One game saw the two PC's summoned to meet a mysterious stranger at a tavern. I began describing the NPC's around the room. When I got to the description of the Anti-Paladin/Blackguard/Death Knight walking into the room, player 1 says to player 2:

"Hey, that guy was worthy of extra description, therefore he's worth XP!"

With no rationale whatsoever other than the fact I spent a few extra moments painting up this NPC that just walked in, the pair leap from the table and murder him as he's sat down at his own table. I snap my book shut and say, "Game over."

They ask why, and I say, "That was the BBEG."
