I really liked the retcon stuff, at least as a storytelling device. This is a story about telling stories and a story about time-travel. It's a story about a game where you can only win by cheating. As a narrative move, as a thematic move, yeah, your mileage may vary, but as a metanarrative move? A+. Homestuck is not Hussie telling a story about a bunch of kids. Homestuck is Hussie telling a story about Hussie telling a story about a bunch of kids, and Hussie is cheating.
