Y'know, I never liked the interpretation of "STOP PLAYING GAMES FOR GIRLS" meaning that female trolls were supposed to be more aggressive. Tavros is socially punished for NOT being aggressive in every single other circumstance, and Terezi and Vriska are killers and Nepeta's a hunter but the other girls are pretty mellow, and Equius is basically a sack of anger and stereotypical masculinity and Karkat's trying to be aggressive but how good he is at it is debatable, and Alternian society demonstrates that EVERY troll is expected to be aggressive. It doesn't even fit with it being written from a male human point of view, because both violence and LARPing are stereotypically male pursuits here. Personally, I think a) Karkat thinks he shouldn't be associating with the specific girls he's associating with and/or b) they're expected to aggress in a different way.

I always interpreted it as "trolls have some interests which are more 'gendered' interests than others and maybe Karkat puts more stock in that than other trolls possibly because he cares way too much about societal expectations because of his blood color, and LARPing is not a 'girl' interest because it's violent but just because, in the same way dolls are considered girl interests on Earth for kinda dumb historical and gender role reasons, it's a historical thing or something like that that girls have commonly been LARP players, but tbh it doesn't actually really matter all that much and was most likely just a throwaway comment from Karkat maybe because he didn't want to deal with Tavros at that point and didn't really care and maybe also buys into societal bullshit more than the others, and also while leg breaking or whatever might be concerning to US, this is Alternia and it might be that sometimes trolls just respond to that with 'well you shouldn't have been a dumb idiot then', and maybe LARPing is viewed as a more 'girl' interest because it's silly fantasy or something I don't really know but I honestly do not think it's 'girl trolls are expected to be more violent' although I do headcanon that it's a more 'girl' interest than others, but that the Alternia we see in Karkat's time and all doesn't actually put a whole lot of stock in that anymore, if they ever did to BEGIN with, and Karkat is maybe just more inclined to care than others because he's a little obsessed with toeing societal lines for....obvious reasons"
Question; what are the gaps in lifespan between each caste? Does it increase by a certain amount? Double? Was it ever said?
Word of Hussie, archived here: someone mathed it out here using word of god and references in canon; i think it’s notable that, assuming this is accurate, limebloods would have a human-length lifespan, which fits with karkat as the most humanlike troll.
But he just says right there that he's not declaring it canon, just thinking it out. There's still no solid answer one way or another. And even there he just says "bare minimum" or "reasonable lower bound", not even "average."
sooo i think mathing it out and treating Hussie's clearly not meant to be hard and fast canon answer there as indisuptable hard numbers is approaching things from the wrong direction?
not sure the original post was intended as 'hard guidelines', just general direction linking a post involving math doesn't mean we have to take those as hard canon or anything, it's just useful to have a link where a person's already done some math, imo and they did use ranges, so it's not like it's being treated like a hard canon thing even there, and they put '30' as the minimum for burgundy on that post that said there is a thing I wonder about, which is: the Condesce, from what I remember, canonically extended her life beyond what normal fuschias live to, I think so I'm sort of curious what a 'normal' fuschia upper bound would be

bugs are (on earth, at least, and i can’t imagine why it’d be different on alternia) a fast-growing source of protein without nearly as many resources required as other meat-based protein sources. i personally don’t headcanon my trolls as hating bugs, but i do think it would make sense if bugs are how the majority of the alternian population gets the protein they need, with red meat and fish especially being reserved for upper castes as a delicacy/luxury food. probably by having the cost raised so high most lowbloods couldn’t afford it except as a treat, since karkat did have chilled roe cubes for his lusus
Xefros at least seems to hate it; he's afraid to ask what's in grubloaf, and he drinks Grub Juice constantly but he says it tastes awful. I'd assume lusus food is somehow even worse than troll food.
