Spoiler Had a week off work, so new polish time! I actually didn't read the bottle very closely on this one, and was real surprised when it smelled like mint. Apparently adding perfume oils to nail polish is a thing? The scent held for about 3 days, not too strong but enough to keep "nailpolish smell" from bothering me the first night while it set. Didn't bother with a fancy topcoat this time, and the glitter was part of the polish-- Revlon Parfumerie #040, "Wintermint".
I started painting my nails recently for. Some. reason. They're not very impressive and the lighting on webcams is abysmal by default but... Spoiler: nails and also my face I bought this polish from Claire's, hah, cos they had a sale on and a bunch of polish for a pound... It actually had some sparkle polish (...Hello Kitty brand 'Glitterball'...) over the top but it doesn't show up. These polishes came out of the staff box at the Oxfam shop I volunteer at, hah, which is where all the stuff they can't sell but isn't junk gets put to be taken for basically free. The basecoat looks sort of orange in this pic but was in fact a wonderfully offensive shade of pink. The stuff on the tips was sparkly silver/vaguely purple, and WOULD NOT DRY JESUS CHRIST it was still ever so slightly tacky when I gave up and put the topcoat on. That polish came off yesterday and I'm wondering what to replace it with. Probably one of the Hello Kitty brand pinks. They're water-based so they need like three coats and a topcoat or they don't show up and peel off if you look at them funny, but they're really cute colours nonetheless.
@Ink I used masking tape. Make sure the first layer of polish is completely dry, stick down the tape, paint the tips and then peel the tape away immediately. There are specific nail art tapes you can buy but I'm way too lazy to bother with anything that fancy.
Anybody got ideas for what I could do on my nails? I want to do them, but I not sure what... My hands are the purple and red painted ones, like 6 posts up.
Recently rediscovered my love for false nails. I will never be able to get mine this neat with regular polish. Spoiler: Matte black, filed to manageable length
So, this stuff has actually flaked off already because work is horrible for nailpolish, but... Spoiler I did these on... Friday or so? Because I had off and wanted to try out a new polish. (Hard Candy "Crush On Lava" if anyone's interested-- this photo actually does a reasonable job of showing off the iridescence without losing the proper colors, though the red tones do go darker than shown here.) I think if I didn't work with my hands all day every day, it might've lasted longer, but here I am, opening a million boxes... At least it looked cool while I had it.
First time in months that I have literally anything to post to this thread. Behold, my first attempt at the gradient sponge method (also, a glitter coat). Spoiler
No work 'til Tuesday, so new glitter! Spoiler The orange is actually a bit brighter than this picture shows, but this was the closest I got to true-color for the copper tips. OPI NLH68 "Is Mai Tai Crooked?", tipped with Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear #485 "Golden-I". Why it's called golden when the actual paint is copper confuses me ._.
OKAY HERE WE GO Spoiler: Robins'-egg nails inspired by the ones Acey did I do not like how these turned out at all. I think I should have done smaller flecks. The ones I wore last weekend: Spoiler: Fried eggs Got some bubbles in the topcoat with this one. That doesn't usually happen :c Spoiler: Baby's first attempt at stamping feat. an appearance from the right hand Stamping turns out to be easier than I'd feared but it will still take some time to get gud at it. And the ones I'm wearing currently, both stamped: Spoiler: SCIENCE is my right hand man Man those're some wonky-as-shit lines. I think I need a stiffer stamper for those sorts of things, the one I've got now is super squishy so tiny details like that get distorted. Also my topcoat keeps smearing details, I need to look up how to fix that. Spoiler: And the left Turns out A England polishes are fucking amazing for stamping, now I want to buy like ten more.
There's a tutorial here (there are others but that is the one I used because it was the one I found least intimidating to look at). I didn't bother with buying special stamping polishes though, I already own a lot of nail polish which is pigmented enough to work for it. If you're interested, the plates I have are this science-themed one and this one.
Ooh, cool! That sounds like such a cool way to get intricate nails without having to learn to draw well. :D I am in Europe however, so I'll likely have to look into shops that ship from there to avoid customs. Eeeeee how cool!
WOW I actually love the robin's egg ones! and the stamping is gorgeous :o what kind of brushes do you use for painting them? like, for the detail work, I mean.
