Unrelated but- I apparently can piece together Portuguese in my head decently.

Because as a friend of mine said: Spanish and Portuguese sound like the other spoken under water.

(Also why the hell did English knock off the first syllables of Hispania? Or Espania I guess??)

Ooh, are Brazilian empadas the same as or similar to Argentinian empanadas? Because my dad works with someone from Argentina who keeps giving him empanada recipes to try. They even gave him and empanada press to make the pastry! They're really tasty, you've just gotta roll the pastry thin enough 'cause sometimes Dad makes them too thick and it's a bit too doughy.

@a tiny mushroom Not really! They're different dishes. They're both savory pastries, but their shape is different and Brazilian empadas have a crustier dough.

Ooh one day when I have the tools again (I'm living with my boyfriend temporarily and his kitchen is deserted) I'll make coxinha, empadas and croquete just so I can test recipes to share :p

Brazilian empadas are a lot like mini savory pies, actually!! at least the butter crust I made for apple pie tastes like a sugary version of empadinha crust. And in shape, too, with the layer of crust on top. I think you can make a decent substitute w savory pie crust, shredded chicken +cream cheese + a bit of chopped olives, and a small muffin pan.
