I believe congratulations are in order, for if we disregard the factual circumstances in favour of a more poetic retelling, you are now officially an abomination of science. Do pardon me if I do not have a complimentary plaque for you just now, such things take a little bit of time.

I can never decide how much guilt is enough; always either too much or not enough.

Sometimes people do terrible things because they're greedy and selfish. When we left Atlantis the other clans scattered, but we tried to settle in another dimension, on an already inhabited world. They were less developed than we and greatly disapproved of our attempt to take over their home. The Aerihman elders at the time decided getting rid of them was worth having a home. The other clans disagreed, and nearly joined back together to threaten us into leaving. So we did, and we seethed, and we hated, because we wanted a home but all Atlanteans are arrogant at the best of times and we wanted a home worthy of us.

And then the Rifts came and returned magic to Earth, and with it the homeland we sank. The other clans still consider it a mark of our shame for what we did to the world in the first place, but what better a home than the one we once built? The Splugorth got there first, turned it into one of their interdimensional markets, but we've been living in the shadows since the first incident. We hid our faces under masks and our bodies under armor and became the Sunaj, the monstrous hand of the Splugorth known for our assassins. We'll betray them one day, of course; working for them is just biding our time.

Now that we're hidden and settled we've been fighting the other clans in secret. They have forgiven and forgotten the initial incident that we never did. Any one of us can- and I have- walk up to one in their own home and slit their throat without them ever realizing. We weaponize this; calling them for aid in battle and leaving them to die, inviting them into our homes for sanctuary and either staging an attack or simply killing them, using the secrets they share so willingly and handing them off to old enemies craving revenge. When one clan began to suspect us Lord Aerihza gathered 1,300 soldiers, all volunteers to give their lives in a mock battle against an old enemy we had allied with. He knew that the other clans would refuse to believe he would let loyal soldiers walk inescapably into the jaws of death, and now we are above suspicion and beyond redemption.

 

You're here with us now. Turn your back on them. Well, not where they can see you--that'd be suicidal--but you know what I mean.
