I watched it yesterday and I'm still flapping and yelling incoherently about it 24 hours later. There are just so many aspects of it that I love, like, their vehicles and weapons and allll the 'action sequences' or whatever! The Wives and Nux! The interaction between Furiosa and Max! The worldbuilding! The pacing! All the things! I already made plans to watch it again with a friend next week :D It will be even better this time, knowing that it is actual explosions and people on poles on moving vehicles :D :D :D :D :D
But what I really want to talk about is the fact that they drink BREAST MILK. I find this incredibly gross but at the same time brilliant. It's so taboo and it makes me cringe and that is what makes it so cool.
This is true. Many nomadic pastoralists in arid regions actually do herd goats, one of the reasons of which being the above. Does anybody mind if I link wikipedia Im too lazy to get anything else (right now anyway)
Of course goats also lend to desertifaction which is A PROBLEM IN THE MAD MAX WORLD I guess, so I suppose herdable animals are out in general? Then again we don't really see much past uh, Australia.
yes but it would be a lot less squicky, and since we're inventing the goats anyway we can probably invent a way to mask the taste #i dug this hole and now i'm going to sit in it
Thinking back to it, Max was pretty quiet for most of the movie, but I can't really see where he could have had more lines that wouldn't have just been some variations of "aw, fuck."
so it looks like they'll just have to keep drinking breast milk for a while? and then in the future, when they have secured other food sources, it'll have become a culturally accepted thing so nooone even considers stopping and instead there'll be stuff like gourmet breastmilk cheese and breastmilk yoghurt
I just want to say, I really appreciate the awesome interesting motorcycle grannies. There are so few stories that have older women in them , let alone older women getting to do things and have adventures and be interesting characters with their own lives, and it's just like... I spent so long without any stories with me in them at all, so long with nothing to tell me I could be my own protagonist and give me examples of how I might do that, and then I found stories to tell me I could be a girl after all, could be a woman after all... but almost all of them told me I had to be young. And I'm not really young any more, for all that I still think of myself as a girl, I'm freaking middle aged here and still completely lost, and it was really getting kind of hard at times, when all the images you're shown of How To Be A Person include Be Under Thirty. And then the Vuvalini come along, and you can just /tell/, for all the shit they've been through, for all their hardships, they are /still having fun being themselves/. And that's kind of really super important to me right now.
But guys, please consider how breastmilk is made. There was a pretty good meta/idea about how they are producing breastmilk by essentially looking at dead babies, because seeing babies helps to produce it. Based off a second long panning of the camera in the movie, so no idea how accurate, but.
