....so I looked up vivisection because I didn't know what it was and

....I feel like whoever wrote this definition was feeling bitter about people who do vivisection or something, because I feel like there's a little snark in the way that last part is phrased.

 

Yeeeaaah, I've read the term used by doctors/scientists who were actually performing vivisections, especially from back when it was common. Not sure where they got that last bit.

 

I mean, Wikipedia says it's not commonly used by practicing scientists anymore. but it looks like it's still used to train surgeons and such.
but yeah, I think the writer of the definition wanted to snark.
