@swirlingflight I was just gauging feelings, people are still discussing and more people are still getting ready to contribute. It's just good to check in. No permanent decisions are being made at this moment.
To clarify, I have no intention of adding rules soon, but I think it's a good idea to talk about them. I do think there's definitely an issue here. Biggest thing: Please report stuff if you're uncomfortable with it or want us to be aware of it as an example of a problem. We are not going to be able to be familiar with all the RP thread content automatically, so if there's stuff bugging you, please let us know.
If having an 18+ thread in your subforum means the whole thing has to go behind the NSFW wall OR the subforum has to be split up, I will have to make WT 18+ despite the fact that no actual smut has ever been posted there. There have been a lot of FTBs, but considering that most of those have involved characters who are not only adult but actually between the ages of 35 and 70, all played by adults... I'm kind of pissed off about that, especially since our one 17 year old player isn't even in any ships.
We need an actual workable catalogue of what is and isn't nsfw vs sfw before we can enact any categorization rules please! If we don't do that, but default to a rating system please refer to the rating system in question and a link to the rating system's guidelines! The only difficulty with that would be that some of my RP-subs have incredibly long taglines already and skirt realy close to the character limit but I can try to find a workaround if needed.
So, I got permission to quote a thing from a Caring Void thread, and I think it's relevant: This was a few days ago, and not related to the current conversation, and I think not even related to the different complaints from other users that led me to start this thread. But I think it's very relevant to the question of whether we have a problem. Because I think the actual problem of the content of the RPs is not as significant as the problem that people don't feel like they can complain and be taken seriously. I've had a few people yelling at us about enabling, and I am not entirely convinced that it's fair, but... I think there's a definite issue here. Because if people say something's creeping them out, and they end up feeling like they're being disregarded or told they're wrong to feel that way, then they don't report things, and we stop finding out that there's a problem, or people just silently leave, or put up with feeling unsafe, because they don't think their concerns count. And that is a problem. Even if the ultimate conclusion is that no rule changes are needed, we still need to make it clear that people can and should express concerns when they're feeling creeped out by things, and that they shouldn't feel like it's unsafe to do that.
Oops, apparently the proposed NSFW tag that would act like the Vent tag is not yet extant, so I was jumping the gun.
If twttr can do it u can 2. This isn't set in stone, there's time to fiddle around with things. If mods can increase the character limit slightly, for example, that might be an option.
That´s a good idea, sorry didn´t realize signatures were an issue for people. Honestly the ideal would be like a badge you could apply to the account but that would be extra coding.
Okay but how awesome is it that I managed to create it at least a full 5-10 seconds before your post saying it wasn't there? Should now be available in It's Galley's Turn... and now, a minute later, also in the subforums.
If it weren't for subaccounts, it would be pretty easy, but we'd have to do it for every single subaccount separately, so.
Also, @seebs, the more I think about it the more I am annoyed by your implication that I should assume I'm in the wrong because multiple persons disagree with me, particularly since a bunch of the ones I actually know about were very frank about being from outside and being present in the discussions because they had heard something from someone else who heard something and were not actually aware of the actual content under discussion. I mean, yeah, there were things I said in the argument that could be TAKEN in a creepy way. But not if you actually know what the argument was about. Oh jesus fuck @seebs. The person in question was mad about a joke I made in Acey's Vent thread. I was not trying to use them as an example of how not creepy I was. If the post had not been a joke, the person I would have been using as an example of how not creepy I was would have actually been Acey. I did say that I thought some people on the site were cray af, but the person in question wasn't one of them. The person in question and I had a big nasty fight in which we both said things we shouldn't have said, but the person in question had also been creeping me out and upsetting me for months. This is so out of context that I'm really pissed off now and it has jack and shit to do with the issue of what site policy ought to be.
