This is part of what I love about Tex/Church from red vs. blue - they are Canon Het Couple with bicker-y, vitriolic, sometimes physically violent relationship, and that is treated as fucked up and unhealthy both by the story and by other characters. And I do view them as destined soulmates but definitely not in a "healthy romantic relationship" kind of way lol
Yeah, that's most of my problem. I'm primarily a comics fan, and it's not necessarily easy or effective to filter for that. It feels like several small fandoms trying to operate under the same name as an enormous fandom. I have a variety of Feelings about relationships in canon. In fic I'm not all that picky. There are things I'm more or less interested in reading. With that particular ship, less interest has developed into increasingly crabby aversion because it's so inescapable. I just wanna see more of all the characters without having to always be peering around those two macking. And I'm also suffering from severe Wolverine fatigue. So I'm pretty much screwed.
If you didn't make past the first 5 seasons before, try starting at season 6 (and then maybe going back for the rest later if you're a completionist like me, lol). It starts improving dramatically at that point. I mean, I loved seasons 1-5, but they are kind of early-2000s-internet-humor-created-by-men so ymmv for sure.

I like some of the comics, I also like the movies, but I think the only movie thing I really ship is Iceman/Rogue.....mmmmmmmaybe Kitty/Rogue if they interacted more would be a thing I'd like? but yeah, that's kind of it. I think I made it to season 3 before deciding I was done, so I may as well try starting from season 6!

I also like the movies. There are several I haven't seen because theaters are expensive and so are library fines. (I tried to reply regarding shipping, but it got really complicated in my head and I ended up lying on my bed for an hour browsing the internet on my phone until a well-timed youtube notification finally reminded me the world exists. Dammit, brain.)
I have seen most of them thanks to pirating I'm a bad person and I'm sorry but I haven't seen the latest one, X-Men: Apocalypse. (and it's cool! I get that.)

Maybe if I catch up with all the movies I will have movie-verse based ships compatible with written discussion, or at least more grist for this thread. (I don't have any high horse in the copyright race, I just have multiple strong conflicting interests and a low tolerance for doublethink. Easier to avoid the issue entirely than risk The Uncertainty Zone.)
makes sense! I just don't care as long as the company's a relatively large one and not solely a music artist. like, I try and make a point of not pirating music (ironic, I think, since that's what most people pirate) and not pirating things I know come from small companies and such. those things I do my best to save up for and buy, and just not have it until I can afford it. but bigger companies that aren't music industry are free game as far as I'm concerned.
Tex/Church is fucking life I swear to god. It's one of my favorite dynamics (yes I do love the constantly bickering couple dynamic A LOT, especially with het shit) and it's done nicely? Because as said it is treated as not the healthiest fucking thing. Oh. Right Solas/ELF INQ exists. Well I hate that just on the principle of fucking hating Solas AND ALL THAT HIS EXISTENCE MEANS. A living Solas is a bad Solas. An existing Solas is a bad Solas.
Hey, speaking of f!Inquis ships-- I hate Cullen/f!Inquis. I hate Solas/f!Inquis. I hate them not because of their particular flaws (though those are many and varied from "uwu Solas is right and my barely pubescent elf will show him twoo luv" to "addiction who? no, Cullen is cured with the power of vagina") but because god for fucking bid I try and find a SINGLE DORIBULL FIC that actually focuses on Dorian and Bull. Who would want that when they can have Sassy Gay Friend and Funny Sexy Sex Instructor existing to exposit at the shy sad mage Inquisitor who desperately needs to get laid and only has her Gayest Friends to rely on for five paragraphs in chapter fucking three. (And I hate this because I have het Solas and Cullen fics I do like, but fucking christ if I have to wade through another three hundred pages of mediocre Solavellan just to find the one fucking Doribull fic that actually features Doribull I will scream, endlessly, forever.)
I feel this so very hard. And like... there are ways to write a ship I see pitch as something flush while keeping it believable. If you leave the characters' personalities intact and at least keep shades of the way they actually interact, it might be flushed loving, but it'll be flushed with flavor. But that seems to happen so rarely! If people don't want to write a hateship as a hateship, so few of them seem to find any middle ground between the original dynamic and just remaking the couple into a picture-perfect, made-in-heaven romantic duo. The characters just start suddenly mooning over each other and start acting like they've been plucked straight out of a twee romance novel, or one of the more soulless bodice rippers. Because transformers is apparently the only thing I can think of these days, I adore pitch optimus/starscream, and that ship period is not the most common. I've only found one or two stories I like that feel properly pitch, but I'd killlllll for more of these two so I'll give the fluff a chance. There are stories like Delicacy where these two are sweet on each other, but Starscream is still prickly and shrill and demanding and attention-seeking, and it's still not quite the flavor of ship I wanted, but it works. Too bad so many other flushed romance writers never got the memo and erased Starscream's entire personality to make the romance flow easier :') (this goes for a lot of starscream shipping period, t b h)
The fact that so many people who write fic for Starscream remove all his sharp edges makes me so goddamn sad. Like, what is even the point? If you want a shy, sad, teary-eyed doll, there's... admittedly not many characters to do that with, but Starscream is next to Arcee in at the bottom of the list. It just doesn't work with them.
