Basically Lovecraft was totally terrified of anything that wasn't an educated upper-class white man. Preferably British. Most of his writing becomes vaguely hilarious when you realize the root of the intended horror in a large portion of it is "WHAT IF UPPER-CLASS WHITE BRITISH DUDES AREN'T THE CENTER OF THE UNIVERSE" with "upper-class white British dudes" hastily scribbled out and "humanity" written underneath it in highlighter.

 

Conversation with roommate the other day: It's not like I went into things expecting to do crafts naked.

I enjoy Lovecraft, but for all I know he was always writing with a hand down his pants. Maybe being disgusted by sex and fleshy bits was totally his kink. Or maybe he was all like, "Ohhhh, so many syllables! Oh God you're a bad sentence aren't you? You're such a bad sentence! Uhhh, this is so... so... squamous oh God yes!"
