I'm from the US and I say US most of the time, resulting in constructions like "us USians" occasionally coming out of my mouth. I think I got into the habit because politicians say "America" and "Americans" so much I can only mentally hear those words in a politician voice. Like, just typing that I had to try not to type "my fellow Americans".
I'm canadian, i say US, the states, and america. If i'm referring to the location, then i usually say the states. "We went over/down to the states and my mom was soooo worried we'd get hurt and get ridiculous medical bills"
My friend says "as you do" a lot and I've sort of picked it up. He's from Chicago, iirc? I'm from the US and I get annoyed. Even though sometimes I slip up and call it America too because everyone else does. xP
Okay, digging up this thread because a pretty good one occurred to me - what did you guys call that kid's game where you dare each other to run up to a house, ring the doorbell, then bolt away giggling wildly? (It was Knockadoor-run in my time and place XD)
Ding-dong ditch and it's good to know that game was universal we never played it in my old neighborhood tho because the usual response was 'GET OFF MY PROPERTY BRATS I'M GETTING MY GUN'
