BTW, if you do decide to watch the movies, you might want to skip over the first, idk, 15-20 seconds of them? That should take you through any fanservicey parts and right into the magical staffs being constructed.
Ha! That basically sums up my feelings. I'm excited to see where season 2 goes and if it's more linear, and I really enjoyed the Lila episode.
Yuki Yuna is a Hero was pretty fun with some cool visuals! I watched it immediately after Madoka though, which meant that I couldn't stop comparing the two in my head :V I will say that Yuki Yuna kind of waffles a little at the end as far as permanent consequences for dangerous magical powers go, which is why I liked Madoka a little more, but honestly it's enjoyable enough and has at least one weird enough plot twist about the world's setting that I second the recommendation
Nurse angel ririka is an old school magical girl anime from 1995, it's like sailormoon but the protag is a preteen. I obsessed with it for a time, but i never managed to watch many episodes. Fancy lala was also good, it's obscure as hell, and its more slice of life then monster of the week. Its about a 10 year old girl who gains the power to transform into a teenager. She then becomes a fashion model. She has two cute pastel dinosaurs as her companions.
