it became a smoking ruin, have been some kind of courtyard.
    [IMG] [IMG]
What, you mean you don't want me to just jump the railing right here? Spoilsport.

While we're looking, the world gets brighter and more desaturated for a moment:
Followed by a deep, booming, echoey voice with no obvious source talking about victory. This has never led to anything bad in the entire history of Weird Shit.
Oh good, there's a sacrifice too! (The dude with the arrows is one of Leliana's, keeping the rift area covered.)

I jumped that railing when I played it for the first time! And totally missed the booming-voice dialog.

@bluefox You can do that? It didn't even occur to me to try!

Sunshine and fucking rainbows, Cass, that's what.
    [IMG] [IMG]
That glowing stuff there looks really red... is that what I think it is?
    [IMG] [IMG]
Yes it is. Better and better.
    [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]
For more on red lyrium and why Varric in particular is so NOPE about it, keep watching the DA2 thread! (...it may take a while.)

You can! You can jump into a lot of inadvisable places in DA:I. If you jump somewhere actively lethal or where you can't get back from, they'll skip you back, but you can jump ... off mountains and balconies and so on. :D My favorite thing about Inquisition... was flash stepping fade stepping off high things.
