He smiles slightly, eyes dark. "... and don't let her hear you call me that."

 

"....r...right. okay."

 

He reaches up to untie his hair, covering the fresh wound. "... Let's go."

 

Scott and Abigail grab their things.

 

He leads them out, trying to maintain a facade of steadiness as they go. "... You'll be fine. Don't worry about it."

 

"I know we'll be fine, we're not toeing the party line, we're standing five feet back and trying to be invisible. What the hell about you?" Sakach bursts out as they finally reach the safety of the parking lot.

 

Yosef flinches, looking back at him. "... I'll be fine."

They've never seen him looking rattled like this before. And they've definitely never heard him screaming.

 

He glances at Abigail, then back to Yosef. "...fine. one vehicle, or carpool?"

 

"Are you planning to come back afterward?"

"We're putting things in storage. It won't take long."

 

"...frankly speaking? I'm not planning to be back until Monday."

 

"Then take your car. I'll text you the address."

 

Abigail hesitates as Scott peels away, shoving his hands into the pockets of his coat.

 

"... What is it, Fillar?"

 

".. are you coming back to the office after?"

 

He hesitates. "... I haven't decided."

There's a part of him that very much doesn't want to be alone with Douglas.

 

"....is it okay if I ride with you?" She hesitates, cleans her glasses nervously with the hem of her shirt.

 

He watches her for a few seconds, eyes dark. "... Yes."

"... You can ask what she did," he says quietly, as they walk.

 

".. thank you," she smiles slightly, walking close, almost close enough to touch, but respecting that last bit of distance.

"...do you want me to ask?" She whispers quietly.

 

He hesitates. "... No. But you ... deserve to know."

He unlocks the car, sitting down in the driver's seat. It's a battered old Civic, obviously chosen because it was convenient and cheap more than anything.

 

She slides into the passenger seat, buckling herself in. "...she didn't use anesthetic, whatever it was, did she?"
