Just because you play at knowing what you're doing doesn't make your actions any less harmful. That is the angle I am getting at. Would it have made it any better to have people simpering over how they know you're not a disposable, you really are a person they swear, but here, they're going to enslave you anyways?

It's all well and good to claim that you're a monster so other people don't have to be, but have you ever considered that maybe the universe needs less monsters?

The response to monsters isn't becoming them. They win that way.

Pray tell, where was this cozy place away from the fighting? I would love to hear your theories about what I was doing while you burned Cybertron to the ground, and then the rest of the galaxy with it.

How many innocents do you kill to justify that? How do you determine which ones are 'monsters' and which ones aren't? If a cop kills twenty Syk users, isn't he just getting rid of the scum? If he kills a Syk dealer, isn't he saving lives and killing another monster?

Isn't he in the right when he kills people for being the wrong sort of people?

 

The second one is an interesting question, the first one... why would I care?
Ideals are a tricky thing, very beautiful to look at, but, ultimately, too unwieldy to be of use. So I went and rephrased the question, for myself.
Not, "What do I want", but "what do we need", and the answer went from "Peace" to "Order".
I kill the people who cross me and hurt those I consider mine. People fear me, and it keeps the peace.
Ideals get people killed, and order keeps them alive.
And I'll take my city living over it dying, yes?

It's a mystery but not I'm particularly in a hurry to uncover.
Alas we will have to continue disagreeing on why it's okay for you to be intimidating and threaten violence, but not for me. I suppose it's because you are taller than me. Or maybe the vehicular altmode?

 

That clarifies a lot for me, frankly. Do 'cross me' and 'hurt those I consider mine' mean the same thing? Or does someone who reneges on an agreement fall under a death sentence? If your city gets blown to bits from orbit because some idiot thought it would be a good idea to murder a diplomat, how does that factor into your survival equation?

I would love to. Waltzing or tango? Of course, there is the ever delightful contemporary, but we could always crump too.

 

It's the fact that I don't have a tendency to actually carry out death sentences, I imagine. Comical threats of nonfatal violence get brushed off, whereas actionable intents to murder are taken a tad more seriously.

 

"Hurt those I consider mine" is a proper subset of "cross me", the rest is a careful ladder of offenses that we have the law for - we didn't scrap using the Tyrest Accord to be lawless, but because it just doesn't cut it for multicultural hubs like Scelus. If I just went around killing people out of a clear sky, I wouldn't get anything done.
But it does pay to have a reputation to go through with the threats, even if I do try to be merciful and give people three chances. Judge Hum's suggestion, may they finally find rest one day, but it went a long way for the other Judges and me - Scelus almost polices herself.

For the diplomats, it depends, really, but it seems the idiots who would think that that's a good idea get removed from the dance floor early, so those with a smidgen of common sense have a bit more time to dance efficiently. On the other hand, diplomats are usually warned which corners to steer clear of without a local guard, and we have taken to gently but firmly reminding them should they forget, after the business with the dune walker and the tiny bio clockwork gizmos.
Orbital security is Rillyeneth's purview, however, and not mine. I dread the day her mortal shell fails, because we only might need to find a replacement.
