Me; What a complex character! She's a challenge to the model of "moral monarchy" we usually see in these games, and although she's made mistakes she is trying her best to make real change in a literally stagnant world. Most of the other main characters are almost entirely reactionary, and I love characters who know feel well that the acts that they are committing are evil and are dedicated to being a "necessary evil". She's definitely done Things Wrong but the game does a good job of showing each character has their flaws and really portraying why she feels her methods are necessary and the circumstances that are forcing her hand.

Claude is....less dramatically flawed then Dimitri and Edelgard, tru, but he is still ruling nobility (TWICE THE FUCK OVER) letting other ppl die for him in a conflict that, on every route but his own, he doesn't rlly care about aside from some curiosity. He fucks off as soon as the going gets tough because he has that luxury. And yeah why should he care about Fodlan when its shitty and racist towards him, but he's still involved in this conflict and still taking lives when he has no real personal stake in the conflict

The Three Houses discourse is. Painful. I've seen bits of it but it's really not filling me with confidence to like go out there and talk to people. I'll probably just make fanfic centering around the Black Eagles and such in private and not join in on talking about things since Edelgard's hatedom is extremely fucking fierce. And I do get why in a fashion. What she does is morally questionable and the character herself brings up concerns with that quite a bit. It's part of why I'm as fond of her as I am. She's a very different hero than this franchise has tended to have. She's not all neat and perfect and oh she's one of the good nobles. She's messy and her life's been fucked up and some of her methods are kind of shitty by the very nature of the fact that it's war. These are things that make Edelgard one of the best lords we've had in the series. Edelgard has flaws! With consequences! And not just 'Oh, you. You're so rude sometimes! But otherwise you're perfectly clean and nice and do nothing wrong!'

I also find the hatred towards Edelgard to be...disconcerting in how disproportionate it is? Dimitri does Some Real Fucking Shit but it's the queer female character that is getting the massive swaths of hate. I've seen Dimitri haters definitely but Dimitri fans generally seem to be able to mention that they like their character and there's a very loud portion of the fanbase that has declared his the best route because it has the best writing since he has a redemption arc. Edelgard's definitely got stalwart fans but it's really hard to mention her without the Hitler comparisons coming up and so many of the memes in the fanbase right now are Edelgard's a nazi memes with the occasional meme about stupid extremist leftists being awful people.

It is extremely funny to me that the climax is basically "congratulations! You solved god!"

 

Shifting around which character is inherently and uncompromisingly evil does not actually introduce nuance into the storh

 

On another note Verstael going all evil hand gestures while excitedly explaining what is essentially pretty benign (cloned meat) and Ardyn cutting him off with "I have NO INTEREST in the ravings of a LUNATIC" was fucking hilarious tbh

 

Verstael is p transparently speaking at the bottom of his range and then some so "he spunds like Prompto and is just trying to seem more serious" but I would like to consider "Prompto has a naturally evil voice and tries his best to sound harmless"

 

This has literally decreased the level of sympathy i have for ardyn by replacing two thousand years of suffering with a nap and manpain

 

Tbh i am more sympathetic to Somnus bc his brother wandered around fucking his sonic 06 level gf and having a saviour complex while somnus, like, ran the kingdom

 

THERE IS SO MUCH EVIL LAUGHTER. I NEED YOU TO UNDERSTAND THAT PEOPLE DONT JUST CACKLE EVILLY TO MAKE SURE WE KNOW THE CRYING ONE IS THE GOOD GUY
