So I finished another Naruto themed drawing the other day Spoiler: It a team They are, from left to right, Katakiri Himawari, Sanada Minoru and Yamaguchi Mamoru. Himawari is the younger daughter of a defected Kiri nin who basically went "fuck this shit I'm out" when there were civilian riots in Kirigakure that kind of fucked completely with the political structure of the village, and inherited the shark teeth thing from her. She's adorable, likes pretty things and clothes, and is the leader of the gang. She also holds grudges like a motherfucker and is upset she didn't get to be in a team with her best friend. Minoru, better known as "Sansan", is a more straightlaced boy who just... is kind of really bad at peer pressure. Really, if it weren't for Himawari, he'd be very obedient to their poor sensei. Instead, he just kind of follows Himawari's lead and feels kind of guilty about his sensei's attempts at wrangling them into shape. Mamoru got nicknamed "rebel-kun" because he used to question absolutely everything and then promptly try to do it another way, or would just not be satisfied, and would have probably gotten to be team leader if he hadn't been placed with Himawari's implacable cheerful steamroller personality. Now he admires her and calls her Boss-chan sometimes. They do end up listening to their jounin-sensei after a while, who happens to be in the Bingo book as "the Scholar" for his jutsu knowledge, but not until they've basically run straight into a near death-situation and Hideaki-sensei saves their asses while being supremely badass. Himawari's mom is convinced that this could have been all avoided if Hideaki-sensei had just beat Himawari up to display his dominance when she first started being a problem. You can tell she's from Mist by this attitude.
Me and my boyfriend were talking about how you can undo the entire plot of Naruto if you undo the death of Kakashi's father To wit: Sakumo lives -> baby Kakashi is less poorly adjusted and not a dick -> he actually communicates with his teammates -> Rin and Obito survive -> Obito never joins with Madara -> the war probably doesn't happen but also: no fox attack -> Minato and Kushina live, Naruto is never made the nine tails jinchuuriki, third hokage retires -> Orochimaru isn't allowed to go free -> Root doesn't exist -> Uchiha massacre doesn't happen, coup resolved peacefully -> Itachi and Sasuke are also fine poor Gaara is still out there and Akatsuki probably exists in some form, but that's all the major plot beats accounted for. So much suffering could've been averted if fucking Konoha took a break from its culture of honor, the village comes first bullshit and not abandoned one of the people who'd already given his whole life to the shitty place
New fanfic where Kakashi time travels back to save his dad and fixes everything. Wait, I kind of saw a fanfic that did have time travel and Kakashi kind of saved his dad until his dad uncovered Danzou and Root and died anyways at Danzou's hand but completely exposed him to everyone and things kind of cascaded into everything being better.
Reminds me of the fic where Sakura ends up in a time-loop that starts at the beginning of the Chuunin exams. She find Naruto, Hinata, and Sasuke all looping too, and it's implied up until the end that the other rookies might be looping too; the fic focuses mainly on Sakura, though, and how she slowly levels up and becomes first competent (because she is so tired of having to do the same day over and over) and then badass, and then frankly terrifying. It also turns into a crossover with Oh! My Goddess about halfway through, though, and the author pretty clearly...didn't have any interest in redeeming Sasuke. Also, author was pretty clearly in favour of Naruto/Sakura/Hinata. (I mean, I still liked the fic - and it has Sakura manage to figure out the sheer depth of everything that's fucked up with the Narutoverse and what needs doing to fix most of it, plus it has Sakura end up as god of the ninja world and working on balancing out the sheer awfulness in that universe. But it also has Sasuke go completely off the rails, straight into "utterly beyond redemption, don't even think about it" territory.) ngl, I like time-travel fix-it fics? Especially in the Narutoverse. Time-loops are my jam, too, especially if it's a Groundhog Day type loop.
Probably, yeah. From what I remember, it has Sakura get messed up by a lot of the bad guys she encounters. But in a sort of realistic way, generally? It didn't have her getting beaten down by opponents she should have been able to handle, it had her getting wrecked by opponents she wasn't prepared for. She also, after a certain point, went to "okay, I can't really die, any death of mine just sends me back to the beginning of the loop, so obtaining information is more important than surviving" - I remember that she and Hinata try a few times to enter Pain's region and they give it up as a bad job after a few loops because there's no way to get in without being spotted (which they only really care about because they get eliminated shortly after they're spotted each time). (I also liked that it didn't have her obsess over trying to fix everything? After a while, she just focused on trying to get as much info as she could, and periodically fucked off as a rogue nin or a hermit when she needed solitude.)
yo someone with a crunchyroll subscription watch this and tell me what happens (do Not actually do that, please don't inflict Boruto on yourself if you don't have to. I'm gonna find a rip of it and watch it even though I Know It Will Be Bad just so I can shove the worldbuilding in my eyeballs. I have problems.)
I've been watching Boruto, I wouldn't wish it on anyone. Seriously, part of the plot is so embarassing. Spoiler: Boruto's an exercise in me suffering from second hand embarassment Anyways, there is this "shadow" that affects people and heightens their emotions and makes them act erratically, getting to them when they're feeling very affected by events, and making them act aggressively and not normally at all. Example: The academy keeps getting property damage, and one of the construction builders was frustrated by it and never getting the work done because more damage would be done. The "shadow" affects him and he goes on a rampage attacking people and destroying more of the school, laughing about how he'll destroy it all. Or, the kid who was being bullied and was being forced into a particular study path by his father, who said he wasn't strong enough without this study path, but agrees that if the kid demonstrates strength he'll be able to choose what to study. The kid is moping when he gets the shadow inflicted on him, and makes his emotions stronger and his thought erratic so he decides to kill the kids who were bullying him and that this would solve his problem. Anyways, the shadow? Only Boruto can see it. And then he gets a prophetic dream about how he has "the power of hope sleeping within [him]" and he starts acting "cool" and edgy and is self satisfied with "shouldering the fate of the world" and oh my god it is so embarrassing and terrible.
that...could've actually been kind of adorable? like, a world that's settling into peace, but like, the remnants of hate and despair from the bad old days are still left in people's hearts. and like, the otsutsuki or whoever are invested in having everything be horrible forever, so they cause that hate to manifest as demons and shit. and bort and companions, who are the first generation to be raised in this better world, have the power to beat back evil once and for all. like...I always wanted to see the supernatural elements of nart played with a little, it's different enough from the original that it doesn't feel like a clone, and it gives the kids a reason to still do cool ninja fighting while still conveying that the world is changing and the role of the shinobi is changing with it. I don't think it's necessarily a horrible idea
*cracks knuckles* Spoiler: Oh god I have like twelve this time In no particular order: Team Seven vs. Paperwork wherein the ninja in charge of mission reports and administration are literally actually cursed, and that curse is Team Seven. Four finished stories, one ongoing (as of June) featuring Iruka as the lone shining hero in the war against Konoha's vast bureaucracy. It's ridiculous and I love it. survival of the fittest features Sakura and Shikamaru bonding over being thirteen and terrified and trapped behind enemy lines. They play smart when they can and brutal when they can't. Freedom in the Eyes of Another - man, what if Wave went, like, super-badly and Sasuke is missing and Kakashi is dying and the only thing that can get them out now is Sakura's affinity for localized eyeball trauma? This is what. Violence is what. One Hundred Days - It's about, well, the first 100 days after Naruto goes of with Jiraiya and how Naruto and Sakura's respective paths take them. It's really good and I'd have a more thorough review but I read it back in June and it's 395,000 words long so I forgot a bunch and haven't reread it yet. There's an unfinished, likely abandoned (2011) sequel. Also Sakura has a mom in this, who is actually important to the plot and let me tell you how often THAT happens. The Eyes Have It is actually super-neat, it features Sakura slowly developing her own Magic Ninja Eyeball and getting placed with Kiba and Shino under Kurenai. It's fucking rad and it has, probably, 200% more Shino than every single other fic I've read put together, which is good because I love him here. The unfinished sequel is definitely worth a look. Chiaroscuro has Shikamaru accidentally inherit his mom's drive instead of his dad's lethargy, and everything Spirals Out of Control™ anyway it's a wacky (not actually wacky) AU with Naruto, Ino, and Shikamaru driving Kakashi out of his mind and vice versa, and Shikamaru starts pissing off political enemies, all that good shit. It's less finished than most of the things I've put here but it's regularly updating, like the most recent one was last week, so i feel comfortable recommending it. Diplomatic Relations - A 2006 Livejournal Classic wherein Lee goes to Suna as the Ambassador and he and Gaara have lost of emotions at each other, followed by boning. Maldoror has a long history of excellent fic, some of it Naruto and much of it filthy, and while they're slowly moving the whole collection to AO3 under the name of Maldoror_Chant the rest is found in their LJ memories. The life and times of Hatake Kakashi, the long-suffering jōnin-sensei - a time travel fic from the perspective of a man who has no what is happening, only that he is being mercilessly trolled by his students. Waves lies somewhere between time travel and backwards reincarnation, where a Uzumaki Sakura, a child living in Uzushiogakure, starts remembering the life of Haruno Sakura. This is awkward because Sakura won't be born for a good 24 years or so but also she's pretty sure she's supposed to be preventing a good number of tragedies? Visionary is weird as shit and unfinished but I love it? Kakashi, Naruto and Obito go back in time to prevent an awful future blah blah blah and fuck it up so hard they end up forty years in the past as a single person, by which I mean a six-armed abomination who argues with himself all the time. Way of the Apartment Manager - oh man how did I forget this? edenfalling is like one of my favourite writers ever and she did this, which is great. Basically it's about a genin washout who takes up the family trade of being a landlord, until the Hokage guilts her into renting out to Naruto. There's adorable bonding and sickass worldbuilding. Deja Vu and Dreams - aaaand the finisher! Did you want to read a million word long self insert fic (okay it's only 941,000 words). You probably don't, but if you did I'd recommend this one.
does anyone have any hinata fic rec (oh my god i vaguely remember a hinata fic here she like... became an economic and trade expert? like. not a ninja. just real good at bureaucracy.)
found it. did anyone else ever read these? Spoiler https://www.fanfiction.net/s/6512449/1/The-Hand-of-Lady-Hyuga https://www.fanfiction.net/s/8278482/1/Another-Way-to-Serve https://www.fanfiction.net/s/3283653/1/Summoner-Nin (i should point out - these aren't recs, just fic i remember reading when i was younger and i don't really remember anything from them.)
LMAO GUESS FUCKING WHAT I’m not gonna bother to spoil it because who cares but: In the most recent Boruto episode we get the Tragic Backstory TM of Kagura, the nice young lad who’s been showing Bort and friends around Kiri Basically when he and his classmates were in ninja elementary school and were practicing swords he had some kind of dissociative break and murdered the fuck out of all the other kids including his only friend. Kid currently has a pathological terror of ever wielding a sword in case it happens again - this impairs his fighting ability and causes him significant distress, on screen So Bordo, quite reasonably, is all like “well why are you still gonna be a ninja then” and Kagura’s response is basically, “because it’s the only way to escape poverty” Kirigakure is currently this shiny Pokémon-ass-looking touristy port city and you’re still gonna fucking tell me that a dangerously unstable kid is still gonna become a fucking career killer because his only other option is starvation. And you’re still gonna bang on about how the world has changed and Kiri isn’t the Bloody Mist anymore. Fuck off. We’ve got more episodes in this arc but my hopes are not high. I’m hatewatching at this point
Oh my god, so much hasn't changed what the fuck, why would he have a dissociative break out of nowhere too, what triggered it, SOMETHING IS REALLY SHITTY IN YOUR LIFE I SEE. I'm also hatewatching, so let's see how much I commiserate with you when I catch up I'm still in the first arc ffs.
