20 days later I finally have reliable internet on my temporary box. Dang, things have really changed! I have no idea what to do with myself!
Alright so something not so great happened. I summoned the wither and then immediately my connection started bombing out so I couldn't kill him, then he killed me (after wiping out a bunch of my horses) and then I got kicked out of the game. It might still be running around fucking shit up? I don't know. ;3; Edit: it looks like I don't start lagging until the thing is around, then it's basically like I've got no chance of hitting it let alone beating the fucking thing. UGH. Edit2: Alright resetting the router seems to have made my connection stop sucking, he's dead. I'm sorry to anyone whose stuff he might have fucked up. He seemed to be idling around what I think is @vegacoyote 's place, but I'm not sure anything there was affected? LMK if it was, I'll try and replace what I can.
Dang, that sucks. I think mob griefing is still off, though, so it might not be too bad? Fingers crossed...
so my next Big Project, i think, is going to be THE AGRICULTURAL SCIENCE CENTER!!! where i will archive examples of each plant, animal, and insect in the world! i'm super excited about this! but the thing is, it's going to take a LOT of space. like, even if i don't grow full size trees of every type, just having a display of saplings in item frames, wood, planks, and fruit, plus filing cabinets full of genetic samples and suchlike, will take up a bunch of space. and i would really like to have all the vegetables and flowers growing where people can look at them. so before i pick a spot, i figure i should really ask: are there any big land areas in the 'outer suburbs' from spawn, with a friendly biome (i.e. middling temperature and humidity), not too rocky, which i should NOT choose for my project? how should i tell if an area is claimed? i know at least one person is doing a sort of nature-preserve home, where it's hard to tell it's settled, so i feel it's probably not enough for me to just look for houses/farms. note that the ag center will not require much underground space; some trees have roots that go down half a dozen blocks or so, and i'll probably want one level of basement for storing supplies, but that's it. so if you're mining UNDER a certain area, we wouldn't be in conflict.

k i didn't know where a good place to stick them would be so i put the saplings in the cookie chest in the cafe (which is probs silly but i'm not connected to the ender chest system thing yet and this seemed less awkward than haphazardly poking around your base :P).
once I've gotten some more resources and a stable home base I can contribute some of the aquatic plants I've been finding. Is a bed the only way to set your respawn? I've settled pretty far from the capital and I don't want to die and lose my lovely deep ocean village and its dumb squidwards.
there are two map addons loaded, mapwriter and journeymap (default 'm' and 'j' i believe, at least that's what i have them set to and i don't remember remapping the keys). both allow you to set markers so you can find things again. you can teleport to these markers if you have teleport privs. idk if teleporting is enabled for everyone, or just for me? i asked seebs to let me teleport because i get claustrophobic and can't go underground if i can't instantly get out, or i panic. it would be seebsish to have simply enabled it for everyone out of fairness, but i have never actually asked.
i think i tried to teleport at one point and was denied? so i believe it is not enabled for everyone. but i'm not sure.
in the nether, tho i don't know precisely where the portal is. or you can go to desert biomes and look for cinder pearls, they're little flowers that are on fire. they can be made into blaze powder.
If you head to Avalon's base, he has a set of spawners in the basement. I think he left instructions, too. You'd be welcome to use them.
Update: I have uploaded a new version of the launcher which may correct problems with performance, especially pathologically bad performance that was coupled with the launcher window dying.
a hey jack i got you a raven, it's in a net in my outside-box under the overhang by the trapdoor ugh nevermind i will deliver the net at some point but anyway i am planning on catching a bunch of happy little birds from the Twilight Forest as soon as i get more nets, do you want some? and how do contain for display?
yay! oh man but i am so very far from being able to do live animal displays. i'll have to name tag them so they don't de-spawn, and i'm thinking maybe a glass enclosure with an ethereal glass door so people can go in and out but they can't? idk, maybe i should leave the zoo part to other folks; i think @rainbowbarnacle was interested in that? i love those little birds so much tho. anyway, i don't even have a building yet. :P
