Seconded, when we bother to call it anything. usually the reaction to them is everybody looking for a rainbow.
what do you call it when there's a circular rainbow around the sun in the winter? we call 'em sundogs here
I always thought that that was the official name, as thats what we used in my meteorology class. Apparently, it isn't.
yeah I think there's a bunch of words for them but imho nothing beats Left Hand Sun Dog, which would also be a great name for a prog rock group
... You guys have a word for that? (hilariously I've never seen it happen with the sun, only rainbows in mist around bright moons.)
Ooh, yeah, I love those. No idea what moon-rainbows are called, though. Moondog? Wait, that's probably a band.
I have literally nothing else to do today Spoiler: so I made a shitty album cover WHO WANTS TO FORM A PROG ROCK GROUP WITH ME, TAKING APPLICATIONS NOW
It pretty much fuckin is, yeah. This is the time of year for it (Nov-Feb) when we have our cold fogs up here.
imagine if that was the end result of all kintsugijin conversations in twenty years, the forum is dead but the bands live on
Yeah, sundogs are the thing where you get bright spots in the sky that look like the sun but aren't. Also re: kitty-corner, the other day I was walking to a friend's house with @Wiwaxia and they said the house was kitty-corner from us and I just did not understand. I know it's a thing people say but my brain just cannot remember the meaning for some reason. (We're both Northwesterners but I've spent a lot of time outside the state, idk)
Re: kitty-corner, my dad says "catty-corner". He grew up in the middle of absolute nowhere, interacting with mostly sheepherders, so he has some weird very regional things he says so maybe this is one of them??? Also I have never heard "sundog" before in my life. Apparently it is just not a thing that anyone around here says, or no one feels the need to use a word for it?
