Honestly, the worst of it just passed from their behavior getting SO awful that I weirdly feel better about myself. I can find SCIENCE videos on my own now.

    Thank you guys, though.

Huh. Well, I didn't know that word either, but I found a thing describing it as "reading something you know you dislike in order to mock it or hold it in contempt". So, sort of, "compulsively reading things you know will be upsetting", maybe? (Sorry if this is intrusive; it's just that "how do I stop X" is the kind of question I can sometimes answer, but I have to understand what X is.)

To stop compulsively doing a thing, understand the root of the compulsion. Reading stuff you hate because you're afraid of what people might be saying, rooted in social anxiety, would be completely different from reading stuff you hate because you love feeling angry. There's a lot of reasons you might be doing that, but start by working out what it is, and then you can address the thing more effectively. And there's so many possible reasons. Like, with political stuff, I've seen a feedback loop of "gripe about idiot politicians to friends, friends respond with approval and agreement of your views" producing a compulsion to go read stuff that's annoying because then you can complain about it and get pats and affirmations. So, start from there, because it's not an out-of-the-blue thing; you're feeling the compulsion because your brain thinks doing this achieves a goal.

What if I feel like I have to read stuff I hate because otherwise Echo Chamber?
