Ch 449 I don't think I can overstate how much I love Shin's entire aesthetic (Stage One: Pocus/The Game) this is weirdly mundane? like it reminds me of putting gas in the prius Also reminiscent of fueling a car, there's a gauge on the base the large blastocyst-looking structure is sitting on, which shows how much energy's been pumped into the thing. To Bobbidi's surprise, with just this one shot, almost half of the energy requirement has been filled. He's got some slight regrets that he got rid of Yamu and Spopovich so quickly, if they were able to get this much in such a short amount of time. Dabra reminds him that there are still those three he lured in, and that their energy will likely be more than enough to awaken Boo before the day ends. Good point, Dabra. Let's check on Pocus' progress fighting them. what could possibly be -- why are you guys fucking taking cues from the goddamn ginyu force. why is it always rock paper scissors Vegeta wins the impromptu RPS competition, so he gets to fight. (There's another thing Vegeta's won! He is winning so much lately! He should be over the moon!) He lets Pocus know that he thinks Bobbidi was an idiot for picking a fight with them, the strongest beings in the universe. Pocus laughs and Shin's affronted by Vegeta's apparent unconcern. "calm down grampa" Pocus explains how this all works: damage inflicted on them will be converted (somehow) to energy and transmitted to the shell that's holding Boo. So, if Vegeta doesn't get hurt at all, no energy'll be transferred? Exactly right; Vegeta's a quick study, although Pocus thinks it pretty unlikely that Vegeta won't take any damage. Vegeta invites him to try. Pocus springs into action with a kick aimed for Vegeta's head, which he blocks with a single hand before returning the favor. Pocus slams into the far wall. Before he can regain his feet, Vegeta kicks him again, this time in the chin, and sends him ricocheting off the ceiling of the chamber. This continues as Bobbidi, Dabra, and Shin look on in shock. Wasn't this Pocus the champion of some planet or other?! Upon learning the planet in question was the Planet Zoon, Bobbidi transports the room to that planet, under the assumption that this will give Pocus an advantage. Aaaaand that advantage is... the gravity is 10x that of Earth. "Oh no," says Vegeta. "Whatever will I do." Then he moves in close to Pocus and fucking just lights that sucker up. Goodbye, Pocus. Vegeta complains that this one was boring, but the aperture at the center of the room has opened up. Oh boy, on to the next level! you are gonna get left behind if you just stand around gaping you're so useless i love you well there's your problem. you're an idiot Dabra tells Bobbidi not to fret. They still have three stages to go, and he's still an option.
Shin managed to be cool and mysterious for, like, four whole chapters but spending thirty seconds with Goku, Gohan and Vegeta just knocks it all out the window.
I love Shin And I love how weak the gods of this universe are compared to the sayians or a lot of species really. How they keep folks who wanna fight them in line in the afterlife is a mystery.
Ch 450 welp, can't let that stop me (Stage Two: Yakon) so they did a heck of a lot of work to bury this thing. it's gigantic, good lord. but it's nice to get a good idea of how things work inside. not windows! Who's up next? Bobbidi decides on Yakon, whose name I'm not even going to try to think about too much, because if I don't try I can't fail. Dabra's surprised at this, but Bobbidi's actually doing something I appreciate in a character: changing plans based on new information (in this case, that these Earthlings are much stronger than expected). Yakon will make short work of them, which disappoints Dabra, but the most important thing is getting Boo out of that shell, so Yakon it is for Stage 2. Goku and Vegeta are impatient, and Vegeta's still thinking the most direct way is just to break the floor and descend. Shin is sick and tired of telling Vegeta that that's a bad plan, but he has to do it anyway. shin looks kind of traumatized... i think he's going to need a lot of rest and recuperation after this is over Vegeta explains that they could have easily handled Dabra as long as they were careful about the whole magic spit thing (and throws in a dig at Kibito). Shin confirms this with Goku, who he apparently thinks is more trustworthy than Vegeta. Well, maybe less full of absolute confidence, anyway. Dabra is roughly equivalent to Cell, which would have been a problem... seven years ago. Now? Not so much. Shin marvels at the strength of super saiyans. is that how the RPS shook out, then? i thought you might repeat it for every level. it's kind of surprising vegeta's willing to just sit back i just liked that :o face Yakon makes its appearance. It's rather reptilian or amphibian in appearance, with no neck to speak of, skinny limbs, a stubby tail tipped with a spike, and lots of teeth. Goku's kind of taken aback at the sight of the monster before him. Yakon wonders who it should eat first, and Goku volunteers, adding in a disappointed way that the creature seems slow. (Goddamnit Goku, that shit with Piccolo really left a mark, huh?) Shin recognizes the creature as Yakon, the "magical beast". Yakon attaxks, and he is fast. Goku barely avoids being slashed, but his outer shirt isn't so lucky. Shin thinks they should team up and attack together, but Gohan's pretty sure his dad can handle it alone. here's a good pic of yakon in all its glory with forearm claws extended. it really doesn't look like there is physically enough room in its forearms for those claws to retract into Bobbidi is pleased with Yakon's work so far, and tells it to kill them all (besides the kaioushin, who's still off-limits). To make it go faster, he's going to send them to the Dark Planet, which is Yakon's favorite place. Yakon's jazzed about that. Bobbidi chants and off they go. The Dark Planet is dark. Team Saiyan (+ Shin) can't see shit, but Yakon's perfectly capable in the low light conditions. It attacks Goku... who evades every strike and then counters with a kick to Yakon's face. Ppppffft, eyes? Don't need those for fighting! But it does make it easier, and so Goku turns super saiyan in order to light up the area. So that's what those auras are for! Turning into a big, spiky nightlight! is there no one who knows what a super saiyan is?? it's not like transformation is rare in this universe, so many things can turn into other things at the least provocation, even if you don't know exactly what this particular transformation is it shouldn't be such a shock Ch 451 (Yakon's Treat/The Demon Beast Yakon's Feast) Bobbidi calls for an energy meter, the "biggest one [they] have!!", as though size is the main limiting factor of measuring energy. Maybe it is, and maybe that's why scouters were always exploding. They just weren't big enough to read all that energy. Yakon's pretty unconcerned about this turn of events. In fact, it seems kind of happy about it. That's worrisome. 3000 kiri. oh man, so many kiri. just a fuckton of kiri And Yakon's top kiri rating is 800, so he (Bobbidi uses "he", and ignoring the ambiguity of Japanese regarding gendered pronouns, I'm following the manga's cue and using it too) is royally fucked. Yakon doesn't know that yet, though, and opens his mouth wide. He inhales, and somehow manages to suck the super saiyan energy right out of Goku. He swallows it. ... what the fuck did I just see It's all dark again, and Shin reveals that Yakon eats light energy, so Goku's energy was a perfect meal. Well fuck. Gohan gives him the info about the whole light energy consumption thing and tells him not to go super saiyan again, but Yakon's like "no, no, do it again, please, I haven't eaten so well in ages". i was joking but uh you're way too eager about this Gohan's like "No, Dad, what the heck are you doing, let's fight together", but Goku tells him he has it under control; just let him handle it! Yakon says, "Hooray for morons!!", and Shin agrees with the moron part but disputes the "hooray" part: why do they insist on fighting alone? Why can't they not be so stupid? Vegeta defends Goku: despite how it looks, he must have a plan. Well, I remember the last time he had a great plan, and how well that went, so please forgive me if I'm not quite ready to blindly accept any plan of Goku's. Yakon engages his light energy vacuum mode again. EX-FUCKING-CUSE ME .... .... the upshot of all of this is that Yakon eats too much and explodes. kind of like at the end of that one monty python movie. bye, yakon. .... hoooooooooooo boy. I gotta take a moment. Okay. The aperture opens, and they can progress. Onwards... and downwards. what does this even mean Bobbidi, shocked, tries to figure out what happened with Yakon. There was some strangeness in the last moment, apparently, so maybe there's something weird happening that I'm not picking up on. Dabra decides he's going to be the opponent for the third match. He'll get things done. There's no one stronger than he, Dabra, the King of the Demon Plane.

Ch 452 shin makes me want to shave my head and grow a mohawk, but i know it could never be as stylish as his (Battle Royale/Dabra Takes the Stage!!) According to the RPS contest, Gohan's up next, so it's gonna be Gohan vs. Dabra. Goku asks if he's been training. you seem so personally offended by that fact yeah, what is up with that anyway. do we ever get an explanation of why or is it just the way things are? Shin is still trying to process all of this when the door opens, revealing * drumroll * Dabra. He congratulates the "mere humans" on getting so far. Unfortunately, this is as far as that road goes, because now it's time for them to face him, Dabra. They may as well attack him as a group, because that's the only chance they'll have. No way, it's Gohan's turn! Dabra's a bit miffed that they're taking him so lightly. But enough of that, it's time to get back to the real action: the tournament! A bunch of the competitors have just flown off, which makes it tough to have the competition as planned. They've been gone for almost an hour, so they should probably be disqualified. Master Roshi senses a number of large ki all bunched together in the distance, and suspects that something's up. Mr. Satan thinks that people ran away because they were afraid to fight him, and only those who are left are truly courageous. This seems to give him an idea. mr. satan has, as my dad would say, "low animal cunning" Sounds great! An announcement is made and the contestants get ready. One of the attendant monks praises Mr. Satan for his bravery; in a battle royale, won't everyone be targeting him, the previous champion? How impressive that he suggested this anyway! Mr. Satan realizes his mistake, but bluffs his way through, like he does with most things. Time to introduce the contestants! Everyone knows and loves Mr. Satan, who will be brawling against No. Eighteen, the only remaining female competitor; Mighty Mask, who apparently lost in the first round last time; Killa, who made it through to the second round; and finally Jewel, who was a runner-up in the past and is a big hit with various female members of the audience. Killa approaches "Mighty Mask" (aka Trunks + Goten) and suggests that they work together to get Mr. Satan out of the ring first. shut up goten you're gonna give you guys away! Jewel approachs Eighteen with a similar proposal, but Eighteen is similarly unwilling and tells him to get lost, which hurts Jewel's pride. There's no more time for pre-match alliances or plans, because the battle royale has... begun! Jewel attacks Eighteen, perhaps out of anger, and Eighteen makes short work of him with a single kick. Trunks and Goten take out Killa in one shot too, without any provocation. Two down. Mr. Satan squares up to take them on, but they ignore him utterly. Eighteen is wondering what the heck is up with the dude with the strangely long torso and the powerful punch, and Trunks tells Goten to be careful; Eighteen was stronger than their dads at one point. Ch 453 (Mighty Mask Shows His Power!/The Fate of the Finals) good fucking luck He throws up a V-for-victory sign and then, true to his word, tries to attack Trunks and Goten with a move that involves a series of somersaults and a final punch. He misses entirely because Trunks and Goten have already leapt into battle with Eighteen and are exchanging blows. They find that their disguise is not the best for fighting; Goten doesn't have the best idea where to go or how to move, and his sight is limited. They fly up to escape Eighteen, but she follows them and uses her air counter (a double axe handle) to knock them back down to earth. They crawl out of the hole they've made in the ring, and then barely manage to avoid a blast from Eighteen. It seems hopeless for them, until Goten suggests going super saiyan. While they're in disguise, it should be okay! Eighteen is still puzzling about this guy's body. His limbs are way too short for his proportions, but he's very strong. Then the "man" powers up and gets an aura that she recognizes, and the mystery is solved. Trunks and Goten have decided to rely on ki attacks because they're at a disadvantage, having to fight in the costume and all, and Trunks uses one. Eighteen dodges, and despite the fact it's not at Trunk's maximal power, it still causes a huge explosion (lucky, out in the water). If that's their game, then Eighteen wants this fight done with, about five minutes ago if possible. buuuuuuuuusted! She uses an attack like the kienzan, and Trunks and Goten get cut "in half" by it, which looks gruesome until everyone realizes that this "Mighty Mask" was actually, yes, two kids in a costume. They immediately flee the scene, leaving Eighteen and Mr. Satan as the final contestants. Ch 454 (We Have a Winner!!!) Mr. Satan rightly believes there's no way he can win if Eighteen is his opponent. Trunks and Goten ditch the remains of the Mighty Mask outfit after having gotten a good distance away. Goten spots Videl, who's on her way back to the tournament grounds. goten's a starfish Back at the match.... mr. satan is annoying and endearing in equal measure Eighteen springs into action and gets Mr. Satan in a headlock. She could take him out at any time... but she doesn't. She's got something else in mind: making a deal that's mutually beneficial to both of them. If Mr. Satan gives her double the first place prize money (a total of 20 mil zeni), she'll throw the match for him. He gets to keep his title, his position, his reputation... and she makes a mint. Deal? He agrees, although Eighteen helps him along to that decision with a little coercion. She makes a show of having been thrown off and tells him to finish it with a single attack. He does, and although she is nonplussed by his idea of a "killer move", she plays along and throws herself off the edge of the ring. We do have a victor, and his name is... Satan. Eighteen reminds him, as she walks by, that she'll be there for the money in the morning. If he doesn't cough up, he's a dead man. Eighteen is frightening. Videl has conveniently managed to give Trunks and Goten the whole story during this time, so now they're in the loop re: warlocks, Boo, and their whole sordid history. uh oh, maybe she shouldn't have told them Trunks and Goten get super hyped about the whole thing, and they really wanna see this before it's all over. They locate the direction that they can sense the powerful ki in, turn super saiyan, and head off at top speed. If they don't hurry, all the bad guys will be beaten and they won't get to see Boo! pschooo
I love that Eighteen's just in it for the cash and is absolutely willing to take a dive for it. So many others in the crew would be in the tournament for the love of battle, or the Champion Title, or Saiyan pride or whatever but Eighteen will blackmail celebrities with no hesitation.
Ch 455 well that tournament was not so painful after all (An Evil Soul Revealed) All this time, Gohan has been fighting Dabra. Dabra can apparently also breathe fire as one of his racial skills, which just seems kind of busted. Either magic spit or firebreath, I don't care which, I just don't think one creature should have two mouth-based skills. Gohan evades the fire but ends up attacking a Dabra after-image, and the real Dabra casts a fiery bolt at him which knocks him into the water. (Much like in the Pocus and Yakon fights, they've been sent somewhere else to have the battle.) Goten emerges and gets rid of the outer part of his outfit and is left with one of those battlesuits. no comments from the peanut gallery Vegeta is just about fed up with this battle. Gohan charges Dabra and gets spit at. you did something useful!!! i'm so happy!! Gohan, thanks to Shin's warning, manages to block the spit with a gloved hand. He strips off the glove and tosses it away. I guess it didn't have a chance to soak through or something? Because Piccolo, as far as I can remember, was in kind of the same boat: the saliva hit either his shirt or his cowl. So. Maybe he got a more concentrated dose or something. Dabra uses Gohan's momentary distraction to attack him with a sword (!!!), not something we often see. Gohan catches it between his palms and breaks it, but he's obviously having some stamina issues. Bobbidi's also getting fed up with this battle. Dabra's needs to do more damage to Gohan in order to create the necessary energy to get Boo out of that walnut shell he's in. Gohan's having some trouble, certainly, but not enough that Dabra's just walking all over him. Vegeta decides it's time for him to step in. This is taking too long and Gohan isn't equipped to handle it. you don't say Dabra perks up his ears (metaphorically, but he might be able to do it literally too; he has some impressive ears). "that's the only reason i left my house at all!!" Dabra gets an idea, one that'll be perfect for generating the energy needed to wake Boo up, and has Bobbidi transport them back to the ship. He then hightails it out of the room. He reveals his realization to Bobbidi: one of their opponents has a wicked soul, enough to be converted to their side. Aha, that's perfect! Get them to fight each other and they'll have enough energy in no time! Dabra, you're a genius. Ch 456 (Goku vs. Vegeta/The Fated Showdown: Son Goku vs. Vegeta) Three guesses who the "wicked soul" belongs to and the first two don't count. Shin realizes something is up. Too late, my dude! Shoulda realized like twenty chapters ago! That was probably before you even made an appearance but if you had just bothered to ask around a little bit first.... "Hey, so, are any of you guys evil?" * someone points to Vegeta * "Cool, thanks." And then you leave him the fuck at home. Not like he'd necessarily stay there, but. Augh, Vegeta, you're such a problem. Bobbidi takes a look at Vegeta in his crystal ball and declares him a perfect candidate. Alright, time to do some magic. this is kind of how i feel right now because my head is killing me Vegeta goes super saiyan. Not sure if it's forced or just a natural response to a stressful situation. oh vegeta :/ Bobbidi, apparently having taken control of Vegeta, brings out his latent powers. This seems a lot more painful and uncomfortable than when the Grand Elder did something similar (?) way back on Namek. oh boy that can't be good Bobbidi decides that the best thing for him to do is send them back to fight at the tournament grounds. Uh oh. Bobbidi tells Vegeta to get going on stealing energy, after which he can do what he likes. Vegeta, however, has other plans. He cares about nothing but getting to fight Goku. The rest is irrelevant. Bobbidi is somewhat taken aback by Vegeta's force of will; he's not completely under his control. Vegeta extends his arm, palm out, and fires a blast at Goku, which doesn't do much damage to him, but does a lot to a portion of the stands... and the people sitting there. Like. There is no fucking around going on: Vegeta just straight-up murdered a bunch of people. People who will likely get brought back by the new (well, not anymore) Earth dragon balls, but still. :( :( :( yeah... he definitely did
Ch 457 it's about a thousand degrees outside today so fuck everything, i'm gonna read manga (Vegeta's Pride) The audience, sensibly, starts getting the fuck away. This whole situation fucking sucks. let's not make the corpse pile any bigger now why would he go and do a thing like that? But Vegeta's not really in a mood to be answering questions when he could be fighting instead, and he takes another shot at the stands, on the side that the rest of the gang has been watching from. They're unhurt, but. But. Goku powers up. Shin tells him not to do it, this will only serve to help Bobbidi revive Boo, but is roundly ignored by everyone. Goku has a hypothesis as to why Vegeta may have allowed Bobbidi's spell to control him: to force Goku's hand, as it were, and get him to fight. Which. Okay, this doesn't make much sense to me as stated here: if Vegeta had wanted to do that, he could have just... done that. Does he care about having an "excuse" for killing unrelated people? Because surrendering to the spell doesn't necessarily get him off the fucking hook for any of that, especially given the whole "surrendering" part. And if he didn't care, he could have just attacked people to make Goku fight him. The whole thing is just kind of weird. Vegeta affirms. Yep. Fight seemed like it wasn't gonna happen, Goku's off to the afterlife forever after this, and so it was his only choice. thing is you are not making a particularly good case for it not being insane Vegeta cannot deal with being surpassed by another saiyan, who should be, if not weaker than him, at least only equal. how fucking TERRIBLE of him wow holy shit i can't believe someone would go and do that (no, really, right now it's hard to imagine anyone being willing to do that for this dumb asshole) Goku makes a choice: he'll fight Vegeta if Bobbidi transports them somewhere that no one else will be hurt. everyone out here makin' some big, bold statements There's a bit of a standoff for a moment, and then Goku raises his arm and aims his palm at Shin. whoops! you done fucked up! (also i think vegeta stole shin's eyeliner) Shin backs off. Goku apologizes. Bobbidi is so delighted with the way all of this has gone down that he's started dancing. He's in a good enough mood to grant Goku's teleportation request, and sends them out into some wasteland somewhere (Piccolo would probably know where, but he's still petrified). It's a good spot for a fight, though: a very desert-like landscape with towering stone formations, shaped by the wind over time. Shin steps up to the aperture (which travels with them wherever they teleport) and says that he and Gohan will break in and try to deal with Dabra and Bobbidi. If Boo awakens, well, that won't be as bad as if he's fully powered up by Goku and Vegeta's fighting. good luck getting him to do that what'd i tell ya? although this just makes the whole thing stranger re: vegeta letting himself get controlled. because he's obviously not 100% controlled. is it just the threat of bobbidi having even partial access? * big shrugs *
Ch 458 i am a huge sucker for possessed characters and for vegeta, sooooooo (Two Battles to the Death) Bobbidi is persistent about the whole "kill them!" thing, but then again, so is Vegeta (about the not... killing them thing. Or rather, the "I only care about fighting Kakarrot" thing.). does the pride really matter if body + soul are taken over? in a very literal, like, practical sense Eh, just let him have his fight. They'll still get energy, Dabra's around to take care of any that decide to come barging in, and besides, wasn't Bobbidi going to deal with the kaioushin himself, or at least have him dealt with in his vicinity? Shin's amazed at Vegeta's tenacity. YUP HE SURE DOES HE IS DEAD-SET ON IT Dabra advises opening the passageway to the ship and letting whoever wants to enter in; an errant blast might awaken Boo early, which would be bad for them. So they open the hatch. Maybe Shin's holding out hope that Goku will take out Vegeta quickly and come help them with Dabra and Bobbidi, but the hatch being open doesn't mean that Shin and Gohan can't wreck shop on the ship anyway, in the hopes that it might get Boo up early. But they don't do that. Goku gives Gohan a senzu so he can replenish the stamina drained by his fight with Dabra earlier, and reminds him about the fight with Cell, how he should do that now if need be. Down they go, leaving Goku and Vegeta to their confrontation. All of the doors are open, so they can head straight down to the lowest level, where Dabra and Bobbidi are. Gohan will face Dabra, and Shin will take on the child of the being he killed, so many years ago. There's no time to waste, either; the longer they delay, the more time Boo has to get energy from the fight between Vegeta and Goku. Speaking of. Goku's plan is to go all-out from the beginning and get this over with quickly. Yeah, I'll believe that when I goddamn see it, you guys never do that. He powers up, and Vegeta applauds him in a metaphorical sense: he's stronger than Gohan, at least! But then he does his own power up. Both of them have that spiky electricity element to their auras now, which I only remember Gohan having before? Could be 100% wrong about that, but whatever! In any case, it may not be quite so simple to "end it quickly" as Goku was hoping. sheeeeeeeeeeeeesh vegeta good lord what has gotten into you? besides evil possession magic Vegeta doesn't wait for Goku to attack, but makes the first move and aims a kick at Goku's head, which he blocks. This is followed by a punch, which is also blocked, and then Goku tries his own punch that Vegeta blocks. Locked in close combat, hands occupied with stopping punches, neither really has an opportunity to get the upper hand until there's that good ol' headbutt i love so much! Goku, now bleeding from the forehead (a pretty unfortunate place to be bleeding from during a fight, because head wounds tend to bleed prolifically and blood in eyes in unpleasant and distracting), kicks Vegeta away forcefully; Vegeta sails out of the resulting cloud of dust almost immediately and lands a few feet from Goku. well at least they're having a good time Ch 459 (Countdown) Back in the bowels of the spaceship, no fighting has started yet. Bobbidi doesn't want to jeopardize the shell by allowing any combat to happen down here, so he'll teleport them all to the surface. And he does. For some unknown reason, he also teleports Boo's shell? Wasn't the whole point to keep it safe in the ship, away from fighting?? Or is it just that tremors to the ship might do something to it, and those might happen anyway? Or he might just want to keep an eye on it, make sure that if it does hatch, he's there to... do whatever needs to be done when that happens. He asks Dabra if he's sure that he can beat that Earthling. No problem whatsoever. Gohan, remembering his dad's words, seems conflicted. He's angry, but he "can't be the way [he] was then...". Bobbidi has some fun taunting Shin. the "daddy" well has been so thoroughly poisoned for me by this point that the only response i can make to this is to * shudder * His taunting is interrupted some frantic beeping from the pedestal that the shell is on. It can't be? Already? Bobbidi checks the gauge. 100%. Well fuck. How the hell could this have happened? well shit .... it's kind of hard to dispute any of this, but * pats shin comfortingly * it's okay, we all fuck up sometimes Blissfully unaware of any of this, Goku and Vegeta are still slugging it out. Trunks and Goten obviously notice their battle because the ki is just off the charts (enough so that apparently it's hard to even tell if it's their dads or not). They have no idea what's going on, but that's not going to stop them. On they go. Goku and Vegeta take a break. Both of them look like they've taken some bad hits.
(continued) aha, there it is. Vegeta hates that he fell to this level, but.... Goku asks him if he really just let this happen in order to get stronger. * sighs * oh vegeta All of that was just too much. He had to become evil again. And now, thanks to Bobbidi's spell, he finally feels powerful again. duuuuuuuuuuuuude you are brutal And back at the spaceship, the shell seems to be preparing to open.
I appreciated it! I couldn't remember when it happened at all, although I had some vague recollection of him explaining at some point. Apparently my memory for a lot of this is pretty shit! Like, I thought it took quite a bit longer for the energy gauge to get up to full... although that could also be attributed to differences between anime and manga. I have to say I liked that last Vegeta scene better in the anime, though. Oh well.
Ch 460 the anime version of that fuckin' destroyed me (The Djinn Awakens?!/Majin Boo Appears?!) Boo getting awakened seems to involve a lot of steam. Reminds me of the quick-release on my pressure cooker. pictured above: my kitchen after i use the instant pot Shin decides it's high time to split. This is a bad scene, and they don't need to wait around to actually see Boo emerge. It's useless to stay: they'll just get killed. Neither of them can defeat Boo. No one can. Bobbidi is beside himself with excitement, waiting to see exactly what this creature his father created is. Gohan decides he can't just turn tail and run. Besides, if Boo's already at max power, then he might as well give something a shot, right? He powers up and fires a sudden beam at the shell, which forces Dabra to grab Bobbidi and leap out of the way. The beam hits the shell... and doesn't seem to do much, until Gohan uses even more force, and bounces it right off of its pedestal. It falls to the ground a dozen or so feet from its original spot and rolls to a stop. Then it splits open, rather like a very large horse chestnut shell. hmmm. anticlimactic everyone got all worked up for nothing. how embarrassing! despite having said what i said above, my usual stance still stands: let's maybe roll back that confidence just a touch because we sure as hell don't really know what's going on with any of this process Dabra tries to comfort Bobbidi. Oh well, no Boo; the great King of the Demon Plane, Dabra, is still here! Plus there's Vegeta (sort of). They can still make a go of it. Bobbidi is not mollified at all by this, but Shin's mood has taken a huge upswing. If they leave Goku and Vegeta to sort each other out, and if Gohan can take care of Dabra, Shin can deal with Bobbidi and they'll have solved everything. No more threat to the universe! Gohan, looking very troubled, disagrees. this is a serious moment but look how cute shin is. so small. such gigantic sleeves and ears Gohan looks upwards, at all that steam that was gushing out of the shell earlier, which hasn't dissipated, but begun to coalesce in the air above them. SCREENTONE! maaaan. that doesn't happen often, which is something i really like, and it also makes the times where it is stand out that much more The smoke finally condenses into a solid form. What form could possibly encompass the terror and devastation that apparently this Boo can bring? What will the face of boundless, infinite destructive power look like? What does the -- . . .
i want to read more tonight but i can't do a full post because i have to go to bed so have a preview of the next chapter because it's making me laugh so much eta to clarify, I did not read anything beyond the first page of the chapter. i know no one cares but me but i still felt the need to make it clear that i'm only cheating a little eta 2x i read two pages. i'm so sorry.
