So. The work my team did ended up catching a lot of attention from... a lot of groups, to be honest, although Nortec was the primary concern. We came back to my clinic one day and opened the door to what honest-to-God looked like an explosion for about a second, before we realized that nothing was actually on fire. Someone decided that they'd rather start by threatening us with a door-triggered special-effects explosive, instead of actually setting off a bomb in Lockport. (Which is good. Even for Nortec, Ravenlock couldn't ignore that.)

Of course, Riki and Brick figured out how to reset and fine-tune the special effects equipment they left behind. So many jobs following that day involved some pretty epic and completely nonfatal distracting "explosions." It's still in the back of my ambulance, actually.

(When we didn't back off, they sent assassins next, but. Well. That didn't work out well for them either. We'd been dealing with assassination attempts and full-frontal attacks from gangs and minor corporations for a while.)

...every time I come here I end up buying something. Good thing this place doesn't actually draw on reality, I think my crewmate would be extremely displeased if he knew I'd blown all our resources on medical supplies and extraneous weapons systems again.

And they are fun. Honestly, the most fun I'd had in my life, if the regular fear of dying and everything weren't a factor.

 

People are afraid of dying? It still surprises me. I'm afraid of dishonor, or not fulfilling promises, of harm coming to others.

 

Lots of people are afraid of dying. I deal with those people pretty regularly.

"Honor" has... not been a good or healthy concept for me in the past, but I agree with you on a fear of failing people or letting friends or bystanders get hurt.

 

Sidestepping the earlier conversation, I've recently learned that, yes, my Jame raided Restormir. Which is a strange way to word it, but I suppose there isn't much other way to do it. I've also recently learned that you tossed Caineron out of a window. One of his men too.

Lyra seems very enamored with you regardless. Thankfully she lacks your apparent penchant for defenestration.

Which may solve the question of our relation. There's certainly enough odd time happenings lately.
