i feel like at this point my excitement for the game has plateaued. i don't care about trailers, i don't give a fuck about updates or sneak peeks. i don't even care about news/ETAs anymore, it's been so long that i just dont give a fuck about any of it until the game is actually released
I know enough of the artists on the team who've been working on it personally (at least to the point of being skype contacts and occasionally chatting) and I know how much time and effort they have put into this to bring it this far. I'm talking they will be vanished for week or months at a time and only pop back up to blink wearily at the daylight and confirm they are still alive before diving back into the thick to bust ass and get everything DONE, so I get hype whenever we get a new update. I know what went into that one update. I know the blood, sweat, and tears that have been sacrificed to make it what it is, and I know how many of them are still putting in everything they've got to make sure it's perfect. So yeah, I'm gonna be hype and celebrate with them, for them, and I will wait patiently for it to be ready, because by GOD everyone on that team deserves a back pat and at least a 6 month nap at this point.
god i wish the game was released back when i was in the height of my homestuck love... i feel like i was (much much much) younger when i donated all the money i had at the time to that kickstarter. i do have a bit of buyer's remorse. i respect the artists, but feel frustrated with hussie, if that makes sense haha. i think the artists involved deserve applause.
i definitely respect the artists involved! i was just kind of grousing about how at this point trailers no longer excite me and i don't even want to know what the ETA is because it feels like it'll be inevitably moved again ...but then, i also tend to get irritated with trailers for movies/tv shows past the first like two trailers because like, i'm already going to see the movie in a few months, i don't need or want More Information that could Spoil the Movie so like, no disrespect meant to the artists involved, and i will be excited to play hiveswap when it comes out! i was just feeling grouchy, don't mind me :p
That's how I am with trailers and such too, really. Everyone's all hype about the new Episode 8 trailer and I am just annoyed. I don't care. I am going to see it anyway. So when the Hiveswap trailer came out I was like EH.
How much of it could they legally disclose though? Like if the whole Odd Gentlemen thing is true, are they still bound by the gag order after game release?
btw, as someone who stopped following homestuck a tiny bit before the end... how badly did the end of tavros' arc pan out
It was extremely lampshaded. He left the ship, refusing to let Vriska keep pushing him around, seemingly leaving the story forever. But he did turn back up, at a point to solve a problem no one else bothered to solve ahead of time, and literally danced with how much he strutted in Vriska's face. It ended being a thing of finding the self confidence and kindness to help, for his own reasons, in his own method, and prove once and for all he had worth. One of the dance panels outright called it a successful character arc, giving me the impression of Hussie saying "yeah I know it's not really, but it's what Tavros wanted and thought of as one." Spoiler: How Tavros' arc turned out So John's arc with Terezi and passwords waa for the sake of Living Plot Device Vriska, of saving her so she could push the meteor crew into a facsimile of game character functionality, enough to wrap up the final fight scenes that she said were important. Ship!Vriska, who recovered the juju after Tavros quitting and Aranea revealing her true intentions, ended up chilling and being much more person-like, rather than story protagonist-like. She dated Meenah for a while, thinking herself content, but... Retcon!Vriska showed up to insult her, take the juju, and ultimately remind Meenah that she too wanted to do flashy cool things relevant to the story. Retcon!Vriska and Meenah went out to where the fight vs Lord English would happen, wondering along the way how they could win it, and how they could go about getting back the army Aranea had controlled. Cue Tavros. Standing at their destination. Heading a massive army of the dead. Where Vriska had used mind control and insults and violence, Tavros went around taking to people and convincing them. A beautiful take that of how completely needless some of her methods are, a validation that his can work. After he finishes bragging, he cheerfully lets Meenah literally walk all over him and take command of the army. There's a shot in Remem8er Me of Vriska laughing with an arm over his shoulder, him grinning also... And then they fight Lord English, in a fight that ultimately just feels like a way of distracting the bigbad while the remaining living characters fuck out of the universe again... and the ghosts probably all double die. Some kind of emotional resolution, but not one they get to live with and enjoy.
Spoiler: more Tavros stuff In addition to the stuff above, post-retcon Tavros meanwhile got stuffed into a sprite, but this time (at least to start) just on his own, so he hung around the alpha kid's session the whole time instead of getting Tavrisploded. After the groups meet back up, it turns out Vriska is just as terrible to him as ever (lots of insults and verbal denigration, etc). This culminates in her essentially tricking characters around into getting Tavrosprite second tier prototyped with the GCat first guardian from the post-Scratch universe, resulting in Gcatavrosprite, who is literally allergic to himself. He is then put to sleep through mind control, which is the last we see of him apart from one of the snapd8s where he's on Earth C in the universe the kids managed to create at the end. Edit: To explain a little more, prototyping Tavrosprite with GCat was meant to get GCat out of the way of the final set of battles, since the Condesce had formerly used him to her benefit through the communion powers she developed while expanding her psychic abilities. That said, Vriska still didn't even bother to remember Tavros's allergy, and didn't seem to care much once it was brought up.
we were talking about this on Discord but if you had a Rise Up song, what would it be? i wound up going with Valhalla bc much as i love so much of the other songs, that one's really stuck in my head over time and odds are i'd be rising after something pretty dang intense into something else intense knowing my luck. edit: i keep trying to do the S thing but i guess that's a strikethrough command and idk how ot make it stop 8I oh well
