...Use best judgement? Not all impulses are safe, but if personal guidelines are held in mind then usually path is somewhat clearer? If personal protocol is "do not physically hurt crewmate" and Mala whispers "punch crewmate in the face, he really needs it"... decision must be made, yes? Should trust own judgement, then, and decide which predicted outcome is more personally acceptable.

Cannot set your protocols for you, only offer personal experience, but... from two million years' experience, weighing each situation on its own far easier than expecting every decision over entire lifespan to match neatly with current expectations. Grey areas exist! Can't plan for everything! =]

Do you want to hurt people?

The only real problem for most decent people is understanding how to deal with conflicting wants. Sometimes you have to go to work when you'd rather sleep because you need the money or other people are depending on you, but it's not like you get off on the idea of eviscerating people.

And of course there are times when you want to do something involving another person and they don't want to do it, so you have to respect them. But otherwise?

Most of the time when people get hurt it's because somebody made a mistake, not because the other person wanted to hurt them. When that's not the case, it's bad, of course, but...

Well, no. I don't wanna hurt people. But if I care too much about getting what I want, I might anyway. Which I guess does fit with what you said about mistakes, yeah.

 

I think that you can avoid that by simply remembering that you can do what you want, but so can everyone else, so if you want to do something and someone else doesn't want to... you can't make them. You can find someone else to play with or you can decide to wait to do whatever it is until the other person wants to do it too, but making people do things that they don't want to do is generally not an option except for things like giving kits shots, which they don't want because they are too little to understand that getting diseases will be even more unpleasant.

 

Yeah, I get that. That makes sense. But there's also the issue of, like, limited resources and stuff... Which probably aren't too limited, considering that I can GONG things up if I wanna, but yeah... if I decide to take a long shower or eat a lot of food, that means other people can't access it at that moment or anymore. Or if I get really rich and other people end up poor as a result. That kind of thing.
