Imo its the fact that seeing a humanoid (trolloid?) person with no horns, fangs, claws, or grey skin would look to them as like, idk, a really really deformed person.

It doesn't really make sense to have only child jades looking after the literal only source of reproduction on the entire planet. Would you trust that to kids, especially if you have the same level of contempt for children that Alternian culture seems to? Personally I'm thinking they can go off-planet if their higher-blooded quadrants want them to; that would make more sense, since then they're available for pailing season. If only jades could breed with other jades because they were the only ones near each other at breeding time, that'd possibly screw up the jade genepool, and if Karkat is right about the cultural focus on Troll Serendipity there'd be allowances made for that. I'm thinking only higher-blooded quadrants get to make that request though, would make sense if the lows are shit outta luck.

Yeah, but it's mentioned that it matters how strong the original pairing's feelings were, for some reason (something something hormone production handwave) so presumably the genes start bonding in the first bucket before being mixed into the main slurry.
I kinda figured it was less bonding in the bucket and more that Strong Red/Black relationships produce dominant genes individually, which then get added into the slurry
As in like, a troll who is in a strong Red relationship will just produce more dominant genes in their genetic material, irrespective of their partner.
Either way, it's better for them if they have a wider range of potential partners to pick someone with high compatibility.
