I could have missed something because i read a lot of the comic without realizing there was worldbuilding stuff in the author comments...but I'm wondering if this is like. A culture clash ("feeeeelings are for the weak") or something specific to Cio that she has a hangup about.

I mean, Allison probably should have taken "i don't do relationships" (don't recall the exact wording) as a red flag but also i sympathize with her frustration.

Maybe she should write a fanfic about it (lol)

I don't think the author comments really give much more insight on why Cio is like that, as it's more mythology and legends. I think it's just that Cio is more emotionally vulnerable than she wants to be, considering her demonic peers and her history as Yabalchoath.
