He finds the can. He's pretty sure that it's not quite old enough for him to get botulism. Can you get botulism from canned beans? Whatever. "Why did you come here?" he asks as he goes through the motions of heating the beans up. "Where are you from, I didn't know... I didn't know there was anyone else out here. Except for the trains, I mean."
The stranger makes a few vague motions with their hands, standing on tiptoe to look at the shelf, then knocks a few times on the cupboards.
The other reaches out, slowly, broadcasting their movement, and points to Roe's mouth, then taps their ears.
"Oh. Yeah. I guess I haven't been exactly quiet," Roe said, "whoops." There wasn't much of anything in the cupboard. Some more cans, some scavanged ramen, and more bottles of soda.
The stranger sticks their head into the cupboard, then lets out a dismayed gasping noise after looking around somewhat, their mask catching on the inside as they try to pull back out. The mask thunks woodenly as they squirm.
Oh shit. "Um- what can I do?" Roe blurts. He really does not want to lose his new friend to their face being stuck in a cupboard. That would be bad. And just his luck.
They bat at the cupboard, waving a hand and pointing. They don't seem to be sure how to turn their head?
Right, they can't speak. Shit. Shit. Um. "Is it just your mask stuck? Can you turn your head? Two hits for yes and one for no, if that works?"
"If-" Roe isn't sure how to say this exactly. "I can turn around if you don't want me to see your face, if that's what you're worried about," he finally says.
There's a moment of hesitation, then they try to spell 'help', blindly drawing on the wood with a finger.
"I don't," Roe says, "I don't know how." He doesn't know anything much, really, just what he's figured out. He knows what the difference between "diesel dyke" and "stone butch" is but that probably wouldn't help, here.
"Do you want /me/ to take the mask off? Or pull your head out?" That sounds like it could hurt them. Roe really doesn't want to hurt them.
"Okay..." Roe climbs up so that he's standing next to the person on the counter. He sort of has to stoop, but not really. He says "I'm going to put my hands on either side of your hand, and to see if I can maneuver it so it gets unstuck" (Should I roll something here?)
