I mean, I guess there's nothing stopping the Inca from carving flat straight roads through the Andes and using llama-drawn carriages (which honestly sounds kind of magical), they probably just decided that given the infrastructure and technology they already had that the llama highway would be a pain in the ass.

What I am talking about is not our technological development being a matter of luck. What I mean is that for any individual, past a middling level of talent, how much success you actually have is basically luck.

Suddenly having tons of valuable knowledge no one around you does would be a brilliant stroke of luck.
