He's in love with his red frock coat, and loves bright garish colors in general, though red is always his first choice. Hal's associated with earth tones, cause he's the mellow one. Though eventually he swaps his brown coat for a black one when it's Thematically Important. - your setting: The city of Vigil is most notable for its white walls and white palace, and white is the color most heavily associated with antagonists. Spaces the protagonists inhabit tend to be very homey colors--reds, golds, browns. - your novel as a whole: Not sure, perhaps also black, as Darling is the protag, and black/darkness representing security, safety, home, wisdom and experience is A Whole Thing. - the cover you'd put on the book: Hmm.
