thats absolutely what im thinking. it really reads not only very early to me, but so unpolished for what homestuck usually goes for that its just...it made my eyes glaze over for reasons beyond just the content. I feel like such a conspiracy theorist when i say stuff like this but its really like...my last hope which is also very dramatic but true

beyond all that this arg just feels sloppy. like, just giving us reams and reams of text that tells us basic info without actually being interesting is just. okay, but you could have done it more interestingly. why bother giving us an entirely new website and hiding this stuff if its just like a dry historical text.

at least it would have been visually interesting and more like an actual mystery to figure out if it was like. fake newspaper clippings? historical documents? pictures of historical scenes with condy shittily photoshopped in???

It's also OOC with established canon; wasn't it established that Condesce was disgusted by human sex and tried to forbid it, not that she went round engaging in it with every name-drop-able human she could find?

Also "Calamity" seems like a weird name for a cherub that's supposedly of the benevolent moiety, but I guess they do cause as much destruction as the bad ones do in their mating flights.

The thing contradicting the theory, that I want to believe, that this is ancient material is that it includes sections on Trump's election and the interference in it.

Yeah, but the fact it was tacked on undermines things and also doesn't, help. 'Cause whoever wrote it, even if it was written years ago, must have gone back over this and thought "I need to update this for the modern era. I know, I'll make jokes about Obama's birth certificate and add in that Trump is actually going to try to save democracy."

There's, a lot of dogwhistles in that thing.

It’s weird. It does read like Hussie - it’s really close to the tone in wizardy Herbert - but really early Hussie. On the other hand, it contains Trump references and I can’t believe he could have predicted that.

But there’s apparently this annotation in one of the books so maybe the bulk of it has written for a while.

But why post it now? Hussie got a lot better at sensitive topics over the course of Homestuck. He knows who his audience is and must have known how they’d react to finding out that, for instance, grandpa Harley was behind the nazis getting into power. Even the note from the book sounds like he knows exactly how bad it is.

So why make it the focus of an ARG? He could have just but the shitty wizard pictures up and had everyone picking them over for hidden clues for weeks.

so it's confirmed that it's a Hussie Original, but also ACKNOWLEDGED that it's shitty and not something that he thought would be a good idea to make public.

Well that answers... some questions, and leaves some others approximately the same.

Is it possible that someone other than Hussie got ahold of his writing, added the Trump etc. stuff, and made it all into an arg?

yeah, that's my current top theory. i'm now bumping that probability up to 75%, since we seem to have eliminated the options of "it's not actually Hussie's writing" and "Hussie thought it was a genuinely good idea to include."

I hope the backlash doesn't result in Hiveswap being dropped. I still want to find out what happens. Is that bad?

Idk "it fits Hussie's very early style" is not exactly a dead ringer for "yes Hussie definitely wrote this" because his early style isn't exactly hard to replicate: it was the exact same style as every other lolRandom edgy humor that was popular on the SP forums during that time period. The note in the book is very vague: any story with Condy in history would fit the bill. There has been no official statement from Hussie, VIZ, or the Hiveswap/Friendsim team, and when they fuck up, they're usually fastto be responsive.

Nothing about this has anything authentic or for certain in it. I get kind of twitchy at people taking inferences and assumptions as hard facts.

A well worded apology as well. Though I must say I'm disappointed Hussie learned nothing from the "peachy/caucasion" incident.

Hussie, stay away from satire, you suck at it.

I'm not sure I believe him, either. Considering the content of the Friendsims and the dog blowjob SBaHJ, it's not like he's ever refrained from offensive humour before.

    Do apologies need signatures?

I'd think they do, half the time. Otherwise someone who did fault could have any rando apologize noises for them and get the credit of having done an apology themselves.

eta: mostly i want to know Who Specifically Did The Thing, and i want to know that That Specific Person is the one apologizing.

A signature on the internet isn´t going to prevent that in any way.
