Tons of reasons, honestly. I mean, I wouldn't choose to be a... servant. Not even for anyone I liked as much as you like those Heterodynes. I'd wanna be their equal in status, not call them master. And well, not everyone is a fighter, either, not everyone would like the job - even if it didn't involve having masters. Even if they could get a laser eye out of it. And some people, well, some people, just don't care about being honoured like that. They don't have the need for that kinda approval.

And apparently, if you're correct about all of this, anyone with one of those reasons to not want it wouldn't become one. But... I dunno if I can count on the world being that fair.
