Your 5:25 am Crossover AUs: Godeater AU: Wei Wuxian becomes/is a god. Stuff Happens. Kencyr Chronicles AU: (obscure fandoms go) Slight bunny for this one. Basicallly, somehow Jame is at the Burial Mounds. Story differs depending on age but Jame creeping out various characters would feature. (I see her doing the accidental mindlink because jame is a disaster.) Also, color coordination since they both have silver eyes. Hidden Almanac AU: I'm Actually doing this one. Wei Ying raised by others AU featuring Reverend Mord and Pastor Drom Boat Trolls AU: (j/k) New crew members? Homestuck AU: Either a Game AU or a Non Game AU. They Have Quadrants AU: in which some things are more amicable because foe yay and rivalry. And other things are more complicated because Wei Wuxian STILL can't tell if Lan Wangji likes him.
(me, in the corner, sighing heavily at my reincarnation AU relationships chart, which can be briefly summarized as "Nie Huaisang looks on in horror as he realizes that Wei Wuxian and Mo Xuanyu are moirails now and it's all his fault")
(Now all I can think of is a somewhat perturbed Wen Ning dealing with the kind of people who think spades with the Ghost General is an idea to pursue.)
I have also put an unfortunate amount of thought into "NHS really strongly illustrates the difference between platonic and romantic hatred, because he wants JGY to suffer and die in that order, but in a deeply personalized way that most trolls/etc would mistake for caliginous attraction. However an actual true caliginous relationship very specifically involves not crossing unforgivable lines, which JGY very much did do."
Another early morning crossover: Dragonriders of Pern. The initial image that came to mind is the first book, Dragonflight and Lessa doing her best to be a one girl rebellion. And how the only creature she trusts is the watch wher. And I immediately thought: what if Meng Yao was reincarnated as that watch wher? This was immediately followed by giggling. As an alternative: Meng Yao somehow transmigrating/appearing around the time Fax invades Ruatha. And suddenly things get a lot scarier for the invaders!
my kingdom for fic and other fanworks where mxy is portrayed as the mid-to-late 20s traumatized human he is instead of being weirdly infantalized and reading like a teenager, honestly. like I've seen a few works where he somehow survives The Ritual but none of them really give the impression that like. he's actually older than WWX was when he died. where is my fic where mo xuanyu is the adult in this relationship trying to corral the all-over-the-place genius with no sense of "maybe I shouldn't get involved in this."
Oh, speaking of mo xuanyu, I think I completely forgot to crosspost this fic on here. A friend got a ship ask meme question about mo xuanyu/nie huaisang, and I was really curious to see if I could get it to click for me, and I apparently cannot stop riffing on the nhs-sacrifice-ritual-two idea for love or money, so! I'm off in aus of my own aus now mxy/nhs, 2.8k, pre-canon, sfw, and a big old warning for this thing being extremely about a suicide pact
my sibling and I finished watching quite some time ago, but: Spoiler my absolute favourite part of watching it with them was how they, upon seeing meng yao, IMMEDIATELY declared him to be their baby, & was so hype everytime he was on screen, and then, once his evildoings were revealed, concluded they needed a backup baby... and went for nie huisang. "here's my new unproblematic son," they tell me. "he just wants to do art and be left alone. look at him minding his own business. i love him." not gonna lie it was a bit of a challenge to keep a straight face
I’m reading MDZS for the Asian Readathon in the month of May! I’ve been meaning to do it anyway, having loved the show and also loved SVSSS. Now I’ve finally gotten myself moving. Spoiler The romance tropes are much more obvious in the book, and it’s hilarious. Lan Wangji: He came back. He’s playing our song! ;-;;; Wei Wuxian: He’s not rejecting my outrageous advances, so the solution is to flirt even harder until he finally gives up in disgust. That’s totally how this works. Everyone else is just going, soooo exactly how wtf are we allowed to admit to being about Lan Wangji and a disgraced crazy aggressively gay necromancer he literally just met, because that’s a lot??? Except for Jiang Cheng, who is having a personal meltdown, and Lan Xichen, who is pleased as punch.
Xichen is just glad to see his baby brother so happy :) (and also so happy to watch the chaos, because he is secretly a gremlin) Also I realized the other day that at least in cql, A-Qing fits the final girl trope if we consider yi city a horror arc
Hey, if I may ask a question to the residents of this thread: is the donghua adaptation any good? I've been wanting to get into MDZS ever since it got So Incredibly Popular (although I realize that I'm probably too late to jump on that same hype train at this point...), but I only really heard about the live-action adaptation, and I don't watch live-action series (because I'm faceblind enough to really hate being asked to distinguish between different human faces just so I can follow a plot). But...I watch animated shows all the time. And I literally just learned that there's an animated adaptation of MDZS like, two minutes ago. ...If it isn't good then I'll probably just eventually read the novel, but an animated series divided into roughly TV-length episodes would be easier to work into my current free time routine.
I haven't watched the donghua but I have heard good things about it! They can get away with a bit more explicit necromancy, which is fun.
It's pretty good, I haven't finished the book yet but so far it seems like a pretty close adaptation. It's definitely fun to watch, and it shows the scale and grandness of the cultivation world a lot better than cql could on its budget.
