"Oh. Okay." She nods solemnly. "I'll make him help me with my homework?"

 

"Sure. As soon as you guys get back from the doctor." He reminds her. This kid seems determined to skip over that part, and Gabe is not letting her.

 

She slumps unhappily. "... okay."

 

Gabe leads her back to Nick "You two behave, I have some rounds to make."

 

She nods, clinging close to Nick again. "... do you, um... Oh."

Homework doesn't matter anymore, does it?

"... um... Why do shartha happen?"

She's getting better at the pronunciation. Slowly.

 

Nick gives Gabe a look that screams 'help, I don't know what to do'.

 

Gabe shrugs " That's your department, not mine." he puts on his hat and strides away from them "I just handle the bad people."

 

"...yessir," Nick mumbles. "...Elena, can we... talk about something else, for awhile?"

 

She nods vigorously. "... I don't know what to talk about?"

 

"...movies you and Miri can watch?" He hazards, scooping her carefully into his arms and hugging her close.

 

"Uhhuh." She buries her face in Nick's shoulder. "... action movies with a lot of cute girls? ... And boys, I guess?"

 

He nods, quietly heading out. "Fury Road?"

 

She blinks slowly. Then beams. "... are there awesome ladies with guns? They get guns, right?"

 

He nods. "Yeah. And big trucks. .... maybe the new Ghostbusters, too?"

 

"... Yeah! Are there really lesbians in it?" She clings happily as they go.

 

"Maybe?" Nick blinks. "Haven't seen it, yet."

 

"... awesome." She bounces. "Can we have movie money? Will you drive us to a movie?"

 

"...yeah. Of course," He smiles.

 

She beams, leaning into him. "Um... Are we almost there?"

 

"Yeah, here's the car... just gonna stop by the doctor, like Gabe said, okay?"
