it's okay it's just hnnnnn STRESS. at least there wasn't a ton to do otherwise so we could focus on it all but i hope my boss's oncall shift won't see any of those things turn into acute emergencies
(but yes this is your periodic owl reminder to please donate blood if you're eligible to do so. plz. we need it.)
Yes, donate blood! Also: that's a whole of blood. I order loads for all kinds of people everyday too, especially because I'm currently in the Haematology department :P Haematology patients get a lot of blood
Yea we had a recent influx of patients who (potentially) needed a lot of blood at once, like GI bleeds, so we had to order in, and then very little of that ordered blood actually left the lab because FORTUNATELY the worst case didn't take place. Which is good! but it also makes it very hard to calculate anything meanwhile the dialysis or hematology/oncology patients were a lot easier to calculate with because it'd be like 'patients needs a unit like twice a week' which made it a lot easier for us to prepare for the future
hello excuse me i would like to lodge a complaint with english today i learnt that 'corps' and 'corpse' are not, in fact pronounced the same. What the fuck???
Curious, what is the blood type distribution like where you are? A+ is pretty common here, which is nice for me, the person with A+ blood prone to bleeding
lemme check the official stats.... 37% A+ 35% O+ 9% B+ 6% A- 6% O- 4% AB+ 2% B- 1% AB- According to the german red cross. Getting A+ isn't that big of a problem (I'm still terrifying of an O- GI bleed in the middle of an extended weekend...) as long as there are no antibodies involved. I'm still having nightmares about the time we had a 6.5Hb on a patient with fucking O- anti-LutheranB aka 'so rare there's less than 1k of recognized donor worldwide' (btw, some light reading on rare blood groups go here)
(mind you, that blood group spread is the one for Germany and is not representative for other parts of the world. Rhesus negative is a LOT rarer in Asia, for example)
Oh, I can explain that one! They come from the names of two Native American (Siouan, to be specific) tribes—the Kansa (Kansas) and the Quapaw (Arkansas). It’s also another case of English and French getting all mingled in the case of Arkansas—the S at the end is silent because it was only slightly modified from the word the French used. Still def confusing, but at least there’s some reason behind it? (EDIT: I got ninja’d but yeah)
Issue of the day: love the dnd campaign and the characters, progressively find the actual players less enjoyable despite being longtime friends. Just. There's been a lot of stuff happening lately that made me feel deliberately excluded/alienated, and i don't feel like i can bring it up with them at all. Feels bad. Guess i'm gonna finish the campaign and then idek. I love the setting and i love dnd but dunno if i wanna play another one with them
I've just stuck Ravages front legs on the wrong way around so i think that was my sign to stop sewing while my brain's screaming. Gonna seamrip it tomorrow and stick them the right way. Tomorrow's Mending Day anyways so might as well Also, decided to start a fabric basket for clothes truly beyond mending so that i have scrap fabric for things. I have a nice colorful organizer box i can use.
Also also it's pissing down completely outside so i'm gonna stick my head into petrichor air and see if that makes the brain wasps shut up
