I only have your words to go off of! Phrasing like, "I don't think it's fair to say it doesn't fit with the rest of Homestuck just because it doesn't live up to your personal expectations." and "It's not about thinking hard, it's about time. Approach, not effort." come off as very judgmental.
I'm doing my emotionless thing to avoid escalating a conversation. Cop out has too much attached to it. I'm frustrated with the ending because I'm struggling to get it, and when I think of the forums disappearing and the What Pumpkin people saying jack shit about what happened, it's easy for me to go "and in the same pattern, Hussie did a cool-looking ending that didn't incorporate the way the characters have changed since four years ago, and so it looks like he rushed to erase those changes rather than bury himself deeper in the hole of Homestuck."
Ah, fair enough. I see what you mean. I mostly meant that I don't think it's people having trouble understanding what's implied to go in the gaps, but people who do understand and are still dissatisfied.
To put it in a simile which the name of Kintsugi reminded me of; there is breaking something and putting the pieces back together in a new way, and then there's just smashing something for fun.
i dunno, i think he tried to make something new but just kind of... gave up. he wanted to be done, and i think it's admirable for him to have finished something he probably got tired of a while ago.
Okay I think I've calmed myself down a bit. In a sense yes, it's a judgement. I'm not saying you're wrong for not liking it or being dissatisfied, it's that Homestuck is super complicated and so much of the story only got unrolled collectively. It seems like most of the discomfort with the ending comes from it not being immediately obvious what everything means and how everything ties together. And I get being frustrated with that, I don't think that's a bad or wrong way to react or shit like that, and I don't think that if we plot it all out together it'll be fabulous either, but it seems like people are attempting to poke holes in something they just don't understand yet. I'm not saying I understand it either, but I do think an extended analysis is worth it, not just for my own personal satisfaction but for what it might bring to light for others. Homestuck is a big fandom. Neither you nor I have to do all the heavy lifting. But I do find the chance to be a part of that exciting.
It sounds like you're saying, we're being very quick to say that the ending doesn't work, because fandom as a whole hasn't worked together to connect all the pieces like we did for some of the previous updates?
Also, I'm still annoyed at how Jack Noir, who murdered his way through a shitton of people including Rose and John's parents, AR, WQ, WK, and nearly WV, gets to live, while Spades Slick, who really didn't seriously (for a given value of 'stabs are his way of saying hello' sort of seriously) didn't try and kill anyone who didn't try to kill him first, gets his head cut off. Hell, if Karkat is supposed to be the pacifist route or whatever, who doesn't solve problems by fighting, then why the fuck couldn't he have shown up at the rooftop battle and convinced Spades Slick to help them? Instead he did fuckall and was entirely pointless! Then, he could've had gotten some resolution for feeling betrayed by Slick back when Jack Noir attacked them, he could've contributed to the fight in some way other than being a warrior, it'd even tie into the theories about what Blood is even ABOUT. (eta: Collide does not count for 'he didn't try to attack anyone' because he was very clearly focusing on Jack English and then the other kids started strifing him for no reason. He didn't try shooting at them until after they'd attacked him.)
i still wanna know about that other sburb session with dadbert's friend. never forget the Gent of Piss.
I would like to see something like the Squiddles playing the Game, making Alternia, and becoming the horrorterrors.
Okay, what things would people here have done to fix it? My immediate thoughts; -Gamzee, Aranea, and alt-Vriska, in that order of importance with Gamzee way ahead, have to be involved somehow even if it's a tiny thing, and we have to find out at least something with regards to what the hell is up with Gamzee. -Compress down the length of Dave and Dirk sitting and talking about their lives and maybe move at least part of it to after the final battle. All the same info can be got across and the same heartwarming moments, just at a more opportune time; added tension if one can get across that they want to say something important but haven't got time. -Lord English shows up significantly earlier. -Some of the ghost army try to flee when it comes to the crunch. I don't think all of those thousands of ghosts would be that keen to stop existing when put on the spot, and again, tension. -New sprites do something important other than bouncing around spewing irrelevant information. -I don't think it's necessarily bad that Bec Noir lived, but making some more of Jade taking the peaceful route and possibly making more of Slick's death would have been nice.
Have something showing that the GO timeline was not so much wasted space, have them all remember being those people and then dealing with that, have Remem8er have some kind of significance or impact instead of being very pretty with nice music and nothing else, throw in some kind of twist with the weapon or Vriska's plan so that she isn't rewarded and proven right for being the worst person, let Karkat DO SOMETHING...
With the stuff of Davepta saying "hey, i remember all the timelines, and there is no single true me" stuff, I really thought Remem8er me was going to lead into the living crew getting the memories of all their dead selves. That would've mitigated the effects of Vriska's... wholesome presence... enough for various characters' actions in the end to flow for me.
if you couldn't tell already, i am going through hussie's formspring archives and i keep finding neat stuff.
