Maybe building radios could be a thing we start doing once everyone gets organized into a community and probably starts exploring stuff.

    sounds good!
but that still leaves the question of how we get everyone together....
and also how many doggos we can accumulate on the way there.

............................are showers going to be a thing in this apocalypse?

Solar showers are a thing. They're basically just a big black bag with a hose attached.

hmmm. well. works for me. as long as I can shower it's all good.

Of course, getting fresh water might be an issue. And there's still the issue of how we're going to get everyone together.

    true.....
but look, if I'm gonna be around people, I have to be clean. it's a thing.
.....can you bathe in salt water? or is that a no?

You'd get salt in your hair and on your skin.

Maybe the shard we're on moves and eventually crashes into the big shard where most other kintsugijin are? Which could have a lake or something.

It's gonna be Complicated, yeah. Hm - lemme google how to desalinate water real quick, maybe it's viable for us to do that ourselves?

Okay, according to http://water.usgs.gov/edu/drinkseawater.html it's possible to do desalination with a solar still - from the diagram they've got, I bet we could rig one up with clear plastic bottles and some plastic sheeting, maybe add in some tinfoil too. But a lake would be a much better, more easily-accessed source of water, yeah; it would take A While to get enough water to even cook with, from the looks of it, via solar still - much less enough to bathe with.

I do know how to make a solar still. But yeah, it takes a while. Lake is a good idea, but we're still gonna need to boil the water.

Agreed - being stinky and sweaty is gonna feed the brain-weasels for a lot of us, I think, and that's before we take into account stuff like drinking water and watering plants.

well, for drinking and stuff, yes, but my primary concern is showering.
    .......I have my priorities straight.

Depending on how clean it is, just swimming into the lake might even work.
Also, solar ovens are a thing, so we might not need to burn stuff.

Oh, definitely, yeah - but tbh, we'd need to do that eventually anyways, I feel like? And I've lived in a region which routinely gets boil-water orders during the spring, so I suspect I was automatically going "well, of course we're boiling the water before we drink it" because that's a particular brainweasel of mine.

Re: solar ovens - it's definitely a good idea for times when we've got a lot of sun! If we're doing seasonal changes and having snowy winters be a thing, we're gonna need burnables eventually, though. Does the magic maintain the normal biome and seasonal changes for the chunks? It'd be cool if it did - going from an area that's wintery to one that's transitioning into spring or summer would be neat! And if we can chain chunks together with bridges, it'd become possible to have at least one area that's always got a garden going, if each chunk has its own distinct seasons and biomes. (Caveat: I might not be able to actually use these bridges myself; I've got a pretty deep-set fear of heights. But I can definitely help plan and make the materials for them and possibly build them!)

You'd be surprised how efficient those are, actually.
Seconding the seasons thing, but I just realized: if we're making bridges, will they have atmospheres? I'm kinda thinking we should have an atmosphere everywhere except for the upper layers which would have moon-shards.
